I never rip on games for being 'too simple' any more. It gets old. Each to their own. I sometimes enjoy playing games that involve no more than moving metal boxes around...I think that one was called 'Dawn of War'. Strange name, really.

And i found the game overall worth more then the ten bucks i payed for the entire package on a steam sale recently, sadly the multiplayer is dead so its hard to enjoy that even though the multiplayer is fun. I do not see how it got such a bad review from major sites, it was roughly 7/10 probably.
I've recently played through the game and I agree that it is decent. This, coming from another Duke Nukem fan and avid 90's gamer. As for why it is always 75% off, in the Air Force we also use the phrase 'Perception is Reality', where what people think is the truth outweighs the facts.
Perception from mainstream sites says the game sucks, for those who have never played the game themselves, they don't know that it is alright.

This game has 2 problems, 1 - the guns, with the exception of the shotgun and shrink ray, lack punch and the gunplay is poor. Shotty is nice and shrinking is fun, but thats it. Most of the weapons feel like pea shooters
3 - it has bad pacing. Puzzles, platforming, and shooting mix greatly together, if they are put in at the right times. There were some puzzles and platforming parts that were enjoyable, but most of them were quite out of place, and were a detriment to the game instead of helping
phil when you say at 18:00 i finish a game before scoring it, you do on most games BUT... 2 main ones in particular spring to mind. Dark Souls and Amy. You rated them but you didn't complete them because they got too hard. Thats exactly what your acusing ign and other rating medias about.

the points are not Valid. It okay not to like but put in Valid statements and don't make up Crap because it not another Call of Duty among other things. Thank you for the honest review, i agree 100%. I watched video after video and couldn't see how it got such bad reviews. I could understand if the gameplay was broken but its not. The game is fun and brings back great memories of Duke Nukem 3D. I hate puzzles but didn't mind them here because they was never over complicated. My favorite things had to be the interactive environments, monster truck, boss fights and yes the underwater level. All this kept the gameplay interesting, Hail to the King!

For some reason, I think the new DLC actually fixed some graphical issues on my console (I have the 360 version), even in the main campaign. The cigarette boxes are no longer super low res, nor are the posters on the wall. It's still not crystal clear resolution, but it's not horrible. The graphics are adequate.

I've seen a lot of reviews that say the game has "amazing storyline and gameplay" and they only say 1 bad thing about the game and because the game has 1 bad thing the game receives a failing score. Yes i can say it has amazing gameplay and storyline. I love the cursing, the duke attitude, I played duke 3d in the early 90's i loved it then and still love it now. I'm glad they didn't turn pg kiddie like most games today. They maintained their original duke style. But i agree it's not for everyone. If you haven't played these type of games in 90's you won't understand why people love today's duke even though mainstream media is slamming it.

The storyline is amazing not in the fact that it will win an Oscar for the script, but for the irreverent, politically incorrect humor, which it delivers in bucketloads. The gameplay has a lot of variety. There aren't many games that have normal shooting, underwater levels, shrunk down levels, driving, shrunk down driving, turret sequences, and (w/ DLC) low gravity levels all in one game. All these are usually in separate games.

They made it a 2 weapon limit because 3-D Realms actually designed a linear game. The actual design for Duke Nukem Forever WAS linear. So what would compliment linear gameplay more? Doom 2's nightmare mode isn't different. WOW, respawning enemies! That makes it soooo different. How exactly would playing DN3d help me tell if DNF is a shitty game? That's like saying, you won't be able to tell if Skyrim is good or not, unless you've played Oblivion. A game should be rated by itself, not by how good it's predecessor was compared to it. Plus, DN3d is only better than DNF, because it's a classic. If DN3d came out now, it would probably get a 3/10 too.
I don't see how the single player is buggy nor boring. I didn't see any bugs throughout the game, and I liked the set piece moments. Try bringing down a giant alien mother ship while it destroys everything around you, does that sound boring?

Totally agree with you on some points, but the game itself turned out to be very tedious and average-looking. Of course, it's not 3/10, but really it just wasn't that good. So all that bashing is understandable: where the original DN shined and stood out in almost every fasion, Forever kind of blends into the background with tons of other one-day shooters.
i own this game on pc love it to death but i disagree with the their are no graphical problems with it on pc...i had some screen tearing..and some texture popins but other than that it was good.

First of all Witcher 2 is game of much bigger caliber than Duke Nukem Forever.
Only fan of duke can give DNF score above 4/10 (5 or 5,5 after patched).

what DSP said about how people should review games is what "Judgement Day" that used to air on G4 used to do. and because of that, they got canceled (a NFS game and some other game got a bad review and the community got pissed).
I agree with everything you said about duke nukem. I neverp layed a duke nukem before and would still give this game a 6.5 to 7. On the witcher 2 I have to point out that the highs and lows of a game are not always weighed equally. Witcher 2 didnt explain its gameplay as well as it could have, and itemization/crafting was average to subpar. However the immersion, story, music and graphics were so above average that they simply made up for it.
The game is certainly not bad to the extent of a 3/10 score, but I still found it rather disappointing. Then again, it's really near impossible to ever live up to the hype DNF had after all these years. It's alright for a shooter, but otherwise, I wouldn't really sit down and play it again.

my dad traded it in he said he didn't like it cause it doesn't have all the weapons the old one did, but his idea of the old one was the Nintendo 64 which has stuff like explosive shotgun shells and SMGs and all sorts of other stuff he never played 3D and it pissed me off when he got rid of it, the only problem i had with the game is it has no replay value, which if the game has a horrible multiplayer and the single player doesn't have enough things to discover do i say it has no replay value
Fucking iPod just made me post the comment for no reason. Bad minigame controls, weird puzzles, Duke can only hold two weapons, console versions are unappealing, and textures take forever to load in sometimes, the multiplayer is garbage, and it is just frustrating at points.

Compare it to other games on all review websites that received the half of the maximum points: you will see that they are all utterly crap and that they would not even recommend this to people who like the genre. It's pretty much universally agreed. Average is a score like a 7 (depends on the review site). You should not confuse the review term "average" with the average of the lowest and highest possible score.

I think the whole story of how the development this game went down deserves a movie, it's fucking tragic and depressing, main character would obviously have to be director George Broussard, co-creater of Duke Nukem and the man behind the ambition that is/was Duke Nukem Forever.
I played this game on the Xbox 360. Really the only big difference is the load times are painful. So if you died, you'd have to wait a while to reload the checkpoint.

Before you mentioned that it was the Editor's job to balance the scores, are you sure in this case that it was not the Editor who artificially inflated what may have been a terrible score before the magazine was released? I think the Gameinformer guy, even though the game had many flaws, he overall thought the game was more than the sum of it's parts and the the good far outweighed the bad.
Screw X-play, DSP is the only reviewer I trust now. Because when Epic Mickey came out X-play gave it a 5/5, but it sucked. I should know, I payed for it and played it. Then DSP gave his review saying it sucked, but it was too late for me and my 40 bucks. This is why I only trust DSP. Screw X-play!
it was a bad game and everyone knew it. if gearbox wanted to release a good FPS, they could have (look at borderlands) but they decided to shovel out a really bad game with massagonistic non clever humor, a max of 3 enemies on screen at a time and really LAME platforming sections. its not old school. it you want old school play quake 2 or DNF 3D. Thank you for the honest review, i agree 100%. I watched video after video and couldn't see how it got such bad reviews. I could understand if the gameplay was broken but its not. The game is fun and brings back great memories of Duke Nukem 3D. I hate puzzles but didn't mind them here because they was never over complicated. My favorite things had to be the interactive environments, monster truck, boss fights and yes the underwater level. All this kept the gameplay interesting, Hail to the King!

For some reason, I think the new DLC actually fixed some graphical issues on my console (I have the 360 version), even in the main campaign. The cigarette boxes are no longer super low res, nor are the posters on the wall. It's still not crystal clear resolution, but it's not horrible. The graphics are adequate.

He's right in terms of reviews. Not only on Duke Nukem but about the media and how they review games. I've seen a lot of reviews that say the game has "amazing storyline and gameplay" and they only say 1 bad thing about the game and because the game has 1 bad thing the game receives a failing score. I don't understand how 1 bad thing even though they say it was amazing gives the game a failing score. Definately like Phil said, someone looking over the shoulder of the reviewer.

Yes i can say it has amazing gameplay and storyline. I love the cursing, the duke attitude, I played duke 3d in the early 90's i loved it then and still love it now. I'm glad they didn't turn pg kiddie like most games today. They maintained their original duke style. But i agree it's not for everyone. If you haven't played these type of games in 90's you won't understand why people love today's duke even though mainstream media is slamming it.

The storyline is amazing not in the fact that it will win an Oscar for the script, but for the irreverent, politically incorrect humor, which it delivers in bucketloads. The gameplay has a lot of variety. There aren't many games that have normal shooting, underwater levels, shrunk down levels, driving, shrunk down driving, turret sequences, and (w/ DLC) low gravity levels all in one game. All these are usually in separate games.

So...they put 2 weapons availability so that the game doesn't become too easy because they changed the ammo replenishing way and if you could carry 8 weapons then you could have too much of a good thing? Then why not remove the boxes and have it the same way that it was in DN3D? Do you think that people are not smart enough to use more than 2 weapons?

They made it a 2 weapon limit because 3-D Realms actually designed a linear game. The actual design for Duke Nukem Forever WAS linear. So what would compliment linear gameplay more? A bunch of weapons lying around in open space that you couldn't possibly miss because, you know, it's a linear game, or a two weapon limit?

@MrNeoshredder I don't disagree it was originally a 3D realms choice, perhaps because they thought it was easier to have few weapons since no keyboard on the consoles, or what you said, but it is still a bad choice (plenty of FPS with no such limit on the consoles) and not a good point in favour of the game no matter how I see it.

Doom 2 stands alone in its nightmare mode while other games hardest difficualty put more monsters with higher dmg and agressive AI, doom 2 nightmare mode offered all that in addition of constant respawn of monsters over and over with no end of respawning so you have no clue what you are talking about tard.

Doom 2's nightmare mode isn't different. WOW, respawning enemies! That makes it soooo different. How exactly would playing DN3d help me tell if DNF is a shitty game? That's like saying, you won't be able to tell if Skyrim is good or not, unless you've played Oblivion. A game should be rated by itself, not by how good it's predecessor was compared to it. Plus, DN3d is only better than DNF, because it's a classic. If DN3d came out now, it would probably get a 3/10 too.

Doom 3 kept those things that made doom 1,2 fun (chainsaw etc...) and also add something new.

If DNF is a good game then Indie Crystal Skull is also a good movie.

Totally agree with you on some points, but the game itself turned out to be very tedious and average-looking. Of course, it's not 3/10, but really it just wasn't that good. So all that bashing is understandable: where the original DN shined and stood out in almost every fasion, Forever kind of blends into the background with tons of other one-day shooters.

First of all Witcher 2 is game of much bigger caliber than Duke Nukem Forever.
Only fan of duke can give DNF score above 4/10 (5 or 5,5 after patched).
When I watched this, I got feeling that this guy defending DNF.
DNF was Full price, looked mediocre and quality of campaign was low.
If you count F-word that guy said it will say for itself how "professional" he is as reviewer. He is just angry because rest of the world didnt like game that he likes.
P.S. For me DNF is 4,5/10. I was fan of duke:(

His reviews make much more sense than any others I've ever heard or read, and yeah he admits being a Duke fan, but that didn't stop him from giving the game an almost average score. And if you're the kind of guy who says that "any game that has inferior graphics to this and that simply has bad graphics", then I'm not even going to waste my time with that issue.

I agree with everything you said about duke nukem. I neverp layed a duke nukem before and would still give this game a 6.5 to 7. On the witcher 2 I have to point out that the highs and lows of a game are not always weighed equally. Witcher 2 didnt explain its gameplay as well as it could have, and itemization/crafting was average to subpar. However the immersion, story, music and graphics were so above average that they simply made up for it.

The game is certainly not bad to the extent of a 3/10 score, but I still found it rather disappointing. Then again, it's really near impossible to ever live up to the hype DNF had after all these years. It's alright for a shooter, but otherwise, I wouldn't really sit down and play it again.

it's kinda not the reviewers fault i mean if the people don't pay much attention to the article then they are just stupid i mean if you're gonna read a review then don't just look at the point score you dumb fucks, but that's a mistake a lot of people make is just looking at the point score and saying oh its in the 6.5-9.5 range so it's gotta be awesome, believe me there are a lot of games that everybody else gave great reviews for that i thought sucked

my dad traded it in he said he didn't like it cause it doesn't have all the weapons the old one did, but his idea of the old one was the Nintendo 64 which has stuff like explosive shotgun shells and SMGs and all sorts of other stuff he never played 3D and it pissed me off when he got rid of it, the only problem i had with the game is it has no replay value, which if the game has a horrible multiplayer and the single player doesn't have enough things to discover do i say it has no replay value

Fucking iPod just made me post the comment for no reason. Bad minigame controls, weird puzzles, Duke can only hold two weapons, console versions are unappealing, and textures take forever to load in sometimes, the multiplayer is garbage, and it is just frustrating at points.

Fuck it, I'm subscribing too, I didn't like the demo much for PS3 but this guy knows what he's talking about. He's spot on about the development for DNE and he's spot on about so called "professional" reviewers, just look at Gamespot's review of inFamous 2, terrible review with unfair points.

@dudeguy1354 5 is not average. 5 is barely playable, it is half of the maximum. Compare it to other games on all review websites that received the half of the maximum points: you will see that they are all utterly crap and that they would not even recommend this to people who like the genre. It's pretty much universally agreed. Average is a score like a 7 (depends on the review site). You should not confuse the review term "average" with the average of the lowest and highest possible score.

Lol, that's because other "reviewers"(and I use that term loosely, because they're all terrible) are horrible at scoring games. Even under the score IGN gave Duke Nukem, 5.5, it says "Average".

I think the whole story of how the development this game went down deserves a movie, it's fucking tragic and depressing, main character would obviously have to be director George Broussard, co-creater of Duke Nukem and the man behind the ambition that is/was Duke Nukem Forever.

I played this game on the Xbox 360. Really the only big difference is the load times are painful. So if you died, you'd have to wait a while to reload the checkpoint.

yeah phil is and always has been the guy that i looked up for reviews and commentary playthroughs and i love them all and that being said i played duke nukem forever on ps3 and i to am a fan boy of duke even on console i thought it to be a 7,7.5,8 the graphics looked great compared to a lot of games. there were some issues with gameplay which was some bosses were to hard but it is a hardcore game released for 2011 all i know is it has a little bit of everything a game should have thats why i

ok, today is my second time watching your video, and I gotta say, fuck it, subscribed, I'm not listening anymore to the mainstream media, you're the man I'm gonna go to and that I'm gonna trust to see if a game is any good, although the personal preference is what really counts For example, I still remember when they trashed Devil May Cry 2, but hell, I thought it was an amazing, fun, stylish game, flaws sure, but I loved it for what it was, thanks a lot for your vids:)

Before you mentioned that it was the Editor's job to balance the scores, are you sure in this case that it was not the Editor who artificially inflated what may have been a terrible score before the magazine was released? What if the reviewer gave the game a 6 or 7 and the editor made it a 9? And what did you say about hand drawn or 8-bit graphics? How dare you sir, do you know how beautiful hand drawn games are? I can understand 8-bit, but hand drawn? What hand drawn games have you seen?

Screw X-play, DSP is the only reviewer I trust now. Because when Epic Mickey came out X-play gave it a 5/5, but it sucked. I should know, I payed for it and played it. Then DSP gave his review saying it sucked, but it was too late for me and my 40 bucks. This is why I only trust DSP. Screw X-play!

it was a bad game and everyone knew it. if gearbox wanted to release a good FPS, they could have (look at borderlands) but they decided to shovel out a really bad game with massagonistic non clever humor, a max of 3 enemies on screen at a time and really LAME platforming sections. its not old school. it you want old school play quake 2 or DNF 3D. On the other hand I cant really fault phil though, everyones a fanboy for something and determined to stick by it no matter what out of faith
