Its called the "tilt-shift" technique. You can either fake it or get a lens to do this. It basically blurs the top and bottom area of the frame to give it that depth of field on a macro scale look. It looks like a miniature model of a place, but its actually real life. (ive personally been there)

ooooooh. that's how it's done. i was saying in another comment about how i had no idea what equipment he was using, is it expensive? it looks amazing and i could think of sooo many good places he should go to around the world and so many other ways this technique could be used.

to get any professional equipment for cameras is going to be a lil pricy for sure. Its a special lens that creates the effect, so thats probably a few hundred. Would be really cool to have though.

You can also fake the effect in a post production program like after effects or photoshop.
