I live in woodburn. your right its a terrible mall. it clogs traffic to a stand still and has no good stores. i hardly go there and its full of people that poor from beaverton.
@TheTHESTOOGE I know. A friend who worked at the mall put it this way: "There are no discounts here. People don't find out until they get to this mall. But once they get here, you know, who cares? 'We're in the mall, so let's shop!'" It's really a joke. And I HATE the traffic pile up!
This footage shows that it is bad here in Oregon. Now you see more and more panhandlers off of EVERY exit anymore because there are NO JOBS. I have been out of work a year with NO propspects and people do not call me at all about jobs. This problem will get worse and worse until companies start giving a damn and hire people rather than lay off thousands of thousands and move overseas for lower wages. I know it happened to me and cannot find a job.
Dude, there are thousands of malls on the west coast and most people have never even heard of the woodburn outlet mall. Traffic in Woodburn is light compared to major cities. As for the panhandler, I don't see how you can compare him to service workers. I see him there EVERYTIME I take that exit, and while I realize that making a living wage is nearly impossible for the poor in this country, maybe he should try getting a job like the rest of us. Your composition is nearly insignificant.
Whether "most people" have or have not heard of this mall is not the point. The mall represents a lot that is wrong with this country. I recently read a slogan that goes, "America is not at war. The Marines are at war. America is at the mall." A great deal of effort is put into making sure that American citizens do not pay attention to real issues but instead pay attention to trivial consumerism.
As for the panhandler ... again, you missed the point entirely. It matters nothing whether you see him every day. What matters is that in this video he serves as a symbol of poverty, which is what most Woodburn Company Store employees live in -- despite the fact that they are employed. People employed at the mall are in the same boat as the panhandler -- poverty.
@DoJapan theres like no jobs in woodburn, and they keep building more houseing. more people live in woodburn then there are availible jobs. plus the smuckers factory and woodburn fertilizer down sized, how do you know that this guy hasent been layed off?
I remember that bum he's gone now : )
