What he did is indeed hacking, but it is the lowest level of hacking by using scripts. The person who do such stuff is called script kiddie, noobest level of hacking. Hackers always safe themselves but their tracking is possible even if they are using anonymous IP. The thing that sucks about joomla is that u change the core code base for customization when u update all your changes are overwritten, and this is the reason why people don't update. I RECOMMEND DRUPAL, because the way it is written if you follow the coding conventions SQL INJECTION and XSS - CROSS SITE SCRIPTING ATTACKS, are IMPOSSIBLE, also updating the codebase keeps ur changes, throttle stops DDOS ATTACKS.
