  • Hey! Ok so i have this problem, i've been playing base for quite some time now and i started learning slaping and poping everythin is good untill i need to slap other than the E string. My thumb hits the uper string to, i was trying to play in other ways but i still couldnt stop touching the other strings :/ Any advice?

  • @Bangpoppop Of course! Take a look at the video above, and at about 1:40, a link in the bottom right of the video appears saying "Need your slap to be more precise?" That's the answer you are looking for :)

  • the last second is the best

  • Damn this man is good.

  • Very flea-esque slap technique. Ever considered thumping instead? The sound just isn't very resonant, but it might just be your bass

  • Thanks for the sub and I subbed back. Wow, I need to pick my guitar back up; just got so much going on right now! I'll keep watching!

  • wow you are great but your fat finger touch the bast mast lol but you'r cool

  • Nice riff. I like it.

  • are you kidding me!? :O

I lost my Jaw at the end of this video

    ..........please help me find it

  • I am learning bass because of you, so thank you very much!

  • excellent thump tutorial - the angles slowmo are indispensable. Thanks for helping us, Mr. FUNK!!

  • Wow,...this was extremely easy to follow. 2 great camera angles. First show pace of the note fretting and slap bass( pretty much fretting like a regular guitar and second cam view shows exactly where the inside thumb is hitting on which string especially the thin G string being sustained. No plucking the string, just thumb. Very is, Just practice now. Thankyou 4 the lesson.

  • just started to learn how to slap. it seems so hard not to hit the other stings and could you recommend to me a practice for slapping the bass to get good at it. thanks. and your slapping is funky dude.

  • Hello! ^^ I'm sorta new to the whole buying a bass thing, and I don't know how to play one at all >.>" so I was wondering what a good bass is for me. preferably one that's not very heavy. It doesn't have to be a begginer one, I just want an awesome first bass. Thanks in advance! ^^

  • fuck i get so pissed when i try slapping!@@!#!31221213212132313213232

  • your a great bassist bro ... on of the few bassist ... can i ask you about something?? cause i am finding a nice guitar for slapping.. What bass guitar should i buy?? and the Cheapest bass guitar cause i am new to bass guitars but i play bass guitar i just don't know what bass guitar sounds best when it comes to slapping .. Thank you in advance waiting for your reply ... keep up the good work .. keep makin good music \m/

  • @FieryAngelSpit That's always a difficult question to answer, as we all have different preferences, and like different tones. My advice to you would be to go into your nearest music store, and try out as many basses as you can. One will jump out at you. Make sure you don't play too many out of your budget though, because you might want it badly! Oh, and Ibanez do some great low prices basses...

  • @Dmanlamius76 Great video lesson. I totally agree with you. Interested in a new bass guitar ask the people working at the store and say your new to bass guitars, can I play some that way they can direct you on what your looking for. Plus when you play a few guitars, the one you see your playing the longest is the one that may sound the best to you, and/or what your most comfortable with etc.

  • @FieryAngelSpit I play on Washburn Force ABT, that bass is great for slap, pop, tap and cube play.

  • wow ... ushare it with my freinds ..hehehe i like

  • i need a tab pls i cant find it

  • @tazyo202 yeah its hard to see with this video where hes actually hitting with his left hand

  • very cool, thanks

  • hey bro whats the best but cheap bass amp that makes bass slapping sound better? thanks nice exercise btw

  • @ikilluall2000 Check out the Roland cube amp series :)

  • best lesson i've ever watch! ;) keep up the good work!

  • @baburjabal Lmao

  • neither this video or your site loads for me. get a clue. on your site all i see are links that don't do anything but change color when clicked. using firefox 4 oh on xp pro, flash sucks, just make a real web site already. lame.

  • @baburjabal Glad it doesn't work for you. Bye.

  • @Dmanlamius76 The video should work, but the website's lay-out does appear to be playing up; not sure whether that's firefox 4 or the site not liking wide screens. Instead of giving rude comments you might use this feedback to improve, despite the original shitty comment that guy posted. Nice lick btw!

  • @MuseMatt If he'd been polite, I would have pointed out that there is a duplicate HTML site (the blog) that will run fine in any browser, abd a forum where the lessons are also hosted, but he wasn't. I don't want people like that learning from me, simple as that. I know all about the site issues. They are temporary. He can't see these messages, btw. He's blocked.

  • @Dmanlamius76 Mm I seem to have clicked the blog site which has the 'wrong' lay-out, the flash site works fine and looks good! Indeed a bit unsuitable for lower internet speeds but hey, everything's going faster nowadays right?

  • @MuseMatt Ah, thats worrying, He meant the flash site! Thanks for mentioning it, Matt. I will take a look :)

  • Nice groove man !

  • Why does your thumb point downwards when u slap?

  • @IronMaidenGuitarRs94 Blame Flea...

  • @Dmanlamius76 isnt it just straight up bad technique to play like that...?

  • @turtleguy910456686 Nope, not at all. It's just a different way. Larry Graham made no specifications when he invented Slap and pop. I remember reading a great interview with him about it.

  • @Dmanlamius76 haha well of the 5 bass teachers ive had everyone has agreed that you can play more cleanly, quickly and get a "better" sound playing with your thumb parrallel

  • @turtleguy910456686 They probably say that, just because they play like that. All 5 of them need to look at themselves as teachers if they sincerely think you get a "better" sound. That is very naive. There are plenty of top quality players that play with their thumb down. It's personal preference. The thumb is a tool to hit the string that produced the sound. The slap sound is the same, irregardless. I can play both ways, and notice no difference between the two.

  • @Dmanlamius76 Don't mean to be rude, btw. Just my opinion, and preference.

  • @Dmanlamius76 haha its fine, but personally i find a big difference in sound but perhaps its just because i cant slap with my thumb up for shit. i guess its just that the people who are often seen as the "best" slap bassists (larry graham, marcus miller, louis johnson, victor wooten and stanley clarke) all slap like that :)

  • @turtleguy910456686 I do like to slap with my thumb up in certain situations. Thumping, for example. It's nice to knock the thumb through the note and bring it back through with percussion. It also gives you slightly easier access to come back with the fingers. But I can get an identical sound slapping in both places. That could be because I've been doing it for over 18 years though! Slapping hand down also gives me easier access to downstrokes, which I use a lot with chords etc :)

  • @turtleguy910456686 I have the same issue. I learned to slap with my thumb down and it sounds better (to me at least) but it makes double thumping difficult. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one haha

  • lmao i got a blister on my thumb from hitting the strings too much...

  • hey where do u get your drum tracks at

  • @rainmakereric Sorry for late response, dude. Go to my site: Dmanlamius . com and click on "timing".

  • that's really nice man :)

  • any TABS ??

    any TABS ??

  • The slow mo's in these videos are pretty damn epic! best groove face ever

  • i was feelin that, and i thank you

  • your really good dude how long have you been playing

  • @scott123dillon Thanks, Scott! About 17 years now :)

  • @Dmanlamius76 holy crap

  • @scott123dillon my names scott :D

  • @teracite Lol...listen...

  • @teracite Who cares if you play at your best at that hand posisition, i wouldn't reccomend to play in a different way

  • awesome but i think it should have done it slower then got faster , rather than the other way round , if you get my meaning

  • hi dmanlamius can you plz each me the ghost note am beging to give up

  • @theREALrap You just slap with your fingers muting the strings- holding them but not fretting them

  • Keep up the good work! You inspire me to NOT GIVE UP ON MY FUCKIN' BASS

  • gracias!!

  • Wheres the best place to get the drums and rhythm tracks to practice with??? Love these videos !! Thanks for posting!!

  • These lessons are very good. I feel a lot better with salpping! Thanks a lot!

By the way, where do you get the percussion tracks? I would like some

  • thanks for slowing it down in the vid, it helped me figure it out a lot easier ^o^, really helped my slapping as well

  • peace:-)

  • Quick question I have bad eye sight as well as being a beginner to bass but are you hitting a muted thump? or an open after 4-5 on the D? Thanks ! I feel I am getting a great deal better with your videos :) Thumb Up!

  • You might be the greatest bass teacher EVER! Thank you so much for all your vids.

  • :D n1c3 :D

  • Thanks for the slow mo, really helps

  • How hard are you hitting it?! O_o It looks so casual.

  • Oh and in the beginning when you did it all fast, did you just slap or did you also pop?

  • Comment removed

  • Hey I love it!

The link you have really helps out even more!

    Dont give up dude !

Cheer from Quebec , Canada !

  • all i have to say is.. This lesson is diffrent from the rest :O. New hair style too :P

  • hey Dmnalamius , ur a really cool irish style dude

  • Ha Ha, thanks man. Thats probably because my family are all from Ireland. Apart from me, who was born here in England!

  • nice hair cut

  • Lol, hair cut? I haven't had a proper haircut since I was 15. Grow long, shave. Grow long, shave. Thats why in all my vids, its always at different lengths.....:)

  • ok then, style

  • Do you have long hair? If not, here is the equation: Short hair = looks good. Long hair = looks good. The year and a half in-between long hair and short hair = looks like you have a haystack for a head.

  • that's exactly right, and i'm in the haystack scenario right now. girls i'm not this haggard i swear!!

  • No freakin kidding, just wait till I get some strings and start postin vids, you can see my bad nonhaircut.

  • You'll be happy to know that the next videos will feature D'man in a hat. Just thought i'd give you a heads up.

  • Great job Dmanlamius!! this is rly convenient, and rly short lesson. will defenetly try tihs out.

i see u've started to make lessons much shorter and more compact something like MarloweDK's lessons. thats rly good. good job! cant wait to see more of ur lessons. i like ur style, i hope u will learn us more exercises :)

  • Very cool! Thanks for this. I'm trying to build some slap & pop chops and this will help immensely.

  • Wow! Thats really cool riff and nice thing to change camera angle too. Have to start learning this one. =D

  • thz dman ive been looking forward to these

  • Nice one Dman! Shall be learning this out very soon... :D

  • I like the second one cause it can be played fast or slow and still sound good

  • Cool riff, thanks for video! How you did this lesson makes me think of MarloweDK's lessons. I while ago I saw you are on his site, thats pretty cool :D

  • Yea, the way im going to do these exercise lessons will be very similar to the way he does his! Only because I don't have the time to explain things at thye moment. This works out nice, because I can record, upload, post. It means I can upload a lot more content, which is always a good thing! :D I'm in the "second era" of my lessons...

  • Thats cool man, more content from you is always good!

  • oopsies i meant off TO practice :D

  • killer riff btw :]
