The charity gig is something that Roger can put on every year. If he got 30 celebrity 'friends' to have a whip round he wouldn't make as much and they certainly wouldn't (and shouldn't have to) do it twice. How much do you give to charity?

You do realise you are talking about people whose personal fortunes are in the hundreds of millions don't you? These guys could each give away a million and they would not miss it, that would be more than any charity gig would make AND they could do that every year!

The whole notion of charity shouldn't even exist as it perpetuates government underfunding of these services...I'm sure most artists do benefit gigs for noble reasons but its also seen as great PR and exposure for some...

A lot of them already donate thousands if not millions of dollars to charities they just don't go about publicising it all over the media. The charity gigs are good because apart from the actual money it raises public awareness and brings attention to areas that need help. Charities are always underfunded by Govt's regardless and that's why so many organise thier own fundraising activities.
