If you're just drawing in notes on the stave (in Sonar) you don't need a MIDI device do you? I'm not trying to record, I'm just messing around trying to write stuff but on the Preferences > External Control bit in Reason it says No MIDI Input on the menu

I'm trying to rewire Reason 3 into Sonar 7 (producer edition). I have a problem, which is, i record something with Addcitive Drums and when i try to record something with Reason, it tells me that the midi device is already in use by another application. i shut down the input of AD and reset Reason to no effect. Please somebody help!

Sup man, how are you running all this on a MAC platform? Are you using bootcamp or Parallel. I know that Reason is also made for MAC. But with SONAR, as far as I know, it's only available on PC.

for some reason i cant play anything from my keyboard when i try the rewire... Its plugged in with the USB port.. is that my problem?

if it works in reason stand alone.. it's to do with your setup.. get it to work in the other host? if it's e.g. sonar.. works fine here.. perhaps look at the rewire guide on the props website.. it goes thru all the things.. and all the major DAWS

Hey Caleb. in this video, do you have you keyboard plugged into your interface's MIDI inputs? Or do you plug the keyboard into a USB port on your PC.

I cant remember. I've done both but get better results when I use midi cables and an interface.

Did you install drivers for your midi device? you dont need an audio interface to record midi.

Hey i can rewire fine.. but when i trigger a redrum channel it plays it twice with a bit of a delay.. kinda sounds like the flam effect (and no its not activated)

what am i doing wrong?

edub, the same thing happens to me as well. mine sounds like a flange is on it. did u ever find out how to correct that?

Deselect the instrument in reason because reason will play the notes and sonar at the same time which makes it sound funny.

hey j....here is an excellent resource that i followed and had no problems.....follow it to the tee and you shouldn't go wrong....even though it's for the older versions, it should still help you out. thanks to caleb for an awesome tutorial for a newbie like me....

I'm in UK and I use Sonar, but I'm in a definite minority because mostly it's Cubase,Logic or Pro tools over here.I thought Sonar was like the king of packages over your side of the pond so your comment was interesting because it suggests otherwise?. Nice vid anyway.

I though he meant a lot of people don't use it - meaning using reason as a Sonar plugin. Sonar is actually pretty awesome. Friends an I have been using it since V3. V7 is out, and it's real solid.

yo i have a problem when i rewire reason 3.0 , for some reason after i make different midi channels and route em all to different instruments(nn-xt, nn19, subtractor), i select a channel to start recording, but when i play the keys it plays all the instruments combined, do you know how i can stop it from doing that.

Make sure that none of the tracks in reason are armed to record.

man i figured it out and that was exactly the problem, i appreciate it that you answered my question. but yo check this i have one more problem. i have 2 instruments loaded in Reason. 2 different midi tracks in sonar routed to the individual instruments in reason. after i record (lets just say a piano) into sonar on the first midi. when i try to record the second instrument in sonar the first piano track doesnt play right away.

(cont.) i use a 2 measure count-in on sonar, i noticed you leave 2 measures blank, but i dont do that. reason doesnt have a count-in metronome is that the problem. thanks again.

in sonar you go 2 option and then audio click on latency 2 your right and play with it you'll get the right settings..

In my Sonar it says buffer size. Change the buffer size and it should work.

i think its just a windows "mac" skin. the transport bar from sonar gives it away (red close box). but yeah........i was trippin' too!!!!
