Yes, a child may learn physics from a textbook and regurgitate the information on a test. But if he's never played with blocks as a toddler, how can he comprehend how those rules and laws work in real life?

The dumbest people I know are usually the ones with the most advanced degrees because College and most of the educational system is based on your ability to encode currently understood facts, dates and formula's and then recall them during a test. Picard was watching his futures end when Data smashed the coolant tanks around the warp core, THEN while Picard was scrambling for his life on some conduit, swinging above the coolant, and the Borg Queen latched on to his leg, again, Data pulled her under the skin vaporising coolant. She was already dead when Picard snapped what was left of her skeleton. Picard was just making sure. Then again, neither of them actually killed her cause she showed up in Voyager anyway.
