Dear Chalmers, Please be fair to Turks. They have been suffering from Three pro American Juntas. Now there are many problems they are having from aggressive pro US Turkish Army. Many journalists, professors, NGO activist killed during junta times. I mean many realy many thousands of innocent people killed by Army or their neo Nazi ally Grey Wolves, MHP or Ulku Ocaklari In fact Turkey is invaded by the US army bases now and they are Fed up with this condition.
@1968turkey: He is very fair to other coutries. He just takes the Turks as an example. He turns the actual situation around to show Americans shouldn't be surprised when other countries get hostile against Americans because Americans would react exactly the same way if other countries were stationed on American soil.
I heard the dollar is at it's lowest level ever against the more formidable Euro. And that oil is now at $104 a barrel. I guess it's better to have a million Euros than a million American dollars.
A brilliant man, thank you for posting this. Chalmers Johnson's "Sorrows of Empire" is one of the most fascinating non-fiction books I have ever read.
I like what this man is saying. Funny that he mentions Vancouver. I was thinking of Vancouver or Basel, Switzerland as places I might end up 10 years from now.
Johnson is doing anything but "oversimplifying". The problem with the American people (quite possibly as a result of their "education system") is that we have not learned to be discerning. We have not learned to be critical thinkers as a population. This is why our so-called democracy is anything but a democracy. I'm all for criticizing Johnson..but you must have a basis for your argument; I see none~ we are sheep. we trust the government. the government lies...big time lies...Wake up!
This is the first of hist bookls that I read and it was quite an eye-opener about the U.S. goverment.Militarism as taken over over our government and will evetually lead to its own demise, those of you who havent read the book should go to your local bookstore and buy it along with his other two books.
I could listen to him all day. I saw a programme called "why we fight" by the BBC and he was on it, he imediatly struck me as very well informed. When Ron Paul (search for him) brought up the blowback issue I became interested in Ron, because he was interested in Chalmers' topics, i.e. a friend of Chalmers is a friend of mine. Cheers.

Subject of the spy-thriller "The Forth Protocol". Was there such a treaty? It seems remarkably easy to violate as even neutron-emissions are readily supressed.
Further, it seems likely that all nuclear-capable nations have already placed nukes near adversarial targets.
Great interview. Just finished reading Blowback and plan to read The Sorrows of Empire next. His writing is very well researched and is required reading for anyone trying to understand the root causes of modern terrorism.
Yes, Blowback is another book By Chalmers Johnson. The trilogy consists of Blowback, The Sorrows of Empire, and Nemesis. I highly recommend all three.
Thank you for posting this video. I am considering getting Johnson's new book "Nemesis". I had been planning on getting "The Sorrows of Empire" for quite a while now as well but never got around to it.
"But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along...Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country." -Hermann Goring, Nazi leader
Yes he is fluent. We rarely see a sucessful political scientist who incoporates Eastern values into his philosophies. Chomsky and Gatlung offers spectrum, but the to be honest, I don't believe theories derived from Western hemisphere can be universally applied. Johnson is definitely THE CHOICE of teacher for Asian.
I've read Blowback and Sorrows of Empire. Unlike so many other political authors who spout mere opinions with an occasional factoid dropped here and there for superficial credibility, Johnson has a more academic approach to his research and writing, with everything backed by sources. My only gripe with his works is that they sometimes read like a cargo manifest, due to excessive detail. Anyway, I recommend his books for anyone who's looking to understand world politics.
The Iraqi people were & are, no threat to the American people. Iraq was for the longest time, a principle ally of the American government.
Then criminal Corporation United States TRAITORS figured it would by pay day for them, if they had a bunch of invasions & plunderings.
BANKERS are the enemy.

Excellent Video!
What was the 3rd thing that brought down the USSR?
1- Rigid Economic Ideology
2- Imperial Overstretch
3- ?
(I might venture corruption? but it would be interesting to see what Jonhson saw as the 3rd reason)

According to Pro Johnson the third thing was the inability to reform.
