  • WOW! a lot of ignorance here. Small block Cobra's, including the coupes are NOT all American. Much more than just the frame is British. America didn't race, an American team did. Shelby used parts from both countries to win the World Sports Car Championship. It was spilled gas during a pit stop that put the car out of The Daytona Continental 1964. Yes the diff pump being off made it worse. The car was withdrawn because of the pit fire.

  • The GT-40 was funded by Dearborn and built in England because of the wealth of racing car design experience, however its winning MK11 form was developed by Shelby and Kar Kraft in America, then the MK IV was soley developed in America with its Rockwell inspired honeycomb aluminum chassis and more efficent narrow cabin body. Full credit to all for a great success, also to John Wyer for winning in 68' and 69' with the MK1 with the Gurney Westlake heads on the 302 small block @ 440 HP.

  • @2007Colonial Your first sentence should read: The GT-40 was funded by Dearborn and built in England because of Eric Broadley and the Lola Mk6.

  • What did it sell for?

  • @no1dirtbag in 1966 they were worthless

  • @ cbkspa it was faster then Ferrari but it was a eror on communication and they didn't tell the driver about the full pump needed to be turn on so it met up the oil in the rear and when he stop at the pit stop they where fixing the problem but Mr Shelby told them to fill it up whit gas and the gas spill and because the heat of the car it cough on fire so Shelby called the race off for ford but it was winning the race by accouple laps before the incident

  • @Teara0731 Yes it was a Stewart-Warner fuel pump, but it was not pumping fuel. It was pumping diff oil to a cooler

  • @Teara0731 .... All that being said. The Ferrari GTO 64 Did win the 1964 World GT Championship. The Shely Cobra Daytona, did not.

  • @cbkspa hey it was faster then The Ferrari but i

  • I love the Shelby Cobra Daytona. But, Its funny how they fail to mention at that first Dayona race 1964 (where the Cobra Daytona was so fast) That Ferrari GTO's finished 1st. 2nd. and 3rd. and the Cobra Daytond broke down and didnt finnish.

  • All I know is at Daytona in 1965, the Ferrari 330 Qualified 1st. at 2 minutes .6 seconds. The fastest Cobra Daytona qualified 5th. at 2 minutes 7 seconds.

  • @cbkspa They were in two different classes.

  • Lol i think a cobra daytona was real at a german 1/4 but it was a replica but realy good without shelby emblems but with a original cobra club owners us decal lol

  • @SheIbyCobraDaytona .... Huh?

  • Love this car and shelby did a great job on this car and the cobra to raise the bar in motor racing of it's time, and to the American who claims that the gt40 was an American icon you should really should check your history as it was designed developed and built in the uk and is infact a uk icon :P

  • @daver32gtr I'm sure Shelby spent a lot of time in bars

  • why the great joy of beating...once upon a time the ferrari?! oh joy!oh joy! oh boy!! maybe because...yep, they are one of the greatest brand in automotive sport.

i just don´t get it, the nation that landed on the moon and they still can´t make (except this one,off course) a car...i wonder

  • @joedimaggio2 It wasn't a government effort. This was the best private enterprise could do.

  • congatulations!! one out of....657!!

  • Dear Santa...

  • give it to bob bondurant after all he deserves it

  • all right you might not agree but it think ford-shelby should combined with chevy and dodge to make a all american race car with HP/torque and style to beat the fuck out of Ferrari and all the other super cars AGAIN

  • @nimaxx38 They have.. Dodge Viper ACR.. Corvette ZR1.. Ford GT at its time.. All for way way less money then their competition

  • You guys have NO clue what I would do for this car. I would cut the throats of 1,000,000 innocent people If I knew at the end of it I would be able to obtain this car. I go to bed masturbating to the thought of a Shelby Daytona.

Okay im not that messed up,Don't take any of that seriously... But god dam I would love to own one!

  • AMERICA!!! F YEAH!!!

I watched this auction...the car didn't sell. I guess it's the wrong market to sell a 'crown jewel' of anything these days. These cars and the GT40's of that era SMOKED the Ferrari's for a few years straight overseas. The glory days...back when America had the pride to build something that could WIN.

  • @SurlyMcDuff America had VERY little to do with it. The smoke came from a lot of broken parts

  • A truly amazing car!

  • Factory Five Racing makes a replica that outperfoms this one, and you can do it for about .02% of the price!

  • @YouDonWantonKnow You know you could buy your wife a big fake diamond ring for a lot less than a real one, and almost every moron will think you're cool

  • there are really dumb people that pays 15 million for that

  • @MrPichiyou 15 million + 15 years or so = 15 million + ? million more, that don't sound too dumb of an investment to me

  • @MrPichiyou You can't believe ANYTHING at an auto auction, especially prices. They are designed to deceive.

  • it's a legend 15 million on your garage

  • This is fucking beyond RIDICULOUS. Fucking stupid rich cunts wasting a shitload of money for a fucking car!!!! I don't give a shit how "rare" it is. It's an OLD piece of shit. For 15 million I'd buy 2 houses, a Lamborghini and a Ferrari, and a hot blonde wife, and STILL have enough money left to put all my kids through college. Fucking stupid rich dumbasses....

  • @thi711 You're a fucking idiot, and obviously not a car person if you think a Shelby Daytona Coupe is just an old piece of shit car. It was one of the fastest cars of its time and made the US a notable force in FIA European racing. This car is where it all started. I guess you're not a fan of the GT40 much, either.

  • @thi711 Go watch vids of baby cats or butterflys... you sir are a dumb ass!!

  • @thi711 No idea.

And the point is, why buy a Ferrari, when you can have a car that crushed the Ferrari ? hahaha , you ass clown.

  • @thi711 You may be right about the 6 real Daytona coupes, but what you would do with the same amount of money is equally ridiculous

  • This car is NOT worth that much money!!! It is a good car dont get me wrong, but in my opinion way too overpriced!!

  • @Iwinulost Its not about what its worth its about what someone is willing to pay for it.

  • @Iwinulost Nobody paid that much

  • that car is bloody fast for a 4 gears car

  • @RenSs75 or 5 or 6

  • On that note, Carol Shelby claimed that this car was the hardest design that he finally built. " We worked for moths to keep the ass-end from scraping the road!" -Carol Shelby.

  • @Sarcasticscum the modification was to take a half inch off of the rear spoiler....and then the car handled so well it wiped everything on the track...during the mercum auction show they also ran the history of the daytona...just an amazing story of a bunch of california hotrodders building a car in 90 days that blew away the then top racecars...ferrarri

  • verry nice car

  • i was at the autcion where it sold in CA

    it sold for

    $7,250,000 US dollars.

  • how much did it sell for

  • Dude, it doesn't get more American than Pete Brock and Carroll Shelby. The only thing not 100% American is the frame because the rule book said that in order for it to race, it had to have the same frame as the convertible. They would have changed the frame if they could! So don't go saying that this car is anything but American!

  • @rmj134 I think the frame was modified...it had to be stretched to fit the 427SO and I'm sure strengthened because the ace frame would not have survived witht the 427 in it(lol)

  • @mrzip8 its a 289 not a 427!...

  • @mrzip8 Only one 427 coupe was built and it never won anything

  • @rmj134 Dude..........Girling brakes and Armstrong shocks..............British frame and suspension......................... Jaguar diff. What difference does it make. Shelby American was an American team using the best the world had to offer.

  • LMAO at how people call it American. Do these people not know where the AC Cobra comes from???

  • what does the ac have to do with the daytona coupe asshat? even the the roadsters were 95% redone. the ac stuff was crap. shelby widened the body, redone the chassis, suspension and added an american drivetrain so how is it not american dumbass.

  • oh 340 teddy, its quite simple with ac ace frame rails it immediatly makes the car european. I hate these iggnorant fuckers across the pond. Jeremy clarkson is the head of all these inaccurate facts. The british don't realize they make fun of americans for being stupid, they dont do there homework, they just believe everything he says

  • @2girls1cupfan01 RIGHT!!!! Wait, I'm an American. I saw much of this happen. It is an American team, using a machine with British roots and parts, developed in California by an indy car guy on a team run by a successful American driver

  • @304teddy Wow! Are you miss-informed. You are right about the 427, but that's not the subject here. Just keep putting the Hi-jackers on your El Camino, so the big tires will fit

  • @Jellyform It comes from Carroll Shelby and Ford and a highly modified and gutted AC Ace.

  • The AC Cobra is a British car. Every single road going Cobra built in the 1960's was built in the UK. FACT. Sure, many of them were modified elsewhere but that doesn't change the FACT that the AC Cobra is a British car.

This one isn't a highly modified and gutted Ace like you say, its a special one off chassis built by AC in the UK and then finished in the US. That makes it less British than most Cobras but it doest excuse the way everyone conveniently ignores the cars real heritage.

  • @Jellyform True, the cobra is a british car with an american engine

  • @dilawer321 i though that the bristol/ace cobra (the roadster) was the british/american combo...the daytona was designed and built from scratch here in california in 90 days

  • @johncartelli oh cool

  • @Jellyform You forgot the body was made in Italy

  • @mrzip8 What's highly modified? You mean, engine, gear box and rear end is highly modified

  • @Jellyform They don't care. Most American's are full of crap. A good sounding story beats reality every time

  • i wonder how original it tho, most race cars are rebuilt race after race, its the same now as ot was then. wonderful car tho id love to own it. i saw carroll shelby drive one of these at goodwood around 98/99

  • Lies! I bought the SAME car but smaller for just 1 dollar !!!

  • My favorite race car.

  • ...an awesome awesome car with a wonderful All-American heritage!

  • @lostadv and now ford needs to be smart and say hey carol design us a new daytona cobra coupe. so ford can get in the supercar race

  • @wonderbreadkw What's the super car race? must be in Mexico

  • What a great car! so well tought out!
