Honestly Lebron aint even the best in the L. So comparing Schea to Lebron would be comparing dunking ability. Schea honestly was a better scorer with more repitou and intangibles to score then Lebron. Lebron's more athletic. Yes I said it. 2days ballers just r more athletic & get more athletic yr after yr. Schea dunked with more authority then Lebron. Schea flushed ala Shawn Kemp. Had the scorers mentality of Paul Pierce. Lebron got in his way not only would he try dunking it but breakn his neck
Olujimi Mann, baron Davis, jason&jarron Collins,Chris burgess,Schea cotton... Damn Mann the 2nd best shooting guard.---Davis number one pg in the nation----jason&jarron the best two big men in nation--burgess the best power forward in the nation--- oh yeah and Schea the best overall player in nation at tha time.. Now that's a stupid ridiculous class..
Since his 8th grade yr he was already being talked bout that he could play with college guys at that age, so that got to his head but even having his older brother James on the league with SONICS he still didn't get it..
U guys got it all wrong the reason this dood never made it was cause it was his f u c k e d up head it had nothing to do with talent he had all the talent and more
Man I remember growing and everyone wanted to watch him play at Saint John Bosco's, what happen to this kid? He just disappeared, he was covered by SI first highschool player ever to be on the cover or something like that.
Dope stuf here. Came across this. Thanks for using my song.. This exactly what imspired me to write Cold World, Ballers doing what they Do Best. Im a Ball Til I Fall!
Dude should have stayed at Mater Dei. Coach McKnight would have helped him make some better decisions. For two years I would tell everyone...I have seen the future, the future is Schea Cotton. All cherished memories now. I wish him all the best coaching at Milliken and in the future.
@vegasnick23 - agreed he was sick even as a freshman. I saw him in the state finals during his sophomore year. If he stayed at Mater Dei it would have been a different story for him. Private school with a great basketball reputation, his future was set. Leaving was probably the start of the end for him.....
i saw him play as a freshman when he played along side miles simon at mater dei. they played against crenshaw who had k. johnston, t. folks and tommy davis, i might have the names wrong. he was amazing! i got his autograph, which i think i still have.
Overrated player. He's a tweener and was good in high school but did not have the skills of a shooting guard. LeBron at 6'8 275 is a lot bigger than Schea Cotton and the King has guard skills.
I'm not saying he was as good as Lebron but he was hyped from a young age the way Lebron was. Seriously, as a sophomore dude might have been the best player in the country. He will always be a legend in Long Beach. The greatest player that never was.
Didn't Sports Illustraded fun a 5 page spread back in the day for him as well. Thats unheard of even these days when print is dead. Kobe was even asked who the toughest guy he ever defended was and he said Schea Cotton in AAU and the reporter was like WHO? He got wronged by the NCAA
Most east coasters will frown upon the west ballers but this guy was the SH** before the SH**(LEBRON)> I saw him and his brother play in high school. What a talented crew. This guy was the reason big name athletic apparel went sponsoring High School sports. Nike swung from his nuttz for a long time.
1:19 the sickest alley oop i've ever seen at any level. this isn't the best angle, but what happened is the point threw the alley oop, but he threw it too far to his left, so instead of catching the ball in front of him and throwing it down, schea grabs it from the side and reverses it home. in a game situation (the socal finals no less.) it's one thing to do that in a dunk contest, but a game? sick.
1:44 the clip misses the start of the dunk, so you can't tell, but he went off of a PUMP FAKE, no momemtum at all, two footed and slammed it up and over a 7 ft guy. nuts...
dang dude this guy was introduced as one of our new coachs last night

Then he got to college and realized 6'5 isn't that tall anymore.

Had he stayed at md, could've won a state championship in 95. Had he went UCLA or AZ with Lute Olsen, would've bee fun to watch Pac10 bball.
