  • Nice video.

  • 6 people got eaten by a venus flytrap genetically engineered to eat things of all different sizes.

  • Hello Mr Brownthumb. I have a question to maybe you can anwser it.

I work at a botanical garden and there we grow some botanical species of Hippastrum to.

At the moment a very beautifull one is blooming. H. yungacensis.

I selfed it as it is pretty rare but I also would like to use the pollen to make a hybrid with a big flowered commercial hybrid.

Now I've heard that most big Hybrids are tetraploid. So do you think it is pointles to try?

    Thanks

  • @plantsman01 I don't think it is pointless to try. Give it a show and see what happens. Diploid with diploid and tetraploid with tetraploid crosses will result in higher number of germinating seeds but crossing a tetraploid with a diploid is possible, you will probably end up with fewer seeds you can sow.

  • Hi! Great info! Thanks!

When is the best time to sow the seeds?

Shoud I sow them right after they' re ripe?

  • @Rominitte Sow the seeds right after the seed pods opens. They don't stay fresh for very long. I have a couple of posts at the blog linked in the video description about sowing the seeds. Check them out if you have time.

  • @MrBrownThumb

    Thanks!

I have a fruit that's almost ripen, and I'm trying to sow some from last year.

When this fruit is ripe i'll sow it! :)

  • Very Interesting. Like a human man doing the plant with a strap on. (sort of)

  • @bmccabe81 LMAO.

  • hey thumb, i have aquestion...

can you pollinate amaryllis with the flower's own pollen? or do you have to cross pollinate it? i've heard that self-pollination causes mutants/defective plants.

  • Hi Ventriscosa,

You can pollinate most of the with their own pollen and it will not cause mutations. Although, some Amaryllis are not self-fertile so you need pollen from another.

  • funny lol im in school

  • how about HIBISICUS FLOWER

  • Pretty much the same thing.
