  • The tune was written by Mongo Santamaría.

  • Ugh...

  • this is my favorite trucks' afro blue recording

  • The camera work couldn't be any better. It is RIGHT where it is supposed to be--on that action. Derek trucks can fuckking GET IT

  • Congrats to Mr Susan Tedeschi

  • John Coltrane's song, guess the southern guys still know how to appreciate jazz

  • arranged by him, not written by him.

  • check out the trane videos of this tune.

  • this is good stuff man, reminds me of the good old days when they were 4 members

sounds great, and a very pleasant piece of camerawork too

  • Southern hill billy rock meets introspective urban street Jazz. Trucks plays like the wind is up against him at full throttle but he's gonna keep his boat sailing.

  • Bingo Fridays did a pretty cool version of this too. I think you just have to search for them on youtube and you'll find the video.

Going to see Derek Trucks and Santana in a week!

    Yeahhhh!

  • completely false

  • I disagree

  • long live drerck trucks

  • I saw Derek and Gov't Mule jam out this song for a 40 minute show ending banaza!!!

  • derek is the only guy who can pull off trane

and he doesnt even play a sax

    amazing, isnt it?

  • From that vid I'd have to say i heard maybe half a trane lick. Sure its a sweet version of a trane head but really the improvisation had no Coltrane feel. Sorry man.

  • yeah your right, there isnt much coltrane here but its much more prominent when he is without a slide. check out the first half of the desdemona solo

  • actually duane allman sounded more like trane there was comparisons to trane and him on his solo in memory of elizabeth reed with its pulloffs.

  • yeah no trane feel, but he isn't train. he's derek trucks, and completely gnarly in his own respect

  • i turn 20 in a month, i got to hurry and get better so i can be as good as him when im 20 haha. i got a long way to go.

  • Good for you

This is soul and the mind flowing continuously...dude,,,,, :)

  • isn't this "my favorite things"?

  • No, it's Afro Blue. Listen to Coltrane's version. Of course Derek added his own flavor. But no, it's not "My Favorite things"

  • there's a few on youtube, from brazil i believe...but it's not with dTb.

  • yeah! can you give me a link or something?

  • dose anyone know what happend to those videos of derek when he was 16?

  • I saw him when on his 13th bday in FLA I wish someone had that one he played dimples.

    ZEKE

  • search Statesboro Blues - Allman Brothers. there is a clip of him tearing it up when he was 12.

  • afro blue is great john coltrane is great and derek trucks is a BAMF!

  • I used to see him play around Jacksonville when his SG was taller than him. He was nine at the time I think. He's really good, that's for sure.

  • whenever it was, thanks! Great close-ups!

  • A few comments about this video

First - This is a great video of a youngish derek.

Second - The song is Afro Blue not Liz Reed

Third - Its not Derek's birthday, its 7-8-79

Fourth - It might be his birthday cause on 6-29-1999 derek was playing with the Allman Brothers Band (It is among my favorite tapes that I own.)

Forth - I love this video

  • you said fourth twice :)
