  • Plzzzz correct me if I'm wrong the kers take energy from the motor during braking and when the driver presses the kers button it gives it a sort of boost that makes braking more difficult?

  • @paintballGOD68 .. KERS are actually used A) via FLYWHEEL ; B) via MOTOR so KERS are used when a racer needs to overcome other racer/racers..so mainly it is used when it is needed..why would a driver use KERS and brakes at the same moment.. KERS are specifically used to boost speed using the Kinetic energy wasted by applying brakes

  • @JasonTyberiusKirk Considering it gives the equvalent of a small cars worth of power and weigh no where near as much as one, I'd consider it worth the weight, but hey, I just used simple logic, what do I know

  • @ImRyanD That is not logic, it is a trade off between more weight and complexity and simplicity and lightness. So logically it would depend on the type of track and which set-up would be the most advantageous.

  • @JasonTyberiusKirk The origan KERS system developed was a motor and small flywheel attached to the gearbox, there would be a gear attached to the flywheel and would generate energy, the release it by spinning the flywheel and in turn pushing the engine harder. this eliminates the unreliable braking system they were showing in the video.

  • @RussianPIMP64 In 2009 they still had a choice of flywheel or battery. The flywheel was only the storage medium. Harvesting the energy was still done under braking.

  • @JasonTyberiusKirk actually it doesnt add any weight because F1 cars have a minimum weight limit of 800kg and an F1 car can very easily weigh 600kg and the teams just add 200kg of balast on top of that (which they can put in different positions to change the weight balance of the car) all they do is put around 30kg less balast and the car still weight the exact same 800kg weight as it did before kers.

  • @JasonTyberiusKirk the guy said if you remove Kers then u have to put a ballast there instead, which i think is really stupid because either way, you still have the 30kg of mass on your car, at least having the kers system gives you a boost of power. the ballast does nothing.. there is another way you can use KERS without generating the power through braking. generating power through braking is the worst way you can have KERS in my opinion.
