  • Reminds me of the Giant Robot (Johnny Sokko) in the beginning :)

  • this is great he is perfect.

  • Hi, can you please repost this with the end if you have it? This interpretation is so wonderful :)

  • Comme les oeuvres pour violon seul de Bach; trop de grincements de cordes; trop d'accords; trop serré et saccadé; registres suraigus exagérés et manque évident d'équilibre dans les phrasés !! Quelque peu superficiel ! Désolé !

  • Quite nice. Incredible control and artistry like only Kogan, and a few others, could show the world.

  • anybody know where i can download the score for this caprice?

  • @Silvarando If you want to get the score you can find it at imslp .org/wiki/24_Caprices_for_Solo_Violin,_Op.1_(Paganini,_Niccol%C3%B2) about 2/3rds of the way down the page

  • @Silvarando try IMSLP

  • Most people play this too fast. I'd rather hear it slow andhave musical value, then to play it too fast and have it lose all artistic merit. He plays it just right, besides he's proved he can play fast countless times already.

  • looks like Kogan is losing in chess..lol

  • ilya kaler also great

  • No I also don't hear there Sound...

  • Comment removed

  • is it only on my machine or is there no sound after 6.10 ?

  • no sound on mine either its the video

  • O.K my machine also

  • I think it's just your machine and mine :)

  • In my opinion Itzhak perlman also plays this perfectly but I don't think shlomo Mintz is even close in comparison to kogan or perlman.

  • I love his legato! Not many do play this with so much legato, but I find it great!!!

  • really is fantastic

  • This is fantastic, only Shlomo comes in a close second

  • Agreed.

  • Amazing playing, love his legato!

  • nuca la habia escuchado

    pressioso

  • it's a bit slow side, but what a wonderful sound, and it's very in tune.

  • well yeah so many play it faster, but out of tune. this is by far the most convincing and best played #4.

  • LISTEN to the vibrato!

  • Wow He used vibrato on almost every note he played!

  • Hey, its Rostropovich!

  • this recording brought a new view of the paganini caprices. They are not only technical exercises but also "Music". Amazing!

  • Glad you've seen the light :) No. 4 is my personal favorite.

  • очень ровно конеш играет ...прям как на одном дыхании...каждая нотка со смыслом !!!

  • Simply, beautiful...

  • Incredible, Kogan played Paganini better than anybody else in my opinion.

  • beautiful!

  • The 1726 is one of the earliest del Gesus extant..

The 1742 'Cannon' is kept under lock and key in the Municipal Palace, Genoa. Don't think it will ever return to private ownership!

  • dude, it that a problem of my pc, or the last part of the recording has no sound?

    Anyways, its amazing!!

  • Same here!

  • markov does a pretty good version of this but it isnt as good as this one

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I've been wanting to play it at these tempi, but wasn't sure it was correct. If Kogan did it, it must be okay!

  • Thanks for posting this video..

    It's just perfect.

  • That Guarneri sounds amazing in his hands

  • I thought it was a stradivari? Did he have two instruments?

  • he had very many instruments but his guarneri was his principle one i believe correct me if im wrong

  • According to Wikipedia, "Kogan owned two Guarneri del Gesù violins; the 1726 ex-Colin and the 1733 ex-Burmester."

If you have knowledge of others, you might consider updating Wikipedia... :)

  • is that counting the one paganini used? or are they different guarneris?

  • i remember reading an ariticle stating that he actually didn't "own" an instrument that they'd lend them to him

not sure where but i really think that's what it said

  • thats how it was in soviet union, everything belonged to all

  • Id believe that. The Soviet Union probably gave one to him...anyone he wanted most likely

  • I strongly believe this is the tone of a Guarneri!

  • It was Heifetz who owned a Strad and a Guarneri. Wow...

  • what a beautiful interpretation of this caprice. It might be slower but gosh he placed feelings on paganinis caprices which usually violinists tends to use just for fast virtuosity show off. Im amazed how beautiful this caprice could be... Im gonna retake, start once again to practice it... totally a different interpretation I love it!!!

  • It is a treasure. This caprice is ,I believe ,my favourite ,because it is not just very demanding ,but it is emotional too. Then ,his interpretation is so clear ,and deep ,I could listen to this all night long..!

  • I played this caprice exactly like this once.....oh then I woke up, did I forget to mention that bit. In all reality, this is the best 4th I have ever heard. Ilya Kaler is the only one who even comes close, coupling the virtuosity with musicality, though it still does not touch touch it. Where most violinists scramble, Kogan phrases.

  • Funny you mention Kaler since he studied with Kogan while in post-grad at Moscow Conservatory.

  • Yes, it is Rostropovich.

Hi Leonidkogan47 : thanks so much for posting this. However, the end is missing.

Kogan was an angel on earth, truly.

    N.

  • Hello,

Yes I just noticed the error after posting. I'll repost this soon.

  • yes! Kogan once formed a trio with Rostropovich and Emil Gilels in a piano trio. I will post a recording they made soon.

  • bless you for posting these treasures!!!!!!!!!

  • is that rostropovich playing chess with Kogan?
