  • hi

holidayed in zim in 1982-3 i think

this brings back great memories before

bob went a bit psycho and ruined it all

    very nice

  • Wow, this is so amazing, thank you so much for the awesome video! I am a Zimbabwean far away from home, l did feel like l am home, OMG, this is so beautiful! Thanks a million...........

  • lovely , i was one of this , be4, i love this, this is also where i came from..blessed home sweet home.

  • i was in zim for the first time in 13 yrs,i cried all the way to my dads funeral.what a change'''.this video is brilliant,it brought joy, lost memories but lots of all tears to my eyes.just unbelivable video.next year i am taking my 2 boys home for the first time ,they;ve never been out of the usa.what an adventure its goin to be.wonderful video, tinotenda.

  • @kachaso Thank you for your kind comments. I'm sure your boys will love it in Zim.

  • handfp, thank you so much. your vids have kept me in touch with home and I cant seem to get tired of them. keep it up and hope you'll make another of them as adults.

  • Yes. I have watched all of your nineteen videos and I love them all. Again thanks for sharing.

  • Thank you for documenting this. This was my life growing up in Zimbabwe. It's just amazing to see my early life on tape. I miss this life so much. Thanks again and keep up the good work. You are all my heroes. I will definitely share this video with my American husband and child. More power to your wife for not forgetting her roots.

P.S. You kids are excellent actors and well behaved.

  • Thank you for your kind comments. Have you viewed the Zimbabwe Village 1999 video? Perhaps it's because the children were 5 years younger then but I prefer that video to this one!

  • Zimhunga is used to treat constipation, I leave it to your imagination where the leaves are put....lol

  • I love these videos and have seen them over and over again. I experienced both rural and city life, but some of my cousins had never seen live cattle in a kraal or been to the village. This is really nice. There are people in zimbabwe who cannot speak shona properly. Some people seem to look down on things that are simple thinking that it makes them inferior. Thank you colm and nora.

  • so real..thank you ..in some parts o f amreica we live like this, and are considered "counter culture" by the rest... it is so sad the "rulers" agenda is to wipe "us" out, and do away with village sovrereignty, so that we will depend on industrial supplies .... I have not been to Zimbabwe, but I would feel so at home there, I would not want to return here very soon I am sure!

This video was so well made, thank you, I know more what I am missing, as I play mbira from your people...

  • this is great,i also watched the clip from 1999,am loving this at least these kids kno their mum`s backround, lovely and i plan to do the same with my son who was born here, great once again, give us some more if u go again this year(coz its every 5 years that u get to go)LOVELY

  • this is great,i would love to give my kids the same experience, great parenting guys. Its unfortunate my parents stay in the city, maybe we will have o visit cousins or something.

  • Vana ava vakachangamuka, this is really good!!!

  • I love this video! I watched the one from 1999& was very impressed. I like the way you have shown some of the same things in both videos, showing that rural life hardly changes. One could have taken a video of this village 100 years ago and it would still have been the same. And the best thing about it is that with what the more developed societies might regard as so little, people seem content with their lifestyle and its simplicity. Makes you question your own life and priorities.

  • ok...um...i lived in zimbabwe...and i didn't live kumusha asikana...this is why ppl in foreign countries don't believe we have cities...I like the video and all, but I only lived like that when I visited my cousins. I spent most of my time in Harare. That's where I was born and raised.

  • You're right. Some people don't believe there are any cities in Africa! I must upload some footage from town.

  • Very informative video. With the Internet, let's hope people in little villages like these can share and develop knowledge of herbal medications with the rest of the world. Then people can rely less on high-priced pharmaceuticals.

Where exactly in Zimbabwe is this? I am researching the distribution of plant species, and I want to see the location on Google Maps.

  • The section about the plants was recorded in the Wedza district of Zimbabwe.

  • Thank you for that info. Now I hope GoogleMaps recognizes the name (or "search string") "Wedza".

  • i love the videos thank you

  • Thank you for sharing.

  • what tribe is that

  • The Shona tribe.

  • Great video! Loved seeing how they live and how simple life is there. God bless you all.

  • Oh my God bless you woman your children are brilliant. You must be very proud of yourself cause you want your children to understand your background.bless you darling.

  • pane akambodyirwa sipo nemombe asati ageza here?

  • taura hako kana hembe futi mombe dzinodya lol

  • nice video. wish zim kids will learn from this. many thanks

  • Once again, thank you for sharing with the rest of the world. Love your videos! (PS) Are you going back in 2009? :)

  • We were hoping to return this year, but that's not likely now given Zim's current difficulties. As soon as conditions allow, we'll be back.

  • Great videos handfp. Someone on the NewZimbabwedotcom forum alerted me to them. I've got quite a few Aussie friends of mine who wanna head to Zim with me early next year, regardless of the situation, I'll be sure to refer them to your vids to give them a taste of what to expect as I wanna take them to my roots in Gutu for a good week or so. All the best

  • Thanks for your kind comments. I have a brother-in-law from Gutu! Hope you have an enjoyable and safe journey kumusha next year.

    Frank
