  • There used to be a high speed catemeran service between ramsgate England to ostend Belgium much better way to cross the channel...it cut the journey time in half..theres only a normal ferry now and thats mainly frieght...

  • This captain was heavy on the throttle, there are other videos of this boat not smoking nearly as bad. If you put the fuel to the engines before the turbos spool up it will smoke. Cool video!

  • That is weak throttle up. It's not smoke it's steam. It's not bad for the environment, it's good for the environment. I rock. Brewers rock. Obama rocks.

  • That smoke is pollution. Pity. It shouldn't be, and doesn't have to be like that. Fast ferries are fun, but that kind of emission would not meet allowed limits in other places. Perhaps more maintenance is needed?

  • good old lake express taking over for the USS Badger. The lake express is a fun way to get across the lake. well recommended

  • I remember riding the Milwaukee Clipper in it's last year of service 1970, I was 5 years old

  • smoke ? :D

  • I can smell that diesel exhaust from here... brings back memories. Actually, that black smoke looks a little heavy on throttle-up...

  • It does. I am always around the Jet-Expresses and the charter boats in the Port Clinton area (Sassy sal, Irish Drifter and the like) I have seen some black smoke but not that bad. I take it you were a captain?

  • I agree that the exhaust on that throttle up is a bit heavier than usual.

But it looks like this video was taken on a light-wind day with a full load of Classic Cars which are significantly heavier than modern cars. Might of been behind schedule too and Captain decided he wanted to make up some time.

I'm a Deckhand on the LE.

  • Aft deck view is the best from a high speed ferry! Did the same when on the Jet Express on Lake Erie last summer.

  • The engines are MTU series 4000 16V M70 assembled at Detroit Diesel Redford Detroit Plant. Employed 1 mile west and supply parts to build both on highway and off highway. I deliver parts weekly - the best of my job.

  • I thought the engines on Jet-Express I was a Deutz MWM 604 V-12 diesel. The Jet II is a Deutz MWM 620 V-12 diesel and the Jet III a Caterpillar 3412E V-12 Diesel. I know these are all double engines.

  • Above is the Jet Express Fleet Engines from what I have. Traveled on all 3. The MTU 4000 are on the Lake Express.

  • oh.
