  • i watched also a youtoube video in a youtube video AND i recoredet it and posted to youtube and facebook ;)

  • ubuntu is the easiest linux version has ever created, this Mint linux has the same features as ubuntu and even ubuntu looks and uses better, maybe you like Mint than ubuntu, its user requirements, thanks for the video.

  • that looks so legit like literally

  • windows,mac and ubuntu had a 3some and made lunix mint ;p

  • excellent transition effects..

  • Linux is actually a sort of "Linus Torvalds' UNIX"

    It's actually an UNIX-derivated OS.

I know that it does not have the same commands and it's totally & completely free, it's still a UNIX-Like OS...

  • peace nigga

  • Can't wait for linux mint 9 coming may 2010 this month :)

    Can you wait?

    p.s RC realsed

  • Linux Mint Is okay,But i prefer Back|track 4 ^^

  • @HotGames4U

Backtrack is kinda ugly .. I hate KDE and I can use the terminal to install aircrack-ng or metasploit that's all I need

To be hones I rooting for Slitaz only the terminal doesn't has a nice copy and paste function

  • where can i find the wallpaper its looks neat

  • I am currently on Linux Mint 8 and at work on my HP I have Mint 7. Let me just say that this is the only real distro that I like and Opensuse wasn't bad. However the most impressive thing about it is that my wireless (atheros) got picked up straight away and now networking is a breeze in linux. Literally it was a breeze and all my touch volume control and everything works perfectly. I also noticed you still get a GUI even if you don't have the Nvidia drivers and then even that is easy. MINT!!

  • There's always one problem or another that stops me from using Linux. I came to Mint after frustration with Ubuntu, in particular, it just would NOT connect my MacBook to my home wireless.

SURPRISINGLY, both Ubuntu & Mint connected fine in LiveDisk mode; I just had to activate the non-free, proprietary Broadcom STA wireless driver

    BUT..

After a full installation of Mint, you'd expect activating that driver would be a breeze, right? WRONG. As in Ubuntu, I JUST CANNOT connect to my wireless

  • And my sour impression of Mint doesn't stop there: the welcome messages invited feedback, and presented a chat room for Mint users. Cool, I thought. I'll pop in and ask and I'll be fine. This sure beats "Ubuntu Babuntu" .. I was wrong. Even before I'd typed anything, I got the message: YOU HAVE BEEN BANNED!

    Banned? For what?

To hell with Linux .. I've been trying for years to make it my only system .... no way will ANY kind of Linux EVER be ready for prime time

    The help forums are pointless

  • Here's a comment I found on an Ubuntu forum (relevant to Mint because the two are turning out to be the same sh** under their covers) ...

    OPEN QUOTES:

"Ok, there's about 1 million people with the same problem : Broadcom STA Wireless driver problems since 9.10 ( worked for everyone in 9.04 )"

    CLOSE QUOTES

So it's not me, it's "a million" other people.

I wish the Linux nuts would stop going on and on about their favourite distros---NONE are ready for prime time and they'll never be.

  • Where can i get Linux?

    Is it good ?

    Does It cost?

Is it easy to use ?

    Should i use it ?

    Please answer

  • Most linux distros are free. Simply download a live cd burn and try or install. Its not as easy to use as windows or mac its a lil more complicate but if you go with ubuntu or kubuntu its not too bad. And if you should use it is up to you. The good about linux its free, fast, customizable, different and you can do all the basics on it. The bad it just has alot of compatability issues.

  • 1) Google

    2) Absolutely. Best for power housing servers, home computers. Not the best for home/office applications or major gaming.

    3) 95% are free 5% have costs (most I've seen was 60 bucks for a xandros package)

    4) If you know what the fuck you are doing. (Google for beginner linux os's to train on or read online manuals)

    5) Depends if you like playing around with computers? Depends on how you use it???

  • nvidia wallpaper lol

  • what are the system requirements for linux mint 8? iz it dah sayn as ubuntu? would linux mint 8 run on a acer aspire 0n3 110?

  • Well just tried to install it and can´t move the arrow about, it probably can´t find my logitech usb mouse

  • omg i want linux so friggin badly i would duel boot but i dont have a big enough hard drive :(

  • To install flash for Firefox, close it,open the Terminal and paste this: sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree

  • @amountstax4 ya the default player is bad but a recent update i applied solved it. It's getting their a couple more years and it will be a real market competitor. The start menu in mint is the best of all the operating systems. It has the best open source software obviously.

  • No the 64 bit flash has its issues, but flash comes from adobe. The 32bit is fine.

  • Oh yeah, and gOS has a better interface than most Linux distros especially Kubuntu... ew.

  • @cszqravr. true that.

@NiGhtMarEs0nWax. the only linux OS i'd ever change completely to is gOS. it has wine pre-installed.

  • I allways had problems with crappy video drivers under linux. Don`t get me wrong, I know, the ATI / nvidiadrivers r not open source.

  • you can get the xorg ati drivers, they are open source and work well enough. they are in the repos is you use ubuntu.

  • I would never change completely to Linux. I use too many important Windows based applications. I don't feel like messing around with WINE. I have my computer partitioned with Microsoft Windows Vista and Ubuntu 9.10. Believe it or not people Vista Home Premium Lite actually runs smoother and faster than Ubuntu 9.10 on 512mb ram.

  • @jameswx09 cause ubuntu really sucks ;)

  • ha, you mean you are a gamer!? i can appreciate that, the only reason i dual boot with Linux is for games. wine has a lot of overhead and is buggy, but 95% of the time I'm using Linux, for pretty much everything else.

  • Fed uo with vist changeing to this

  • in synaptic search for recordmydesktop :).....................................

very nice linux every one should try this one, very simple for use , maybe the easyest one for win users to pass on linux and to explore this awsome OS.

  • whats better in you eye linux mint or opensuse?

im working with opensuse 11.2 right now and loving it

  • It's more of a preference, I wasn't really impressed with Opnesuse but that's just me.

  • Mint 7 is nice, but in my opinion Super Ubintu is better. but.. mint is realy nice =D

  • Linux mint 8 Helena x64 RC1 is out :D

  • I love Ubuntu and all but for some reason Linux Mint seems like it makes Ubuntu more complete and you can still download from the Ubuntu respositories if you can't find what you're looking for in the mintinstall so thats a plus :) plus it seems more responsive, quicker, solid and stable. Highly recommended! :)

  • Also, your theme (the black & green one) is DOPE. Can you give me the link or the name of the theme? Thanks man.

  • That's an interesting wallpaper where'd you get it?

  • Awesome Video, I posted a video I made about Linux Mint as a Response ;-)

  • should i try this? I hate almost every windows OS except xp and im tired of it... o and can it get compatible with things such as wireless net or adapters?

  • Yeah, that will be good. Linux Mint is easy for everyone, including newbies like us. I installed it on my laptop and works fine, recognized everything, even my card reader and bluetooth device!!! Also, Mint looks beautiful, 100% Recommended.

  • aight thanks man hope it its as good as ive heard

  • Well, I am using Ubuntu 9.10 on one of my laptops, and wireless net works out of the box, and my HP printer works too.

So, I would recommend you to try latest Ubuntu. They made a very good progress during last year or so.

  • I was wondering if Linux mint got Libfaac in is distro since Ubuntu don't got it anymore

  • Man i wanna try this shit ! Not all that happy with vista. blah blah

  • If you wna stay with windows get windows 7 bcus it is good like xp was however give it a try if u want lol

  • yh, XP and Windows 7 are the two best OS's to get from Microsoft, all the other OS's i tried from Windows...Terrible!

  • I agree.

Two weeks ago I installed Windows 7 (upgrade from XP) on my old Qosmio F20 laptop with 2GHz Pentium M CPU & 1GB of RAM. It seems that Windows 7 is faster and more responsive than XP on my laptop.

  • i cant see the big differnce of mint to ubuntu.

  • Is it ungodly slow like old ubuntu?

  • he he at 0:57 he misses the play button

    he he

  • Mint is the greatest distro ever made. I'm serious, I NEVER have felt this way. Been using it for months. I've used many other distros for years on end. This was possibly the first time that I actually felt absolutely complete with a distro.

  • lol Same here. I've went from Ubuntu ( as people talk highly about it ) and certain things didn't work ( like my webcam and some other things ) then I went to Fedora ( cuz I figured it's the distro with the latest stuff ) but it was a pain to get the net to connect wirelessly to it.

Then I got Mint and was instantly satisfied. Everything works and is super easy to install & uninstall ( right clicking then choosing install...ahhh )

    The way I see Mint is: It's Ubuntu -> Perfected. : )

  • Yes, Ubuntu perfected.

  • who gives a crap about the default theme.. this is the 3rd video where i have heard this is better than ubuntu...ARE YOU SERIOUS!!! who keeps the default longer than the time it takes to change it....

  • looks really good i might have to try this out- been using debian but not as big as fan as i am ubuntu and i was planning on changing back

  • and ubuntu is based on debian:)

  • It's based off of ubuntu right?

  • @Charles2337

    More like a diffrent coat..

  • tienes la voz de michael jackson

  • It also comes with a variety of shitty apps too. Deluge for example.

  • Use gRecordMyDesktop in the repositories so you don't have to use your camera.

  • Mint 7 is cool. Try this distro! :)

  • wow whats that background picture???

  • I just watched a youtube video of a youtube video.

  • I love Mint 7.

  • Sick wallpaper

  • would anyone recommed that i jump for ubuntu jaunty to mint 7 gloria. im really considering it but i want to know your opinion. if its worth it?

  • Yes, it worth. If you want beauty and good navigation, try it. Main Edition with gnome ;)

  • yeah I recommend it cause it seems in linux mint theres better codecs that didn't work in Ubuntu that worked for certain videos on Mint so yeah I'd go for it plus i've noticed Mint is alot snappier and quick.

  • Jaunty is good. It's stable and clean.

Mint 7 takes Jaunty and improves upon it.

Burn an ISO, and try it out. See what you think.

  • Minta gloria is Jaunty under the hood. all the codecs I need is already installed. Flash installed by default. Very nice. Love it.

  • cool. I had extreme troubles getting flash player to work in my ubuntu

  • This linux is very interesting, my first linux!!!

  • google visual styles patch

  • can you change from ubuntu (9,04) to mint without reinstalling the whole thing ?

I mean, is there a command to type for the transition ?

  • No.

  • Nice quick review.

I've been thinking about getting this because a few people have recommended it for me. =p

    It looks nice.

  • based on ubuntu but faster and i like it better then regular ubuntu

  • i loved your voice =)

  • lol better than ubuntu, this is ubuntu based, just come with different interface, and with plugin already installed...you can have the same things on ubuntu.

is nothing more than ubuntu, is just a rip off, as there are many out there, like gOS.

    is good for newbie

  • yes free just download it.

  • Linux isn't an OS - its a software kernel. Its more appropriately called GNU Linux.

  • yeah im kind of a computer nub...

so what exactly does this do a new OS?

my friend asked me to go check this out

  • lol ofc it is xD

    all linux OSs are free

  • guys this distro is the best linux distros better than ubuntu its a great distro

  • why its better than ubuntu?

  • Its more refined, better driver support and it comes out of the box working with java and flash

  • Has anyone here got packet tracer to work in mint?

  • whats so great about linux? i never herd anybody talk about it. i just use windows

  • which is better for a pentium 4 pc with 256 mb ram, linux mint or ubuntu? and which has a better hardware support.. thanks ^^

  • Both are good. Personally I don't like Ubuntu, and Mint works perfect for me :)

  • i'd go with your suggestion.. thanks for answering ^^

  • Fluxbox Community Edition of mint for lightweight pc's is probably the way to go for that machine. : )

  • You don't fucking know shit.

You're talking about KDE for half of this video, not Mint specifically.

  • Comment removed

  • It's pronounced 'mu' torrent, not 'u' torrent. Damnit.

  • the thing is they know its not that good its only free for people who dont have the apple or windows opperating system its free because it has not much security updates also it lacks features.

  • its free because it is open source, and welcomed to all to modify, you should try, for basic application it is very welcoming to new comers

  • There's two problems with your logic.

    1. Linux is so secure, you don't even need security updates!

    2. It has much more features than Windows or Mac OS X!

  • More features i doubt.

  • Well, since it's open source, you can modify it to have as many features as you want! Instead of bashing it, maybe you should actually try it. If you are still too stubborn and closed-minded to not try it, get BSD. Mac OS X is based upon BSD so, you might want to try it.

  • well has it ever crossed your mind that i have to much important things on my pc to try it .

  • Well, here's the cool thing! You can try Linux without installing it on your computer using a LiveCD! LiveCD's run the operating system just from a CD. It will not make any changes to your computer. Just search on Google, "Linux LiveCD".

  • "well has it ever crossed your mind that i have to much important things on my pc to try it ."

If you are talking about files, just use an external hardrive to transfer. You can also partition your harddrive, and use files from your windows partition through linux. If it is programs you are worried about, keep in mind that for every windows program there is typically two to three linux programs that fulfill the same function. I suggest doing what the other guy said, try a livecd

  • ScottishSurvivor

I use Mac OS X, Windows, and Linux Mint. Trust me, it has more features :p

  • Its a nice theme, but what can it do?

    nada ninguno zilch f, all

  • Yeah I agree nice theme and the wallpaper is sperm cells attempting to enter the egg lol I just pirated vista(Ultimate) 32 Bit (I can get 64 bit but I choose not to) but I'm going to buy it later for my new build

  • Will I be able to install programs like ejay ,fruity etc?

  • you'll have to find out for yourself. I recommend partitioning your harddrive so you keep windows/mac and have linux as an alternative

  • Im downloading it now 43% through. Does the new MSN 2009 work on Linux Mint? And can you record a video via webcam?

  • linux mint copied vista start menu

  • Hmmm, yes, especially since it was made Before vista.

I dunno if you've realised, but linux is Free and vista is a rip.

  • well vista isnt a rip vista is good and linux is crap

  • you get what you pay for

  • you couldn't be more wrong lol

  • you can either get linux for free, or you can be a pirate and get windows for free

  • yeh, you get all the freebies that come with the overpriced sofware. Like the viruses!

have you even used linux, ubuntu, mint? Maybe you should have another go, now that you've learnt how to turn a computer on.

You still haven't given any basis to your argument at all, and i'd like to see you try.

  • and you are a fucking idiot :P

  • you must be trolling

  • You never even tried it!

  • lol not really, linux is more secure and customizable than either osx or windows and it's free so no,you don always get what you pay for.

  • vista is the worst OS ms has released so far (good thing i didn't pay for it). Hopefuly windows 7 will be better. linux is lighter, faster, more pleasant and free.

  • Free? Free as in free like the wind? Or as in daaamn, that free, no moneyz? haha, which one?

  • no moneyz. Most Linux distros are =P

  • yeah and they didn't even made a good rip. vista ultimate is like 300$ and linux is still more stable and pleasant to work with. If games and software would be made to be compatible to both windows and linux (like ut2004) windows would be long forgotten.

  • Only to make it "more user friendly"

  • yes it is! rly fast and easy to use!

  • sum people say that this is better than xp? true?

  • yup I'm using it right now and it is awesome! I haven't used the terminal since i have installed it! You should check i t out!

  • Depends what you like, there are over 100 distro's of linux, and i'd say go for openSUSE / Ubuntu / Mint, but KEEP your windows XP on a dual / triple /..4boots :P

u'll need it for things wine can't run ^^

  • does it work with a 124 bit system?

  • oh yes of course, especially since loads of people have a 124 system, naturally

  • he never showed the Terminal :(

  • That's the reason I like Ubuntu, because its main stream so there is a lot of support for Linux-Noobs like me haha.

    Very nice OS though

  • This is a damn good OS. Its fast, reliable, and fresh! (pun intended)

  • mainstream??? 90% people dont even know what linux is...

  • its said, linux pwns

  • That's wrong. A lot of people (far more than 10%) know what Linux is. The problem is that a lot of them are scared of it.

Linux Mint is very nice, I tried it today, it's even better than ubuntu in terms of user experience.

  • There is three mainstream OSs that people know about and use. Windows, OSX, and Linux. The fact is that Linux is mainstream were BSD or Unix is not. Oh, and don't say that Linux is unix because it is not.

  • I still can't believe how great these Linux window animations are. Beautiful!

  • Haha! I must agree. The animations are just one of the many reasons that I adore Linux. I mean, Windows is great, but something about Linux is just amazing. It looks good, and it works good, too. =]

  • i hate the automatic update thing that is so anoying gah its like i can update my system when i feel like it i dont need some gay ass memory hogging updater manager downloading updates in the background they need to get rid of that shit

  • where did you got the wallpapper???

  • Ireland ftw!

  • I have installed Ubuntu on my laptop, and like it. BUT, I have a Linux Mint CD that my friend made for me before I installed Ubuntu. He said to check it out. I did, and I decided to install Ubuntu. For some reason, Compiz Fusion isn't as laggy as it is in Ubuntu! I think I'll install Mint.

  • yeah for some reason Mint runs much smoother than ubuntu

  • ok how do you save your setteings on linuxmint cause everytime i boot the settings are back to the way i started

how do i save my changes so when i reboot it will be the same

  • Have you tried installing it on to your hard drive without just booting it?

  • Comment removed

  • Linux Mint is based of Ubuntu. I can't say Ubuntu is better, but it does have a much larger community. What i didn't like about Ubuntu is all the updates you have to install. Linux Mint's updates don't take so long + you get Adobe Flashplayer and Compiz and lots of other stuff wich you don't get with Ubuntu.

  • downloading this now.. im soooo tired of windows xp.. used it for years, its been great.. but its time for a change.. hope this is good. if not i can always get windows 7

  • I took this vid's advice & and I'm now trying LinuxMint, and I have to say I prefer Ubuntu.

One of the problems: right now, Mintinstall is stuck at 20% in trying to install Wine; it's been that way for hours.

At least one other (really vital) thing doesn't work, and it's making run back to Ubuntu (which I ALSO use as nothing more than an experimental system).

I abandoned "gOS Rocket" because I accidentally deleted many files--BUT THERE WAS NO "Recycle Bin" TO GET THEM BACK!

  • Quit complaining about your deleted files, try using ZFS

  • That sounds like a good tip actually.

  • linux mint is based off of ubuntu, basically it is ubuntu with more apps that a for specific things, so if there is a flaw, it may be that the cd you burned was corrupted or that you did something wrong. if you use sudo apt-get install wine, and that froze, then try getting the deb file from the internet..

  • I'm almost 100% sure the CD wasn't corrupted because I checked it for defects.

Thanks for the tip ... actually, I just looked at your YT page and it seems like you could be an authority on all things Linux.

Oh, would you know how to get dual monitors on an Ubuntu system working? I tried with a Dell laptop (c.2004) and an analog monitor, but I couldn't get it to work, and nothing on the Net really helped.

    Thanks in advance.

  • whats your wallpaper called?

or where did u get it from?

  • i have linux mint too

    and for demostration is bad

    you could do more things

you could show the square desktop

    the slider window arrow

    more things

  • I have Linux Mint on my Gateway!! It rocks!! I've switched between Mandriva, Ubuntu, Fedora and others. Linux Mint is my favorite though!!

  • Whats the name of your theme? Sheekey wize? Where can I download it?

  • I still rate Mint, PclinuxOS + Ubuntu for anyone considering moving over from windows.. In that order...lol ;)

  • I've come over from PclinuxOS and Ubuntu to mint and i too think it works really good. It fully found all of my hardware, it setup really quickly and its stable.

I'm actually hoping to try this on my Vaio laptop at some point... i'll keep ya'll posted!

  • GNU - I just came over from XP, and will never go back.

I tried Mandriva, Ubuntu, E-Live Gem, Dream, Knoppix, and a few others. None of them picked up my hardware like Mint.

i installed, and my printer just popped up completely configured. Hooked my 200 Gig hd to it, and can access all files. My cell phone, flash drive, DSL connection - same story. I installed, and they were there.

    Kudos to the Mint team.

  • I agree Linux Mint seems to have better plug and play and seems a little more faster and stable than Ubuntu. Gotta definitly like the software portal that comes with it.

  • My only question is about the WIFI. how stable is it? Ubuntu is really pissing me off and I am a hairs width of going to Windows. That should tell you how pissed I am.

  • Well, I have a USB wifi adapter and it works fine, doesn't always connect the first try, but that's nothing. I've seen some people complaining about their PCMCIA cards not working, but that's it. Good luck YouMockMe

  • thanks, still working out the issue....
