The man's a fucking oracle! Music videos are the main reason why looks mean more than talent in today's music. A tosser like Justin Bieber wouldn't have stood a chance in the 1960's or 70's - but Frank Zappa, or Floyd, or perhaps even the Stones wouldn't stand a chance today! Now how wrong is that?
Frank's right as usual---I can't stand MTV and most videos edited to simply destroy your attention span (let alone limit your expressive vocabulary)....
Even in a suit and tie Zappa is still a rebel. What would he think about all the stuff going on today. It all a Zappa song waiting to be written. This is a lesser world without a mind like his in it to poke fun at the pomposity of the culture were wallow in. It's all image and no substance.
He mentions how the first music videos were more interesting, remember when the Beatles did the videos for 'Strawberry Fields' and 'Penny Laine?' While the imagery had barely anything to do with the lyrics it still was far more intersting than the shit of today.
a hell of a lot more intelligent than our fake "leaders" that's for sure !

It's even more true today, unfortunately; pop music is largely a commercial jingle to go with the video.

it's become so compressed that mtv doesn't even show vids any more

Excellent clarity of the video...looks like it was done TODAY. As always, Frank is right on the money.
