Right. Knowing Harry changed my life. I knew him in the late 1970s and early 1980s and we had many wonderful times together, and he made some marvelous contributions to my magazine, BIKINI GIRL. So good that he received this award.
In 1991 Harry Smith received a Chairman's Merit Award at the Grammy Awards ceremony for his contribution to American Folk Music. Upon receiving the award, he proclaimed, "I'm glad to say my dreams came true. I saw America changed by music."
Harry Everett Smith died at the Chelsea Hotel, NYC, Room 328, on November 27, 1991.
My mother was a very close friend to Harry and told me John & Yoko looked up to him as a mentor of sorts! I was 14 when I knew him, a nice guy!

Brilliant! Thanks for posting Harry Smith.
Not that many people know it, but for those who do:
Harry Smith's done something far more impressive than change the world -- he's changed us.
