These systems were popular with passengers, but lack of durable materials, control systems, and consistent power generation at that time lessened their reliability. What a great innovation. A high speed rail could definitely help bring back some suffering US cities. Just kinda sucks that there is little movement going on with the US government in getting a high speed rail system going through out the US. Hopefully the California high speed rail will jump start some things. The infrastructure is there - there are a bunch of empty factory buildings that could be used to manufacture high speed rails and other environmental technology.
