@tonymcg4 Don't quote me, but I did sand my Michael Kelly to take out some imperfections on the fretless neck, I don't have the block handy but I'm sure I used a 12" radius block which is a flatter neck than a fender jazz ... I believe some jazz are quite curvy around 7.25" to 9.5" radius depending on the 4 string bass. So right there you're going to get a different feel with a Michael kelly. But it is very similar to a jazz bass IMO because the nick is narrow width and very easy to play.
@bassjackgruv Yeah, I didn't like those gold color roundwound strings (can't remember what brand they are) that michael kelly supplied with the bass ... so I put on regular light gauge fender flatwounds for electric bass and I must say, I like it better with flatwounds and I don't have to worry about tearing the fretboard up as much. I play pretty hard, so that's a concern.
Hey man, that mic sounds pretty good. It does have a bit of that higher-pitched noise that Basso was talking about, I think he might be right about a loose strap button or something. I notice I get that with my guitars when the tail button is loose.
Great tone on that bass by the way. I love my fretless MK. I liked the bit of Four on Six thrown in there, love that tune.
@mev1010 hey ... I just checked the tail button after reading this ... it's as loose as a ... well never mind (good diagnosing) :) ... gonna tighten it up tomorrow and test it again with the mic, see what happens ... hopefully that will fix it. The sound I'm hearing right now with it real loose doesn't sound quite the same, but the mic might pick it up differently. Anyway ... cool, can't remember if you told me before that you had a MK FL ...
Really good basic sound. The mic captures the low end pretty well. I am hearing a little high-pitched "tinny" artifact - could be an effect of YT compression & file conversion. Kind of a metallic ring - like a loose strap-lok button or something vibrating. High-EQ roll-off may help.
But the guitar itself sounds lovely. Nice 'upright" sound w/ those flatwounds. I have a 5-string fretless MK Dragonfly - used in "The Outdoor Type", which I see shows up in the related vids. =>
@Basso9x13 HEY .. i hear that too ... I'm not sure what that is! I thought it was my little computer speakers vibrating ... go figure ... too many variables ... I'll have to take a listen and see if it's an issue outside the microphone .. like a button or something like you said ... you hear it too... so it taint the speakers! :) Good to see you stop in again.
@EpsilonKias well ... it's not so bad! :) The dots along the top edge really do the trick to guide you. If you ever get a chance, try one in a music store or whatever ... I think you'll see it's easier than you think.
does this bass have a precision or jazz neck? I'm looking into getting a dragonfly fretless but only if it has a jazz neck

I have a 5 string Fretless Dragonfly. I put roundwound strings on it. You are using
flatwounds? Your sound is very different than what I get....

@Pudsy440 If that's the problem, glad I could help! The mic certainly could have accentuated the buzz because of the frequency it's at.
I'm not sure if I ever did tell you I had my MK. It's been a long time since I've commented on any of your videos.

The neck on that thing looks so pretty, it sounds nice and lovely as well, but I'd lose myself on that neck without fretmarkings.
