From what I've read recently, a lot of this 'hippie' craze was manufactured "youth culture" that was a distraction from political expression. The CIA specializes in social subversion, created Left groups. MANY people think Tim Leary was CIA.
Not that people who copied the youth styles and marketing and clothing were bad, just like people who copy heavy metal style or gangsta rap style or prep style today. Fashion slaves.
How come the US abandoned the South Vietnamese people. The South didn't want to live under communism, and wasn't the US aiding the South to defend from Northern communism?
We were all sold out by the Democrats. After Nixon reduced the troops, and at a time the Democrats were giving aid and comfort to the enemy. After Nixon was out we inherited a weak lack luster Ford. The Democrat Congress pulled the funding of the South Vietnamese out from under them - they sent the word to the North to invade becausse they had abandoned and sold out the South. Now they say they want to surrender in Iraq by cutting the funding now - history repeats itself!
Kissinger and Nixon both agreed Vnam was hopeless, but THEY did not want to call the end.
Middle class adults GRADUALLY joined protests. Veterans joined and then enlisted GIs who refused to fight and began attacking officers. Some Pilots refused to fly.
"Viet Cong" were the majority of residents of what WashDC called South Vietnam, the enemy was the people in their own villages.
history repeats itself
Dems like pro-war Murtha speak out belatedly for antiwar GENERALS, not lowly citizens.
I liked "Sound of Silence" but "Who Are You?" is from 1978, well after the end of the war and doesn't really evoke the memories of that time. A better Who song would have been "Won't Get Fooled Again."
Thanks for your comment. I agree that "won't get fooled again" would have been a better song, but it was the last day to finish the project and it was up to whatever i had stashed on my jumpdrive. I also liked the idea of questioning the nation "who are you?" and finding the answer in their actions. anyway, thanks again!
fuck you pussies. you guys suck ass. My dad served in nam from '68 to '73 to defend this country from those fucking gooks and russian bitches and you all fucking pussies and pricks did was to protest the war. You fucking faggots then go to CANADA YOU FUCKING COWARDS go to fucking HELL.
I love your video!!! It made me smile and cry at the same time. I was a young adult in the 60's and we marched against THE WAR, not THE SOLDIERS. You reminded of how glad I am to have been part of a generation that had a social conscience. Our government sent 58,000 men into a war...oh, excuse me, a "peace keeping mission" with one hand collectively tied behind their backs. We all need to do whatever is necessary to insure that we never have another Vietnam. Thank you, friend.
For all the people who think that vietnam veterans are horrible crazed people there is no one to blame but yourself. These men and women gave up everything, their famalies, freedom, and most their lives. But yet when they return people spit on them and yell at them for being cowards. The rich who stayed in college and the people who avoided the draft those are the real cowards. The veterans of Nam were discraced, desicrated and deprived of their respect by being treated the way they were.
I have done nothing to pose veterans as horrible crazed people. I disagree with your statement, "The rich who stayed in college and the people who avoided the draft those are the real cowards." How can anyone who stays in college be a coward? Fighting in a political conflict in ignorance of the situation is cowardice. It shows that you would rather bow your head and go than fight for what is right.
I'm a combat wounded Viet Nam vet. You would not believe the hate I encountered from people when I got home; people from my own generation. Even WW2 vets called me a "baby killer" and "loser". The political atmosphere was 10 times worse than it is now.
I never saw any atrocities nor did I participate in any. Not all US soldiers were blood thirsty killers. Aside from the anti war protesters Hollywood went a long way to paint all Viet Nam vets as crazed killers.
And what about the protestors that spit on troops comming back from the war? Or the ones that threw dog feces on them? Dont make them look like heroes when they are not...
don't make yourself look like an ass when you (probably) aren't. This was a video made for a high school class my junior year. the assignment was to show a view on an event in history by way of music video. Obviously my view was from the protester's bias (in case you didn't get that). If i had found pictures of that I'm sure they would have been included. My video won awards in the school, and I know it wouldn't make it far in college now; I am still proud because it (obviously) made an effect.
what is the first song????
this is very moving by the way!!!!!!
also another good and inspirational song is "give peace a chance" by the beatles.

Next time you want to insult my work, increase your vocabulary so you don't have to use degrading words like "pussies" and "pricks".
My father served in Nam as well, but you don't here me throwing obscenities around.
