@Ljenkins9000 krav is one of the only martial arts that was developed for the specific use of street fighting, where things like head butts and groin kicks are legal. it teaches you to take the other guy down quickly and efficiently so you have a chance to escape. as far as i know, its one of the only martial arts that trains you for specific scenarios you would encounter, like when someone points a gun to the back of your hand, or is holding a knife to your neck. krav is actually pretty useful

No. MMA began by taking all the traditional styles out there and allowing them to compete, for the first time, in a competition with no rules. The common mixture of styles you see today are practiced for MMA because they were proven to work through trial and error in hundreds of no-rules fights.

@Ljenkins9000 And as for sparring, that's pretty possible. Classes of that are even taught in many krav maga training centers. Except they're ussually restricted to the less effective striking techniques. The type I participated in used boxing gloves, shin protectors, body protectors, headgear and both a groin guard and an additional protector there.
You can practise attack situations, such as the group attack. You face several attackers, and try to stay on your feet best you can.

No the techniques are fine, it just may look weird when she does it. In fact Marcus Kowal, an instructor from the krav national training center in L.A. was the one who trained her for this film. So how about you get your facts straight too!

After having trained for decades, including level 1 instructor in Kapap, I may not know 'krav maga' per se but I know enough about body mechanics, sudden violence, etc, to know the difference between effective combat and hollywood bullshit, the only thing this movie depicts. You seem to be the one needing a reality check.
@josecarlos1955 this IS a movie. However if you can be bothered to search for a KM video you'll see its a combat system developed for street fights, the techniques are built upon natural instincts, for example, a choke hold, your natural movement would be to get the guys hands off of your throat first, KM does this, but then teaches you techniques, that work to effectively win the fight.
Krav maga has it's good points and for example Moni Aizik is very impressive with it, however Carl Cestari's ww2 close combat system is still the best i think. I would recommend a woman to fight more with edge of the hand strikes and open hands, rather than bare knuckle boxing with fists,cause they're vulnerable to injury, and once they're injured in a fight you're crippled.
Actually Krav Maga is one of the most practical and effective fighting system. If it wasn't, I highly doubt Israel army would waste time teaching it to their soldiers.

Lol. First of all, the Krav guy has no experience actually doing any of these moves. He also won't have an easy time doing it when he sucks at the other 99.9% of fighting techniques as well. If you can't even hit them in the chin, how the hell are you gonna eye gouge? There's also nothing stopping an MMA person from eye gouging and doing all this "deadly" stuff, and he'll have an easier time getting it since he'll have position.

Every art is considered the most effective ever made by it's practitioners. Yet, when they actually fight other MAists, it's ALWAYS the so-called "sport" people who win every time. That's when you start hearing excuses about rules, even if there were no rules to begin with.

The two cannot be compared. One was made for entertainment, for the cage, for guys to hug and grope each other without it being ‘gay’. The other was created to help protect a nation of people.

Umm, actually we do not send people over there to train. We send money and weapons. The elite military in the world today is the US military actually.
What's also funny and ironic about your comment is that, in reality, the US military has been teaching BJJ-based MMA for their hand-to-hand programs (Army Combatives and MCMAP) since 2001.

No. MMA began by taking all the traditional styles out there and allowing them to compete, for the first time, in a competition with no rules. The common mixture of styles you see today are practiced for MMA because they were proven to work through trial and error in hundreds of no-rules fights.

@Ljenkins9000 And as for sparring, that's pretty possible. Classes of that are even taught in many krav maga training centers. Except they're ussually restricted to the less effective striking techniques. The type I participated in used boxing gloves, shin protectors, body protectors, headgear and both a groin guard and an additional protector there.
You can practise attack situations, such as the group attack. You face several attackers, and try to stay on your feet best you can.

men obviously have more strength which i guess does play a part in fighting, but a lot of it is mostly technique, everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, like i do judo so obviously im good at grappling, throwing and groundfighting, but im not a good striker, well i cant punch and do mid kicks but im not thai fighter for sure, but if a woman hits you in the nuts, punches ur throat, pokes your eyes.... well thats gonna fckin hurt.

The move at 1:16 is wrong. You can't turn ur body if someone is holding you against a wall.. but that move works if ur not against something.

@kdahmaster Mate, in the UK they are only in the supporters reg. The US had a female SF member in the late 70's but she never got assigned.
Holland doens't even allows women in the marines and ireland/scotland are countries I am less familiar with...
Poland (GROM) and N-korea do have female members, but, as I said, these aren't western countries.

@Kakarru: the plucking defence doesnt work with your back against the wall because there is not enough space for your elbows!!!!! With the plucking defence it is important for the opponants energy to go forward in YOUR direction. Off course it IS always better than doing nothing ;-)

Like I said before, the 'techniques' taught to the female victim in this movie are so wrong and unaplicable in so many levels, depending on this stuff to save one's life will only end in a bad way. Any kind of WWII combatives such as Fairbairn (not really a Cestari inovation) derivatives is superior to this stuff. I doubt the Israeli military relies on 'krav maga' to train their operatives, maybe the rank and file but not the special forces.

Joes, the isreali millitary does rely on krav maga but the tecnhiques shown in that clip are flawed and incorrect. It looks like someone has seen krav maga once then tryed to show someone teaching it. There are a few very small elements of krav maga there but they are innocorect and sometimes even used in the wrong situations.

The choke release she does against the wall is wrong for starters. Plucking would be used in a sitiation with a personsback against the wall.

false! when you are choked against a wall like that u drop a shoulder and then do the same escape as a pushing choke from the front, just like she did. I am sure a pluck with a groin kick would work as well, but I know for a fact what she did was correct.

After having trained for decades, including level 1 instructor in Kapap, I may not know 'krav maga' per se but I know enough about body mechanics, sudden violence, etc, to know the difference between effective combat and hollywood bullshit, the only thing this movie depicts. You seem to be the one needing a reality check.

However if you can be bothered to search for a KM video you'll see its a combat system developed for street fights, the techniques are built upon natural instincts, for example, a choke hold, your natural movement would be to get the guys hands off of your throat first, KM does this, but then teaches you techniques, that work to effectively win the fight.

Krav maga has it's good points and for example Moni Aizik is very impressive with it, however Carl Cestari's ww2 close combat system is still the best i think. I would recommend a woman to fight more with edge of the hand strikes and open hands, rather than bare knuckle boxing with fists,cause they're vulnerable to injury, and once they're injured in a fight you're crippled.
