  • What Lens are in this video (on the 20D)?

  • I got my Canon 20D with a stock 18-55mm lens, a case and a 2gig card for $200. i feel sorry you went that rout, brotha.

  • @mfgunit i got the same equipment, but with battery grip and 1 gb card. 250EUR..

  • @piteur ouch, thats like 400 bucks. i just bought a canon xsi on ebay for $160- its marked as broken, so ill try to fix it ( lens not connecting properly) fingers crossed easy fix.

  • @mfgunit well.. it's not that much.. my camera shooted abt 2000 pics when i had it.. have u ever thought that it could be a problem with it's sensor?

I wish you an easy fix too.. let us know what it was!

  • @piteur camera arrived fully functional, came with every thing in the box, including lens. guess it was a fake return, i got it for a steel, thank you ebay hehe....

  • @mfgunit Remember, this video was made about 4 years ago. At the time, you could not get a 20D with kit lens and 2GB card for $200.

  • there is a real easy quick fix for this, aint no need to send it away

  • So despite you issue. Is the Canon EOS 20D reliable? Plus, can that be ifxed?

  • here's what every canon camera does when you get an err99: digic: hey mirror, move! mirror: ok, shutter, flip to open! shutter: *-* mirror: SHUTTER! MOVE IT shutter: *-* mirror: IM GOING TO KEEP ON MOVING MYSELF UNTIL YOU MOVE! shutter: *-* digic: oh shit our master is frustrated at us, don't worry ill distract him with a random message, say how about err99? mirror: sounds confusing enough for me lol
  • @HelloNewYorkCity epic xD

  • 100 dls will cost you a new shutter dont worry

  • UPDATE - the camera is all fixed. I sent it off to canon for a repair. The shutter assembly died. 400AUD later and its all fixed.

  • @jameinternational You were better off selling the broken camera as parts. A used 20d in working condition isn't even worth 400 AUD these days.

  • please ignore my last comment, my camera does this exact thing :( I don't know what to do.

  • *Fanboy Alert*

  • If you will do a yahoo shearch for error 99 and you will find that you just need to clean the lens contacts with an eraser. Also clean your lens. Your problem is oil on the contacts shorting across. The oil is from your fingers.

  • I changed my CF card -> no changes

I removed the battery AND the CR battery, let the camera on without battery for 10min and powered on again -> no changes

    I take less than 50 000 clicks (about 20 000)...

I can't update the firmware because the back screen do not power on when I push the menu button...

    Snif..

  • Is your problem fixed ? I have exactly the same problem with my 20D

I remove the lens and powered on > no changes

I tryied with 3 other lenses -> no changes

I removed the battery, try with two other -> no changes

I tryied with my battery grip -> no changes

  • just get a firmware update canon fixes it there

  • looks like you have a jammed shutter button

  • I had the same error on my Canon 30d, the problem was the lens, it was broken and caused the error...have you tried to turn it on with the lens out? have you changed the CF card? just try it, if not then do a hard reset.

  • can anybody fix it??...

  • dosent matter... only a 20d ... :D haha

  • Moisture or some shit in the shutter release button?

  • up date your firm ware!

  • O my god, i am so glad, that i bought an olympus dslr.

  • olympus sucks balls! lol

  • actually you`re the one who sucks balls! Olympus used to make microscopes so their optics are the sharpest and plus their autofocus is fastest!

  • just because they made mircoscopes doesnt mean their optics are the best. canons 1d series is one of the fastest af around my old xti has faster af then any olympuses i have seen. your just angry cause your probably one of the losers who bough olympus cause it was cheap... even the highest model is cheap at $1700. anyway tell olympus to get off canons dick!

  • this is completely off-topic. And it´s wrong, too, they are still doing microscopes ;)

  • @jcp2k They just needed to be told :L

  • @jcp2k

Canon vs Olympus??? really ? don't be children... art is not obout tools

  • actually Leica and hasselblad make the sharpest lenses....

  • Not sure if you had this figured out, but typically with Err99, you can turn the camera off, remove the lens, power cycle, replace the lens, and it should clear the error.

If not, or there are other issues, you may have to flash the firmware and that solves the problem 90% of the time. There are tutorials online how to do this.

Err99 is not exclusively a lens issue or a shutter issue. Err99 is the code given to non-standard errors with the 20D which can make it tough to troubleshoot.

  • error 99 is a problem with the lens connection or with the battery connection

  • Have you got the AF 18-250 F/3.5-6.3 XR Di II

  • I have 2 20d cameras and both have constant error 99 messages. I take it to the canon service center for cleanings and to update software and still nothing changes, I know my shutters are going to go soon.

  • That is what they do when the shutter is kaput. The 20D is supposed to last for 50,000 shutter actuations. The repair is not too expensive. They replace the shutter with a new one from the 30D model (maybe even 40D now). Then the camera is "good as new."

  • that good to know as i have one which i am afraid it will happen to. thanks

  • That scares me, I love my 20D, but I get odd errors in cold weather now and I hope it won't affect the longterm life of my camera.

  • What sort of "odd errors" do you get?

I've used my 20D in -23C conditions with no problems. You may try slowly acclimating the camera to the colder temperatures, instead of perhaps taking it out of your house/vehicle/tent whatever and shocking it in the cold, and vice versa, taking it from the cold and right into a warm building. Either can create moisture and condensation issues.

  • youre from sydney arnt you?

i can tell by your accent.

  • I had the same problem, it is an error in the shutter, you should send the camera to the Canon -service, they will change the shutter.

  • Ouch man, stinker... My 20D is at around 140k clicks, so I'm just hoping it doesn't go before I get my 40D

  • 40d is doing it also I just got one 4 days ago I'm getting the code.

  • blend it...will it blens Eos DSLR///

  • sad... ive got 20D - i love my camera... i think the are rate sth. near 100,000 clicks...

BEST REGARDS!!! I Think that you send it to Canon and repair

  • Your shutter is dead. They are rated for about 100,000 clicks. The shutter in a digital SLR is about the only moving part in it and the only part that will fail due to normal wear and tear. Send it to Canaon, usually costs about $250 to solder in a new one and she'll be good for another 100,000 clicks.

This is why I am looking for a 2nd body before I start doing high paying gigs, you never know exactly when the shutter will wear out.
