  • liza minelli ftf?

  • Great music from that wonderful era! Before my time, but how it affects me! Jazz and popular music from the 1920's and 30's! What a treasure our country gave to the world of music!

  • Great tune. Inane lyrics.

  • bobparis is correct!

  • Who's the woman at about 0:50? The woman having a cigarette lit?

  • Looks like Marlene Dietrich, in "Destry Rides Again."

  • the flapper, starting at 16 seconds, is joan crawford!

  • Just got an original copy of this on Edison, along with a Diamond Disc machine....fantastic...!!

  • Great music,wonderful pictures!

  • Great recording good ole Thomas A. knew what he was doing even tho. he was hard of hearing. The records are still with us while most of the generation is now dust.........

  • @HarborGuy

What's also incredible is that these wonderful recordings were preserved on the Edison label as Edison hated jazz and he also insisted on personally approving each recording.

  • This is really delightful music.I could, and do,listen for hours, wasting my life in front of the PC-but,is this a waste? This is music for the ear,the heart and soul,Modern "music" cannot compare.Thank you for the clip.

  • "This music is 80 years old, been through a worldwide Depression, two world Wars, the Cold War and it is still here!"

Just one world war.... the first one was a decade before this.

  • Fully agree with you joeocho88.

80 years on and still going.

    Not like the rubbish today..

    Here today gone tomorrow.

  • The Edison company's counterpart of Paul Whiteman. Rolfe even resembles Whiteman physically! Edison studios recorded some great early jazz. There are many really wild Blue Amberol jazz cylinders.

  • IMAGINE! This music is 80 years old, been through a worldwide Depression, two world Wars, the Cold War and it is still here!

That's because it is GREAT JAZZ!

Too bad the musicians aren't here with us anymore.i would like to thank them and tell them how much I ENJOY their music. Hopefully, during their lifetimes, somebody else already did that for me.

  • 240252, you are in a class of you own; you are great!

  • Apparently this is an Edison electric recording. What was the label no. 52---.(LOU)

  • Just great! Thank you.......

  • Thanks for confirming, then we agree!

  • Lawrence Welk, whom I never cared for, always kept those accordions droning. But as to why they disappeared from American bands? It could be just as simple as...the originators of BeBop

didn't play accordion, i.e., historical accident.

  • I disagree the statement that accordion solos were abandoned by the 30's orchestras. I have at least 20 recordings including accordion playing, dating from the 30's and 40's. Most of them are European bands.

  • Since his better recordings are the later ones, he must have given in to pressure from within to compete with the other companies.

  • This is effervescent and just makes you want to roll back the carpet! I have this on a CD and play it if my mood needs a lift..

  • Ibid, ditto, same here. This has a soft "twang" that adds to its liveliness. Hard to believe there was a Lucky Strike orchestra; the joyful music of my parents'

long ago youth, world events be damned.

  • Hello, sweetie! Back to you later.

  • Brilliant recording! Edison could edit hot stuff now and then, when he was in high spirits.

  • Enjoyed very much!!Thanks
