  • Bravo Granforte, tecnica solida che gli consentiva un canto a tutto tondo.Avercelo ora (2011) ci sarebbe da leccarsi le dita.

  • His pupil Ricardo Ledesma became one of the greatest tenors. Look for him on youtube

  • remarkable sound for 1927 Sounds as if this was recorded in an auditorium in the 1960s- On certain notes he reminds me of Merrill with a little Bastianini and McNeil thrown in.- I had heard of him but this my first listening - Nice rich voice -very well focused- Aria lags in pace a bit for my taste

  • UNBEATABLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "Forgotten?" Actually, Granforte has an outstanding reputation. He more than lives up to it here! Not only a rich, powerful voice, but an elegant, musical one! He sings with genuine feeling, without artificial sobs or exaggeration. If only more baritones were singing this way today!

  • Not only is this one of the most amazing baritone sounds of all time, but he really inhabits the music - sings every word full of meaning - wonderfully musical singer, and what a SOUND!

  • Perfetto, voce di un volume che oggi non si trova più e stile modernissimo

  • Amazing voice. His tone sounds so easy and powerful. He was the teacher of Jesus Quinones Ledesma, dramatic tenor.

  • What a delightful surprise!

    Belissimo!

    Reminds me of Ruffo...

  • Granforte was a true dramatic baritone, as opposed to our ubiquitous lyrics today. I'm NOT denigrating lyric baritones; such was my fach during my performing days;). And I admire Hampson, Keenlyside, Allen, Quilico, Gunn, Finley, Sharp etc., when they aren't trying to convince us that they are Verdians or Wagnerians. But the richness, darkness and sheer heft that Granforte exemplifies here are nowhere apparent among those guys or any other contemporary baritones, alas:) --

  • I also think, that one who heard him could never forget him. At least not me!

  • CHE VOCE!!!!

  • + 100 !!!! IMMORTALE !!!!! GRAZIE !

  • Who has forgotten Granforte? Everyone who knows anything about baritones at all, knows about him. Who could forget his Zaza? (Cascart)

  • Ladies and gentlemen, THIs is great singing and what a TRUE BARITONE sounds like! In fact, I think it's one of the most technically flawless and moving examples of singing I ever heard from an Italian baritone.

  • its nice to imagine things even if they are not true... thins like it sounded like a cannon stuff like that.. so that today aren,t singers with voices like that are just stupid jokes ... he is an amazing bariton a very beautifull voice and technique but legends do exist today to !!!!

  • This is the sound of a true baritone voice.

    Velvet,warmth,diction,musicality,expression.

Think of how it was to see such a man on stage and hear the sheer acoustic of such an output!

  • Superb. Lisitsian also nails this aria to

    a "T". Thank you.

  • To have the stage name, Apollo Granforte (God of music, large-voice) - you'd better be able to sing!

And of course he can. Love his singing.

  • i grew up listening to the greatest baritones. this man of course was one of them. incredibly clean attack.

  • Wonderful! Thanks!

  • One of the finest baritones ever recorded --

  • A true master. Incredible!

  • Apollo Granforte was one of the baritone greats though his career never took him to the Met as far as I know. The great baritones are history.

  • Granforte is in good company since Battistini never sang at the Met either.

  • MrCafiero :

    One cannon ?

Granforte's A flat sounded like a whole battery shooting. Incredible voice !! And keep in mind, this recording is from 1927. Hard to imagine how big his voice would have sounded today on a digital CD ?

Thank you for posting this incredible true baritone voice.

  • An unknown singer to me before - thank you primobaritono for uploading this outstanding performance.

  • The Ab was like a cannon shot!!!

  • A great performance by a superb baritone though I marginally prefer the performances of the aria by Battistini and Amato.
