Ugh, this video is so terrible, I don't even know where to begin.
Why do they let children upload videos??
First, and most importantly, your Windows install is clearly F'd up. I could make Gentoo or Arch Linux take 15 minutes to boot up if misconfigured and cluttered with crap (just look at all his desktop icons for starters). Nice background in Windows, why no fancy background in Linux? I'll tell you why, he has a stock Ubuntu install and is comparing it to his destroyed Windows partition
Have you tried this test with Ubuntu 9.04 or later? I got about a 30 second boot time off a live CD which is significantly slower than if you have it installed on the computer.
Linux doesn't slow down when you install a bunch of junk unless you tell them to load when you boot. My system runs just as fast as the day I installed it.
What makes Linux more reliable is that it is not as prone to crashing (unless you play with something and break it), also, have you ever seen a Linux virus, I haven't. Oh, and ALL software gets updated through the OS. upgrading to the next edition can be done without shutting down, and legally without losing a large sum of cash.
you do have to ask yourself, are there no (well, 40) linux viruses because nobody bothers to make them (because nobody uses it) or because it's so secure?
if you have any knowlege of linux you should be able to answer this correctly.
My Ubuntu boots in ~20 seconds on AMD 2.6GHZ Dual Core, about a year old PC. There is a utility that precisely measures boot time, with substeps etc. I can't remember the name. I don't know if there is Windows version though.
UBUNTU sucks it start too many useless services on boot! I boot gentoo is under 6sec on "OLD?" hardware AMD 3500. Windows can not do that. Vista needs fast hardware to be of any real use!
Sounds like he was using a split chronometer, where we can take two countdowns at a same time. So, in the timer 1, he was counting the ENTIRE boot time, in the counter 2, the boot after something I didn't get, but sounds like a password check...
Wow dude that was the stupidest thing i ever saw. First of all u had all that shit that had to start up so u could make xp look like vista. Second If it was vista for real it would load faster then that, i do admit however that Linux does boot up a little bit faster then xp. But not that long.
Your machine is slow as heck. Ubuntu on a decent machine doesn't take THAT long to start. Personally I think Ubuntu is too heavy, I like Archlinux.
As for Windows...well it will never compare to any distro of Linux in boot time. But 7 isn't too bad in boot time.
Either you have a slow machine or you're booting too many processes.
