Ok guys. Three Radiohead songs have 15 in them. Why? Just-"Won't get no sympathy hanging out at the 15th floor?" Climbing up the Walls-"15 blows to the back of your head. 15 blows to your mind." 15 Step- "15 steps, then a sheer drop." What is the significance of 15?!?!?!
@bbrriiaann9922 thom has said in interviews that alot of the lyrics he uses, he uses purley for how they sound, and that many of lyrics don't mean anything at all. 15 could just be a word that he really likes for how it sounds comming out of his mouth lol

my 3rd favourite radiohead song after bodysnatchers and planet telex. too bad it was on that twilight movie, completely destroyed the song. I remember i went to watch it with a cousin overseas because her and the rest wanted to see it and i had no idea what it was. then i heard 15 step at the end and i was so let down. I'm actually surprised radiohead let them put it in the movie though.
Oh no I already was a fan...I have become a real heavy fan recently...but not because of twilight...honestly I did not like the movie...it was very boring...I have not even read the books...I read the first three chapters and got bored with it...I went to the movie because my brother asked me to...he is a big fan of the book series...but he did not like the movie either...I just cannot understand why there is so much hype over the movie,books...etc...
radiohead is so damn amazing, where twilight is a queer book that girls read because they think its cool to read now, but the only damn book they have read recently is twilight...god i hate the twilight crap
i wonder what 15 step sounded like when they just wrote it it would be funny if it were just an accoustic guitar song like How to Disappear Completely was during OK computer era
Dear god, please read MOJO Magazine of February 2008. That's where I got all the information...because, well, THOM said it in the interview about the songs on In_Rainbows.
15 Step had been kicking around since the recording sessions of Kid A/mnesiac and they played it, as well as songs like Nude, Arpeggi, etc. throughout the '03/'04 Hail To The Thief tours. After the HTTT tours, they went back into the studio and tore apart songs like Arpeggi, Videotape, and Nude (which was previously names Big Ideas).
I went to go see that with a friend of mine, even though i didn't want to see it personally. For that reason, the credits were the best part, as i was shocked when 15 step came on!
I didn't like this choice of song for the ending - it was a horrible contrast with the last song 'Flightless Bird' which is much better. :) lol - I was just having a listen to this to.
House of Cards is old too. I have versions of Weird Fishes, House of Cards and Nude (previously titled "Big Ideas") that are from like the early 00's and even earlier for Nude.
artists play unreleased songs in concerts sometimes. fall out boy played "this ain't a scene" at a show that was 1/2 a year before the album was released.
I can't wait to see them in Vancouver and San Diego, it's going to be sweet! Especially hearing Yorke's voice, Johnny's crazy guitar moves, and Phil's rhythmic drumming.....

yeathe melody does sound african, but i don't think it's sampled. thom would have mentioned it when he was talking about 15 step in one of his interviews last year. where do you think it's sampled from?

This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Ok guys as much as we love Radiohead let's be honest with ourselves and admit that Ed really doesn't do much live. It really is limited to things like noodling with a Kaoss pad, the odd sustained note here and there on songs like Pyramid Song and How to Disappear (which's drowned out by the strings anyway), and muted chords on Morning Bell (which have no real note or tonal value and I dare say are redundant to the song). But of course I'm sure he contributes in his own special way in the studio.
I used to think that too, but he does a lot more than people realize. In more recent live shows, he really doesn't do that much, Dollars & Cents is an exception, but in earlier live performances (Astoria Live), Ed was definitely an underrated part of the band. A lot of the weird, Radiohead characteristics of songs were usually of his doing, all that feedback and tremolo and shit. Plus, songs like Paranoid Android and the Tourist wouldn't be the same without Ed.
I think it's pretty apparent that Ed contributed a lot in the studio and the records of past. i don't think he was underrated then.. what would nice dream be without *bubble* effects? (and its not sacarsm to would-be-naysayers)
but wow, really looking at this.. he just isn't doing much. is he running out of ideas?
there's obviously some songs where band-members are left out. i don't think phil really does much during idioteque except for maybe 30 seconds or so. another thing ed contributes is killer back-up vocals. absolutely unbeatable.
good shout with the backing vocals, definitely worthy of mention.
you have to take into consideration that ed's main intrusment is the guitar and radiohead have three guitarists...each member plays a valid part in sementing radiohead as the most brave and challenging band in the last twenty years of popular music.
Ed does a lot live. A lot of the time he's making his guitar or effects sound like a synth, which probably makes people think it's being done by Jonny rather than him. In this song he's using a sampler to play the synth parts at the end, one of the main parts of the song.
but those songs wouldn't be what they are without Ed's weird guitar noises. that's what makes radiohead super uber fantastic - everyone contributes and everyone is important. stop these ignorant remarks.
"looking at this he isn't doing much"? first of all, it's just one song. and second of all, you aren't paying enough attention. i'm not sure what exactly he's doing but it clearly has something to do with that awesome guitar drone.
anyway, stop your silly drivel. i bet none of you are even musicians, because clearly you have no clue what Ed's contribution to Radiohead's sound is...there's more to making music than strumming the chords.
Hotdesk, be honest with yourself and admit that you're a clueless twat who hasn't played a note in your life. Nothing is drowned out on HTDC, never mind that there are no strings in it live. What's funny is that all those atmospheric guitar noises and drones, all those "embellishments" are so Radiohead, yet Ed never gets any fucking credit or respect for it. And also, from what I heard, on certain songs everything runs through Ed's pedals. Everything, including Thom's vocals and your mom.
As regards How To Disappear Completely and Morning Bell that were mentioned in the original comment, Ed plays lead guitar on HTDC, and on Morning Bell he and Jonny both do seperate lead parts, which is particularly audible live. You're on youtube, look them up!
oh totally, there wouldn't be a radiohead without Ed O'Brien. He is the Stirling Morrison to both Jonny and Thom's Lou Reed, plus he can friggin rock out with the best of them. For that matter, anyone who asks why Phil Selway is still in the band (there are a few), that's like asking why Bob Nastanovich was still in Pavement after Gary Young was replaced by Steve West. The answer is: because he's fucking Bob Nastanovich! Blur wrote "Song 2" in honor of the guy!
I saw your site. Your music heroes are all arpeggio-obsessed ego-solo 1987-style dueches.
"Musical genious" isn't he who can play a run of notes the quickest; it's he who can move someone's spirit the deepest. You make, and like, obnoxiously showy solo-cliches, because the concept of spiritual depth to music, is foreign to you. The latter stages of Moonlight Sonata are hardest to play, but the one that sticks to you, is the first section. Think about that, lightweight.
hey ed! xx see you soon hopefully, well have to arrange it. we'll call sometime!

DoctorTchock 4 years ago
good shout with the backing vocals, definitely worthy of mention.
you have to take into consideration that ed's main intrusment is the guitar and radiohead have three guitarists...each member plays a valid part in sementing radiohead as the most brave and challenging band in the last twenty years of popular music.

Ed does a lot live. A lot of the time he's making his guitar or effects sound like a synth, which probably makes people think it's being done by Jonny rather than him. In this song he's using a sampler to play the synth parts at the end, one of the main parts of the song.
cmcbride 4 years ago
but those songs wouldn't be what they are without Ed's weird guitar noises. that's what makes radiohead super uber fantastic - everyone contributes and everyone is important. stop these ignorant remarks.
"looking at this he isn't doing much"? first of all, it's just one song. and second of all, you aren't paying enough attention. i'm not sure what exactly he's doing but it clearly has something to do with that awesome guitar drone.
Tripoli78 4 years ago
anyway, stop your silly drivel. i bet none of you are even musicians, because clearly you have no clue what Ed's contribution to Radiohead's sound is...there's more to making music than strumming the chords.

Someone actually had the audacity, or ignorance, to ask why ed is still in the band? um, he is kinda the workhorse if you look closely
niceandeasygeorge01 4 years ago 4
oh totally, there wouldn't be a radiohead without Ed O'Brien.

I'm a huge Radiohead fan and I'd like to say that the last part of Moonlight Sonata is the most gripping for me. First part gets old.
Anyways, top-notch song right here.

Emptycorp,
I saw your site.

I can't believe this band is so successful, it's this pretentious crap that keeps bands like Maroon 5 out of the spotlight.
