  • Wow, it really *does* sound like the theme song from 'Pirates of the Carrabean.' Not that I mind at all - I love Hans Zimmer's music. This one is no exception. :)

  • hay everyone i have a video of the opening battle

  • I just played a battle of Rome: Total War listening to this song - epic.

  • Pirates of the Carribean sucks. Gladiator OWNS!

  • @koentaya thats right!!

  • Gladiator >>>>>> PotC

    End of Discussion.

  • speaking of potc and gladiator it was funny cause i was in a competition where we had to answer random questions to get points for our grade and the potc theme came on and i answered gladiator, funny times and stuff

  • @jeshopk haha dude you must have a mental issue if you think this music is dumb...

  • Plus Hans Zimmer did scores for both movies, so its not really copying if its by the same dude....

  • Piece of ART! Dot.

Symphonic, epic, FANTASMAGORIC! Awesome as alwazs, H. ZIMMER

  • Putain que je l'aime cette chanson !!

  • It is very similar to the Pirates movies. Mainly because the original Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl soundtrack, which was more or less composed by a one Alan Silvestri, was actually credited to Klaus Badelt, whom is a protege of Hans Zimmer. The soundtrack needed to be done so Badelt had to hastily put it together, hence why some of Zimmer's work is heard in it. Only the second two Pirates films were composed by Zimmer personally.

  • Roma Victrix!!

  • 5:53 pirates of the caribbean lol

    Way to go Hans

  • @starwarsworld Gladiator 1rst

  • @monmon666 I know, just saying that it's the same tune. Way to go Hans for using the same EPIC tune twice, yet two completely different concepts: Gladiator and Pirates lol

  • @starwarsworld check out Blood+ Grand Theme

  • Imma fuck my girl to this song!

  • @Belgiumwaffleofstuff ima fuck your girl to it as well!

  • Maximus is a pirate! :D

  • @ 2.59 is the best

  • ROMANA VICTOR!

  • Brothers, what we do in life... echoes in eternity

  • 9 people got slayed by the Gladiator>>>>>Thumbs up

  • epicness starts here: 05:50

  • 'On my command..unleash HELL'

  • 'what's' said is dust

  • its funny how the (d) and (i) cover his face

  • EXPLOREDIA,com

  • my favorite music soundtrack! Unfortenately 1st, i did not realise that movie is brilliant as well, but after i finally watched - it is hit!(even it is holywood style)

  • I'm italian and today I watched this movie with my english teacher. One of the best movie I've ever seen! Love the soundtrack.

  • 5: 51 Hold The Lines!

  • gladiator is a legend of a film!

  • @lokna come si notano subito gli italiani che parlano inglese...

  • its a good peice of music but the best part of this film is ridley scotts directing

  • awesome music

  • Forget pirates v. gladiator. This music is so close to Gustave Holst's "The Planets" that the Holst Estate sued Zimmer for plagiarism. Anyone who thinks this is "the greatest score ever" has obviously never listened to Alfred Newman, Miklos Rozsa, Erich Korngold or Jerry Goldsmith. Zimmer just isn't in that league.

  • @ruritania07 which planet?

  • @MouseCheese2010 Mars, Bringer of War

  • @ruritania07 thanks!

  • Clear and simple, Hans Zimmer makes the best film music.

  • Comment removed

  • Hans Zimmer''s name will echo in eternity.

  • So similar to his work in Pirates of the Carribean

  • @sukhoisown so?

  • freaky. love this movie. its an epic of the decade

  • BEST SOUNDTRACK EVER!!! :))

  • Dude, Holst rocks.

  • Great song!

  • the most legendary movie ever made by us humans.

  • what an epic track. gives me a shiver down my spine at 5.30!

  • 5:50 is like the best part

  • @allanisfresh yeah its so epic :D the building is also fabulous and then culminates in that fabulous sequence :DDD

  • the movie gladiator + this soundtrack = best combination in the world that cannot be beaten

  • my band director composed a version of the first minute or so for our 250+ member marching band to play in the stands and it sounds amazing

  • WOW. GLADIATOR WAS MADE BEFORE PIRATES, SO CAN EVERYONE STOP GOING ON ABOUT HOW ITS COPIED POTC? Urgh.

  • @fixyouuuu

I don't think it's that similar and Hans Zimmer was involved in the production of the POTC soundtrack, so there is nothing to blame him for. In case it's unclear, I'm on your side! : )

  • @fixyouuuu even before gladiator the song was in the move "The Rock". Hans Zimmer recycles all his songs.

  • @fixyouuuu But Hans Zimmer copied this theme from Gustav Holst who wrote the Planets Suite, part of which is Mars: Bringer of War. Holst wrote The Planets in the early 1900's. Mars: Bringer of War is considered one of the most influential pieces of the 20th Century. Holst's estate sued Zimmer after the release of Gladiator for copyright of the song, and the estate won! If you haven't listened to Mars - do so as it is unforgettable.

  • @fixyouuuu And Gladiator is a far better, far more critically acclaimed and compelling film as POTC, as humorous as they are thanks to Jack.

  • it almost sounds like pirates of the caribbean at the begining

  • Themes and motifs are not copyrighted material. Otherwise there would be no new music. And for the record, composers of the classical, baroque, romantic, and modern eras of concert music 'stole' themes, leitmotifs, and passages from other composers all the time. This is not new, this is not amoral. This is music. Music isn't defined by one chord progression or theme, but the collective nature of the work.

  • just a heads up. Gladiator was actually made three years before Pirates of the Caribean.

  • 06:00 Is the Best part

  • Am I being stupid or does the begininng bit of the song sound very similar to Conquest of Paradise by Vangelis?

Anyways, it is a fab sountrack.

  • Everyone knows that Zimmerman takes serious "influences" from other composers. I'm not saying Pirates, but Holst - Mars, the Bringer of War, anyone? They do compare a little too well...

  • Świetna muzyka, możemy się wczuć w klimat filmu :]

  • Yup This Guy is just good :) What else can we say ?

  • hans zimmer is a legend

  • @lushikichiariCHAN yeah and add the word genius to that description aswell^^

  • I once got laid to this song, true story.

  • @TheBlackB0X haha wtf

  • 8:40 WOW

  • Hans Zimmer composed gladiator and pirates of the Caribbean so stop fighting about people stealing his work or him stealing from others

  • watching the movie on TNT now

  • "Brothers, what we do in life, echoes in eternity!"

  • OH GOD WHY IS MAXIMUS' EYES ON THE DOT OF THE 'I'?!?

    OH....

  • So... I see there's a whole new generation roaming about on this board. I'm talking about the people who were old enough to see POTC in PG theatres in 2003 but missed out on the bloody goodness that was "Gladiator" three years prior? The same people that come here today and proclaim that OMG WTF THIS SOUNDS LIKE PIRATES?!!!!

Zimmer were never original, but "Gladiator" came first, damn it! End of discussion, kids, and read the previous posts (and get off my lawn while you're at it)!

  • Roma victor!

  • nao tem nd a ver

  • I've realized that a lot of the movies and movie soundtracks I like....Hans Zimmer seems to be involved in it!!

  • IRO previous comments, I have no problem with 'sounding like .. '

Yes, I agree that there is a Hans Zimmer 'signature' to everything he does. Zimmer's music is a major part of my enjoyment of the film.

For me, that's the essence of a great film sountrack.

'Easy money'? - I doubt it!

  • 7 people are totally deaf or stupid

  • @SeXeHRD Yes this is what most people will call music, however, don't forget that this a is a film soundtrack made specifically for a film. No, this is not computer generated. It is composed by quite a large orchestra with some minor computer invovlments. But none the less, all of the musicians you listed can produce music that provide such an Epic, energetic and heroic theme as this. I mean, for example, just listen at 5:52.

  • @SeXeHRD correction: all the musicians you listed -CAN'T- produce etc...

  • @SeXeHRD computer generated?

  • Actually, I think the first minute is the best of all...

  • 8:35 is the best

  • does anyone else think many of the motifs/themes in this piece are similar to Holst's The Planets Op. 32? namely Mars, the bringer of war

  • @aslanov He used thematic material from the score and certain motifs.

For which the Holst estate does not get a penny.

  • 05:53 to 06:10 is the best part in the whole song.

  • FUCK THOSE WHO GIVE -6 to this song!! FUCK THEM!!!

  • @TibianBotter

Damn straight man, they should be executed

  • This music is as good as all the film!!!

  • mighty music

  • the beginning is the best part

  • i love the part of the guitar at 1:35

  • @azerothblood

yeaaaaaa makes it way fukin better

  • Rome is the light that iluminates the world roma a victor

  • I love this music!

  • @Hodideldiho its Hans Zimmers signature

most composers used the same style

so you know its them that made it

and just for the record pirate of the Caribbean sounds like the gladiator score

  • @moviescores1 Hans Zimmer composed both pieces >_>;

  • @moviescores1 Yeah. Just what's terrible about it is that 90% of working film composers sound just like indistinguishable clones of Hans Zimmer.

  • @RogueRotting360 Or Thomas Newman.

  • @moviescores1 yeah, the battlefield sounds very similar to pirates of the carribian. loads of people say it when i play it

  • @moviescores1 It's weird though, because Klaus Badelt used this theme in Pirates before Zimmer took over...

  • @RockleShmocks this theme wasnt used in Gladiator and Klaus Badelt had his name to the Pirates Of The Caribbean Score

but he worked side by side with Hans Zimmer

they both had a hand in the project

  • @moviescores1

Both themes are based off of Mars from the Planets suit and that is why they sound similiar

  • @RockleShmocks

the bits that sound the same are all from zimmer....

  • @Hodideldiho loooooool hahahahahahahahahahhaha! dude Hans Zimeer is easilly the G R E A T E S T music composer in the world and he has never copied anything that was not his! plus pirates of carribean come out a 'bit' later than Gladiator!

Next time, think before saying things on the people you dont know, cause you may just show everyone how ignorant and stupid you are :)

    take care ^^

  • @Hodideldiho

That doesnt make sense because Gladiator came out in 2000

and pirates came out in 2003.

If anything the pirates theme is copied of of The gladiator

  • @Hodideldiho Yeah it's Hans Zimmer 's signature. He's one of the best composers man . It's not the same it's just the same rythms but not the same instrument . It's like Williams in one of the them of Star Wars and Indiana Jones.

  • @Hodideldiho

It's not only that this song is older than the pirates one, but also it's way better.

  • @Hodideldiho LOL.

1 Pirates of the Caribbean came out 3 years later

2 The music is composed by the same person.

3 A lot of people use that chord progression and theme in a lot of songs

4 Everyone who uses that theme "Knows how to make some money" because that basic theme is Inspired by the song Mars from The Planets by Gustav Holst

5 PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN CAME OUT 3 YEARS LATER

Next time research before putting out a less than useful argument

  • @Hodideldiho lol. Its funny to say that he earns easy money when he is using same style for 2mins of 10mins which is without including this far different.

  • @Hodideldiho I know, that's the reason why i listen to this song

  • @Hodideldiho of course he does, he copycats various bits from his own musik from one film to another lol

  • @Hodideldiho

you sir are an ignorant, this film is older than pirates of shit

  • @Hodideldiho

erm... gladiator (2000) was filmed after POC [black pearl] (2003)...

  • @Hodideldiho This movie was made before Pirates of the Caribbean so...

  • @Hodideldiho how can that be? as gladiator was released BEFORE pirate's of the carrabean.

  • @Hodideldiho LOL hahahaha

    Gladiator came out on 2000

Pirates of the caribean 2003...Mmmm you are pretty dumb

  • @Hodideldiho

damn bro u da owner of the vid corrected and got +50 holy shit

and just to let u kno, gladiator came out in 2000, and pirates of c. in 2003.

so its not easy money, he had to go all the way in the future to copy it, and thats hard.

    fucking dumbass lol

  • @Hodideldiho lol zimmer did the score for lion king as well and its nothing like this (he won an oscar with both movies) so there goes the theory for easy money

Second of all this movie is better than pirates in everything specially when it comes to soundtrack ;-)

  • @Hodideldiho "well it seems this guy knows how to make easy money"

Inception, The Dark Knight, The Pirates of the Caribbean, Sherlock Holmes, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, The Rock, Broken Arrow, Crimson Tide... just to name a few. Hanz has composed over 100 titles, ranging from movie soundtracks to TV and video documentaries. The guy has earned the right to use his music when and wherever he sees fit..... over a hundred compositions is hardly "easy".

  • 0-2 oh nooooooooo

  • 5:53 awesomeness!

  • 6:39- ROMA VICTOR!!!!!

  • 5:54 = best part easy!

  • 6:26 - 7:01

  • favorit part is 05:54 <3

  • This score was epic. This entire soundtrack was epic. THIS MOVIE WAS FREAKING EPIC!

  • EPIC!!!

  • from 00.01 to 0.25 : does the music exist in another movie? what's the name?

  • @lou9259

It might be Armageddon. I'm not sure but that's what it sounds like.

  • Gotta be one of the best movie music ever, not unusual as one of the best movies ever

  • Pirates of the Caribbean anyone?

  • @BillsFan716 he composed it so even if they are very similar doesnt matter

  • This music is worth nothing without the motion picture, but the two make an awesome composition :)

  • VITA EST MILITIA

  • Elle est magnifique cette bande son!!!!

  • From 5:53 to the end is just incredible. Perfect image of battle!

  • 5:50 so epic

  • i love it!!!

  • This arrangement is a valzer of death..Masterpiece of pathos.

  • Sounds like Pirates of the Caribean

  • @JoReLiStar reverse, POTC sounds like this, this film is older

  • Love this movie. Gives me chills every time I watch it. Music drives the movie.

  • I like the part between 4.11-4.21 :-)

  • i can cut any part from 00 to 10:00 in any order... and send it to you if you want it... all i ask in return is that you look at my videos :D

    thanks

  • At my command, unleash hell

    Are you not entertained?

  • @embran well the rock score was made by hans zimmer who also made this

the rock score is a great piece of music i have uploaded that soundtrack also

    check my channel for more

  • this composition is a mixture of "the rock theme" and "last of the mohicans theme"

  • 5.53 best bit

  • go gladiator!

  • Maximus! Maximus! Maximus!

  • The bass trombonist must be an absolute beast. The sound he gets out of it is totally amazing - for example 6:53 - 6:57 . I bought the CD off Amazon, and with the bass of my CD player, it's even better!

  • Senatus PopulusQue Romanus! Omnipotentis est!

  • potk sounds different to me, and i am happy about that;)

  • That gives me the creeps. 4:11 and 5:55 Wowy!!

  • ROMA VICTOR!

  • it should be Roma Victrix, cause Roma is a female name :)

  • strength and honor !

  • 4.12 <3<3

  • "The Battle" is like "The Battle" in Pirates of Carrabien..This is a longer song then that in the Pirates..At the Pirates starts from 5:55..I love this..Huge fan

  • Dont forget The Rock, which was before both. I also love Hans Zimmer, but the repeat theme is a little old if year after year it just sounds like "The Rock Theme" no matter what movie you are watching. Black Hawk down is my fav theme of his, but even in that you can here parts of his repeated music.

  • This came first so Pirates is like this.
