  • Can someone say GENTRIFICATION!

  • Yep, they fail to show people the $350,000 + price of the new buildings. Police now patrol the area deep to protect the rich white folks that are now living down there. I even seen a white lady walkin her dog down there without any fear :-0 The plan is to open that area up to the 'upper' middle class folk so they can be close there work downtown instead of livin large 30miles away in the suburbs. This is present day gentrification...like Furious was talkin about...lol

  • i hate to be negative, but anyone of any race bill think differently about eachothers incomes and families 4 the next 100 years.hopefully we will all be same skin color by then. i do like how the cities r thinking positive and trying to make mixed neighborhoods though. Its just hard 2 do that in big cities though, we r not that far from the mid 20th century yet.

  • there starting to build and already they have built alot of condoes near the UC and near western and madison etc

  • the good times will return at the cabrini green

  • Good times? meaning murders and little innocent kids being terroized?

  • Chitown, you sound very ignorant. You are a disgrace to the black human race. Why would you get on here and brag about selling crack to pregnant people and urinating on the elevator. It shows you don't have respect for yourself. Change your life around, get an education and learn to respect people.

  • Actually it shows that your a retard for even beliving me I'm a Jew who lives in the Edgewater neighborhood it shows how stupid you are for not get geting the joke when I wrote "no pride" and "no respect" damn you suck

  • You shouldn't joke like this so actually you're the retard who has no respect and you suck. Get a life you idiot!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • laughter is the best medicene, maybe youshouldn't be such a queero sexual

  • Comment removed

  • ChiTownFOOL alright. Acting like ur livin there. U probably live in DuPage out in Wheaton. You'd piss yourself driving past Cabrini and duck down like a bitch ...I know many like you. Selling crack! You'd be smokin it to write what you wrote. You make ajoke out of something very serious. Lots of people lost their homes but you wouldn't get that livin out in the burbs. Go back to WNHS and be 'gangsta' there. They'll believe your stories, they're naive enough to believe anything, THUG!

  • l live Uptown on Wilson fool

  • cambridge av baby!!!

  • I use to walk up those stairs for many years when I was an Investigator for the Department of Corrections. It was a beautiful view but very difficult to get in. I have to admit now that I look back, it was a scary thing. But I was never bothered. I was always okay, except I would never go there at night.

  • that one lady seemed like a good person and everything, nut u gotta do whats best for your family.

  • oh boy, we'll see how great this experiment turns out. they thought cabrini was a real great idea when they first built them, and look what happened.

  • So, she'd rather her and her "kids" dodge bullets, than move, just because she wants to be around people she know... no comments!

  • was it an old joke?

    report something BETTER!

  • They tried mixed communities in New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Puerto Rico but it didn't work. The kids from poor families ended up committing so many crimes (robberies, burglaries, rapes, murders, etc) and the public claimed for a police state. America is not like India, the poor and the rich hate each other and can't live side by side.

  • they tried a mixed income high rise development down town chicago it's called the presidential towers it's a very nice building on Madison the thing is they slowly evicted or refused to renew the leases of the people on susbidesed housing and now the rent is like $1,200 a month for a little studio thats whats gona happen in these places

  • I never thought of that; that's really interesting.

Presidential Towers was in financial trouble from the start; that may have had something to do with its move away from public housing. It seems Cabrini might meet the same fate if it too goes way over budget.

  • This kind of mixed housing system has been implemented in many UK towns, especially in London. I live in a mixed neighbourhood, which is very diverse and it seems to work quite well. So it might work. I do love the sound of the area names that DamNationDiplomat mentions: state street, 31st and state...

  • this won't be good enough either.

  • Just south of North Ave and just west of Wells. Especially the big buildings at North, Clyborn, Halsted.

  • What's the adress? I lived in chicago up until yesterday, and that doesn't look like the northside to me, i saw a very similar project on state street, south side, about 31st and state.

  • Halsted and Division
