  • @ZKJonathan I am like a ship that, agitated (Son qual nave ch'agitata)

by many rocks among the waves, (da più scogli in mezzo all'onde)

gets confused and, scared, (si confonde e, spaventata,)

sails in the middle of the sea, (va solcando in alto mar,)

but when sees the beloved shore (ma in veder l'amato lido)

    leaves the waves (lascia l'onde)

and the perfidious wind (e il vento infido)

and goes to the port to rest. (e va in porto a riposar.)

  • très beau, very beautiful

  • I´m looking for a score for this aria - i have one, but this is another version...Help - where can I buy it?

  • Thank you adding this!

  • I like this parts : 0:49 - 1:20 , 3:33 - 4:00

  • .............i think he shud never sing this aria..or any arias that bartoli sang coz he seems like a kid next to her now..no power..no feelings..no technique...why is he so soft..:S :S

  • @zulfakarz Who should never sing this aria? Derek Lee Ragin? HE sounds like a kid in comparison with Bartoli? Or what are you talking about?

  • Vraiment bravo je suis stupefaite!!! belle technique!!!!!

  • Anyone knows where I can find the score of this song?

  • The idea of a so-called "refined" audience is a very modern idea. It was only in the time of Wagner that the audience was first expected to sit in the dark and to be silent during an opera. In Handel and Broschi's day a reaction from the audience (good or bad) was expected and anticpated.

  • Watching the movie I did not understand what Händel meant when he dispised Farinelli for singing his brother´s inferior operas. After, I did not understand Farinelli when he accused is brother of prefering fancy quantity instead of aiming for the pure art of quality.

After hearing this song I understand both. Can you hear the senseless playfulness in which this wonderous voice is merely wasted. Listen to "Lascia Chio Pianga" he sung at the end and you will understand too.His voice is angelic

  • @Nachtwandler1978 Do not be fooled. "Son qual nave" is an "aria d'agitata" and provides very important musical support to the whole dramatic piece. The "senseless" and "wasteful" passages and scales represent the power of winds and waves of an agitated sea - Broschi and others (Vivaldi, and Handel, too) all use these as musical tools. On the other hand, "Lascia" is a totally different type of aria, the one that conveys pathos, and hence must be simplistic. The movie compares apples to oranges.

  • Who are the preformers?

  • Thnx for having posted the whole track! I agree with pianistofbabylone: In the film it llooks like if the english public had never been in a concert!

  • @maxotti: Unfortunately "the English" are not alone with this problem. Go to the opera today and you will find people dressed up like anything but still they will clap and stamp after every syllable or song a singer utters. Unrefined audience is very common.

  • Farinelli's voice heard here (from the sountrack of the movie) was sung by soprano (a woman) Ewa Godlewska.....fabulous singing!

  • virtuoso!

  • Wonderful!!!

    Briliantly Composed.

Anyone knows where i can find d Score?

  • I can help. Send me a private message with your email address.

    chris...

  • pls someone tellme the composer.

    Sounds like Vivaldi to me.

  • the composer is Riccardo Broschi (Farinelli's older brother)

  • Endlich ohne den bekloppten Applaus, danke vielmals!

  • Amazing... even being the digitally recorded stuff you can see how complex the music and vocals were.

Anyone happen to have the lyrics?

  • Son qual nave ch'agitata

da piu scogli in mezzo all'onde

    si confonde e spaventata

va sol cando in alto mar

    Ma in veder l'amato

    lido lascia l'onde,

    e il vento infido

e va in porto a riposar

  • Thanks !

  • Muchas gracias por la letra!!!!!!!!

    Chile.

  • @AdelioAltomar I think it is "solcando"
