That was so SAD!!! I am sitting here in tears!!! I haven't been able to find season 3 any of the usual places. PBS put on seasons 1 and 2 but not three and I haven't found season 3 on youtube or the library, so i have/had only rumours for my authority. This is so sad!! :(
Robin was also an arrogant jerk and, as season 3 proved, had been one ever since he was a child. He would have let Guy hang for some showing off HE did, for God's sake. Personally, I was made to root for the bad guys simply because Robin was just so irritating as a character. But then again, Marian was a cold manipulative bitch and I felt so sorry for Guy when she kissed him as a distraction. He really cared for her, stayed behind to protect her and Nottingham etc.
Meg's perfect for Guy. Firstly, she's so much smarter than Marian. The silly bitch couldn't see what a perfect man she had in Guy. Robin, the creepy stalker, was always lurking somewhere around the corner when Marian and Guy were kissing. Guy, after finding out that Marian is the Night Watchman, tried to save her from execution, while Robin told her to drop the whole business, stay at home and do her embroidery. Guy tried to accept her for who she was, which is something Robin never really did.
I agree with the bunch here that wanted Meg to live a little longer, but hey, what are fanfictions for if not that?
And why isn't there a show where the annoying hero is killed off and the bad guy gets the girl and happy ending? Sure, there are fanfictions, but since there are so many, why can't someone make film or a TV series without the predictable "good guy and bad guy want the same, the bad guy dies, the good guy gets a happy ending"?!
@BellaSheep Watch the story arc of "Lost" where Jack is the good guy but annoying, and Kate is the prize but annoying, Sawyer is the bad guy who eventually turns good he gets Kate out of her pity for him just once but then he becomes a good guy and meets Juliette. In many ways Sawyer becomes a better man than Jack. Sawyer and Gisbourne have much in common and are favorite characters of mine I have to wonder whether the writers of both shows were influenced by one another.
These scenes show the side of Guy that I absolutly love. He is such a complex character and that makes him so much more realistic I guess but also so much more aluring.
It totally sucked when Meg got stabbed and died. Guy finally found someone he loved and who loved him in return. They were so great together, and then she just dies! :(
What's even sadder is that the way Marian died is the same way Meg does. But Meg died, taking the wound for Guy. Marian did it for someone she didn't love, just someone who was politically important. Meg also didn't hurt anyone in death. Marian practically destroyed Guy. I don't get why Guy didn't mention Meg in his final moments..maybe he was thinking about all the bad things he did in his life.
Good point about the similarities. I was also thinking it was strange with his death. I mean, after all, she did seem to MEAN something to him, but noo, no mention. Was she really just a big plot device to remind him of Marian? :( Or, did the writers of the finale just happen to conveniently forget Meg? Or was Guy too busy with dying to remember her? Either way, his inevitable death ("he killed people, therefore he must die himself to show kiddies killing is bad") sucked.
Meg was a step towards Guy's redemption. Still..she was the perfect person for guy. I think Guy was not only in love with Marian, he also lusted after her. Maybe that's why he was so crushed. I wish Meg hung around for more episodes.
The one thing that captivated me about guy was his complexity. He wasn't just some goody-goody character or some sadistic villain. He had many conflicting emotions.
Again, I very much agree with you. :) Personally, I think Guy was the only three-dimensional character on the show. The rest seemed too much like cardboard cut-outs. I don't know how much is down to the writing and how much is actually just down to the actor, but judging from the scripts in general, I'd say most of Guy's complexity is because of Richard Armitage's brilliant performance. Played by someone else, Guy probably wouldn't have stood out either.
Richard Armitage was excellent. He understood his own character more than BBC did. You know he WANTED Guy to be killed off. He said that added more to his character and I agree with him (and you).
Robin and Marian were boring characters. I wish modern fiction had more characters and antiheroes like Guy.
Oh gods yes! Marian was a cruel and manipulative b*tch. Then again, Robin was a cocky and annoying twerp, so I suppose they made a good couple those two. :]
Your part one and part two of this are great. It's like watching a Guy/Meg episode without any interruptions. I loved that. I didn't have to fast forward through the other parts of the episode. You have it all nicely cut together here. Bravo
Thanks, glad you liked it. To be able to watch it without interruptions is why I did it. Who cares about all the other bits of the episode? *giggle* The only bit I skipped was where Meg steals the keys off Isabella, but that didn't seem important for the rest of the story. Well, and it doesn't have Guy in it. ;)
Meg is the most awful actress I've ever seen. She doesn't react to anything, and there were plenty of moments that called fro extreme emotion. On the other hand, Guy of Gisborne is finally beginning to win me over.
What are you talking about. The girl who plays meg is an amazing actress. When guy starts to talk about marian , meg's character is sooo amazing. I thnk she's a really good actress and it seems like most "hoodies" agree with me. Even if you dislike her she's no worse than Kate who is, in my opinion, the WORST actor in the whole world!!!!
Oh my God, that is about the most romantic and tragic thing I've ever had to watch. I honestly think that Meg could have been the real love of his life. Poor Guy. I'm definitely a fan. I think the way he cries after she dies is really sweet, though. I kind of enjoy watching sad moments like this... it brings out the soft side of people's characters.
I just have one question: why was Robin Hood there, and why did he save him? I thought he hated Guy, especially after Marian.
Robin saved guy because guy talked about how meg didn't desevre to die and robin saw a side to guy he didn't know and actually agreed with him. It's all in the script if you listen really carefully.
I loved Guy in the last 2 series but I lost a little of my passion for him during this 3 season... but I just loved this episode and this couple. It's a while I want someone to show that there's good in Guy.
I have never been a fan of Guy but this pairing was just phenomenal, completely changed my view of him and his possibilities. What the hell were the writers' thinking killing her?
I think they just wanted a plot point. A way of showing Guy in a new light, like "oh look, there IS good in him after all!" (since when has any Guy fans ever doubted?) and I think it is to set him up to have some kind of redemption. Probably even setting him up to somehow join forces with RH - seeing as how it was RH who saved them from death. Just speculating, but we'll see how it pans out! But yeah, they definitely should've kept Meg! >:(
Who else is going to be able to say that they loved Richard Armitage before he was Thorrin? Raise your hands! *My hand is raised to the sky*

@BellaSheep It was seeming like it would go like that in Dr. Horrible, but alas, even Joss Whedon has his faults.

They should have had a scene where Guy and Meg were reuntied. That would have been even more touching then Robin and Marian's reunion.
