If you Google web search "planned kosovo war" you can read an article about the U.S. involvement in Bosnia. I picture what's happening in Georgia as being just as complicated. Ossetia is actually an independent region, from russia and Georgia. After the USSR colapsed the state of Georgia appeared on the map, they aquired new teritory, and they were supposed to give a referendum to all the regions with in Georgia, but they didn't.
Ossetians have Russian passports because they always had them in the USSR.

False Flag operation anyone? Georgia may have been provoked into responding to seperatists streetfights in the last few weeks, but I remember hearing reports of a troop build up by both Russian and Georgians a few months ago, when Russia knocked out that Georgian drone (and denied it). Since then both sides have had itchy fingers. The Georgians should have practised restraint no-matter how hard the Russians teased them into this fight. Now the Russians have got what they planned albeit sooner.

Amade 1980, It is being presented that the Georgian military attacked South Ossetia which is a region in their own Country. Then Russia responded militarily to protect the Ossetians (many of which are Russian citizens). If you think it is propaganda (because Russia has used propaganda in the past), what do you think is really going on?

Amade1980, I haven't formed a solid opinion, yet. Some things don't make sense. I think foreign policy decisions have a lot of forces behind them that we never know about. If you Google web search "planned kosovo war" you can read an article about the U.S. involvement in Bosnia. I picture what's happening in Georgia as being just as complicated. I live in the USA and our current administration with a complicit congress seems to be as destabalizing to the world as the old Soviet Union.

Artillery bombardment all the day long proceeded, fights with use of tanks and heavy combat material, both against ossetic armies, and against peace inhabitants were conducted.

The truth is that Russia is "showing off" ...Poland also - since we are a member in E.U. These days.... and it's not only Poland since last couple years that Russia is "missing".....Georgia is going thru changes like Poland was(not only Poland) just before we became a part of a E.U. - this is also a "signal" to E.U. and NATO to stop spreading authorities in some regions...threat is WWIII...answer is "delicate"...even USA steps back - batrayal for Georgias help in Irak?

If so, how do think that the Russian government should have responded considering that half the Ossetia population is Russian citizens (or so I heard reported)? It seems to be more of a response to a military action than showing off.

Ossetia is actually an independent region, from russia and Georgia. After the USSR colapsed the state of Georgia appeared on the map, they aquired new teritory, and they were supposed to give a referendum to all the regions with in Georgia, but they didn't.
Ossetians have Russian passports because they always had them in the USSR.
