does anybody have the dummy song by lou monte please post!!!i can only find it of lou armstong and my grandfather used to sing it to me all the time would love to here the orginal
Fantastic song. We just had my mother's 86th birthday party on Monday (June 20th) and they played this. She knew the words, too and even danced to the song. Per 'cent anni, ma.
YUP, THIS IS MY SONG...IM LAZY MARY!!!! THE FAMILY EVEN TRIED TO MARRY ME OFF TO A FIREMAN???? I PASSED--BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE...LOL!!!!! ITALIANS AND MARRIAGE....LIKE PEANUT BUTTER AND JELLY!!!
I was in the olive oil business with his father, but that was a long time ago......the man from the FBI says" were gonna make up some thing s about Michael Corleone". I said " allright!"
I honestly cant take this song seriously. I'm italian, so dont take this the wrong way, but i listen to it and i cant help but just break out in laughter....
@peabear9 Didn't you hear him? "For you nice ladies and gentlemen who don't understand the Eyetalian language, I'm going to do two choruses in British"
lou sings this song in the old sicilian dialect not standard italian. this is the dialect our grandpa spoke. if you go to italy they call you a mountain person (hick) and tell you to speak italian or english because they dont understand the old greenie dialect anymore. when our cousin from sicily comes to visit he still understands the old dialect but he doesnt speak much english guess ill have to learn italian when i go visit him in palermo
@Wonka275 thats a bit condescending. im italian and proud, but regardless of your heritage or nationality, in essence we all value the same things. all cultures know how to get together, have a good time, and eat great food!
@dukewayne91 True that, I didn't mean to encroach on any other cultures, I'm just saying I'm proud of the all the unique fun I have in my Italian-American family.
i luv di song i always here dis song at italian weddings ans my uncle play dis song in da car when we take trips 2 italy i luv da north end in italy even though im from da south end i like da north end 2 but italy is beautiful any part u go at least i live by little italy here in new york
Who doesnt love being Italian? We are the cultural bastion of Europe, pioneers in Science and Art, yet, in many places, still steeped in our folk heritage.
We all love being Italian! Its a shame our heritage is being assimilated into our adopted land.
@celtoantico Being Italian and growing up in the Italian part of Boston, there's nothing better then being at a summer Feast and hearing these songs blasting through all the streets lit with festive lights and the aroma of all that wonderful food. Viva Italiana!
I LOVE the Italian north end, i used to take trips down there all the time when I lived in Maine, i'm from New jersey and it was like a taste of home!
It's a great place to live and still capture the Italian culture and traditions that we all grew up with. It's still safe enough to stroll down Hanover Street at 2AM, and mingle with the regulars that are outside all the Coffee Cafe's....It's your turn now to be popular with that new show "JERSEY SHORE"! Do you like that show??
I don't know how i feel about that show, I've never seen it, but i hear a lot of NJ people don't like it for some reason or another. A lot of people don't like us and lable us bad things, but I came from a very classy NJ Italian family. Everyone thinks we're mafia, but most are not. There's a lot of good people there, too, all you hear about is the bad. I live in Scotland, now because i met my man online, so they don't show it over here, but i'll look it up online and see what it says.
I hear you about stereotyping, I get it all the time at work from non-Italians. These men grab their crotch and with their other hand make a fist and shake it like I guess they see Italians do and at the same time they say "Hey forgetabbout it"! I ignore them cause if they see it bothering you they do it more and forget about bringing it to anyone's attention, as they send them to a bogus "sensitivity class"! Sometimes I wish Tony Soprano was a real person.
Thank you, thank you Jose, for the Italian lyrics!I taped this song from a "Music of your life" station many years ago, played it over and over trying to capture the lyrics. This goes on my "Favorites" list thanks to you!
It's true, my family's mostly from Milano and Taino and were very prejudiced of southern Italians when I was growing up. Dunno, how widespread the prejudice is nowadays though.
Here's my shot at translating. Some of the dialect is hard to translate for me though "There's a moon in the middle of the sea, "Mother, I'm getting married" "My daughter who to give you to?" "Mother take care of it" "If the fisherman gets you" "He'll go, he'll come" "He'll always have the fish in his hand" "If you have the fantasy, he'll fish(?) you my daughter (my girl)" "la lariula, fried fish and baccala" "hey companion, no calamari something haha"
good memories growing up in an italian home..i cry when i hear this thinking of granmma and granmpa from naples..so proud,i miss them! be proud of your heritage..pladahitzz!!!
My Dad used to have a radio show and he played only Italian music. People still tell me how much they loved listening to dad and hear him singing along with the different songs. Thank you for a most wonderful and welcome memory of my Dad who we lost over 30 years ago. We're still here Dad, smiling every time we hear an old Italian folk song like this.
My grandpa used to have a radio station like that...he was an Italian immigrant, and he used to babysit me from the ages of 1-4...I having so many memories of the two of us singing along to these songs!

Indeed, there are some biases within Italy as there are in many countries such as the US of A.
Southerners tend to think differently than those from Northern States.
BTW, the "British" segments of this song have no relation to the Italian.
