The game can be as simple as checkers, but when you play it at a high level it can be more complex than chess because of the "DICE" He references how the dice where made of bones, so the dice are responsible for moving light and good around until one side wins.
Here's what I think- Lost was never supposed to run as long as it did, it was supposed to be something like 3 seasons long. Then the TV bosses insisted it run longer because it was such a success. So, here Locke is telling Walt about who he REALLY is. In this episode the MIB has already taken over his dead body. He is playing a huge game of backgamon with Jacob already. Then this got side lined when Lost really took off and the MIB took over his dead body a few seasons later.
I agree and the fact that we don't get to hear what the secret is makes me wonder even more. I definitely feel that this is way too coincidental for Locke himself to be saying that; the original intent must be that the MIB had already taken over his body or had influence on him in some way.
@DrearierSpider the secret he tells Walt is about how he was in a wheelchair before the crash. Walt later tells Michael, in the same episode, that Locke told him a miracle happened to him.
I know some people are making jokes about Locke being white and Walt being black, but I had a thought:
Yes, it clearly foreshadows Jacob / MiB, but it also foreshadows Locke being impersonated by MiB and Walt ending up assisting the new protector (who ends up being Hurley) - FLocke = Dark, Walt = Light
When I first saw Locke in this scene and heard him speak his lines, I thought to myself, "This guy knows something." I know I can connect with him in different ways.
When Locke is talking about how old the game of backgammon is, he is metaphorically speaking about the fact that good and evil forces have existed forever, even before the birth of Christ. And, they will always exist.
@PeterEhik understandable but it is a time for "Are you smarter than a fith grader" marathon question round and then theres a time for him to be quiet, i mean im happy that he did ask certain questions but when you ask so many as to become annoying you have to be quiet at some point...
@Delibird13 I guess you don't have any kids, do you? I myself don't have no kids but I am the firstborn of my parents and I have 3 younger sisters, one of which I'm older than with close to 17 years so I know a lot about kids and trust me they get to this age when they ask any and every question, like once my little sister, about 7 years old at the time, asked me what a condom was, something like what is it used for? lol So kids will ask any and every question and I think that's what Walt did.
No wonder Walt took a liking to Locke.. he's FREAKING awesome! Best character in the whole show!!! Other fav characters are Michael, Mr. Eko and Miles.
@GanstaBigshot24 I like Sawyer and Hurley too. I think the writers gave Michael the worst story arc in the whole series in season 4. Such a waste of time and all that hype about him coming back just to appear in 4 episodes and blow up!!!??! Screw that! Michael is still one of my fav characters because of Harold Perrineau's acting. I liked him the most in HBO's OZ as Augustus Hill.
@dragonsflame35 Its cool if Michael is your fav characters. But Like I said I did not like him before they found him on the boat. I did not like the fact that he killed 2 great characters Ana Lucia and Libby. Ana Lucia was a bitch at times but she didn't deserve to die. If Michael hadn't handled matters in his own hand. He would not have been captured and be forced to do something like that. His friends were all willing to help him. He was so stupid, I don't like him at all in this show.
@GanstaBigshot24 Check out Harold Perrineau in OZ... don't be afraid of the show.. if you can't take all the ADULT stuff in it.. you don't deserve to watch it.. That's what creator Tom Fontana says.. As for Michael, I can understand people not liking him. It is a shame he had to do what he did... They mainly did it because of Malcolm David Kelley growing up really fast... of course they could have done something else
The island is the board where the MIB and Jacob use the candidtes as the pieces like a giant backgammon game. They cannot kill them themself because they have to be killed by other players/pieces on the board. At least thats what I think.
"One is light...One is dark..." And that's exactly what this season is winding down to.
Except, well, I personally think that neither side is "good" or "evil," simply "light" or "dark" and both have positive and negative motivations, etc.
But that's just me. LOST has, up until now, been very clear about how everyone has the potential for good and bad in them and that everything is shades of grey. I'd like to hope it concludes with that.
This leads me to believe Locke was MIB in this scene at least, not the real john locke. When he speaks of ancient times he speaks as though he was there.
The writers didn't know EXACTLY where they were going from the start, they had a general idea, but it wasn't totally planned. As the series went on, they wrote according to what they had already shown, in order to fit things together.
@nonameddog We don't know what was said but most people suspect Locke told Walt that the Island is a place where miracles happen and that it cured him, meaning he could walk again.
Made of bones eh! Ive just wikied Mesopotamia. What a great show! (btw there has been racism for thousands of years so and its in the bible, -its nothing new!) but people must have been clever back then (all/both sides/races!).?
I wonder if it's a clue too that in this scene one guy is white and the other is black.....OOOOH RACIST UNDERTONES!!!!
also the older couple who was always fighting each other the husband was white and wife was black, maybe thats a clue too.....OOOOH THIS RACISM IS KILLIN ME INSIDE!!!
The secret? They "JUST" tell everyone in the FIRST episode what the six seasons of the serie are about....... "Two players, two sides... One is light.... One is dark...."........ Jacob maybe is the light and the monster a.k.a. the enemy is the dark....
@LeleMorrison It's defiantly foreshadowing. The secret Locke was referring to though, was that he was in a wheel chair, the fact that he could walk on the island.
They weren't referring to the secret of the scene, 'Do you want to know a secret' had to do with the fact of the miracle that he could walk.
@gelfling12345 You find out that Locke tells Walt he was in a wheelchair and could now walk on the island, he tells his dad a miracle happened to Mr. Locke.
Looking at the first season now, it feels funny that the writers basically told everyone what was happening on the island from the start but, still, nobody really got it.
Yeah I've been thinking of this scene for a while now. And its always been a recurring theme in Lost mythos, but even then we don't really know who Jacob is to quickly call him good... People are so quick to think they have it mapped out already, that its that easy..
jacob is god the black smoke is the devil and the island is the way station were people go to se if they are good enough to go to heacen or evil enough to go to hell oops hope i didnt spoil it but so many people want to know
i thought of this scene last night after watching the season 6 premiere and I think walt will have to be the one to take down Jacob's nemesis....(aka locke's body)
i guess it wasn't Walt. It was the island causing these illusions and pulling the strings because if u had noticed each time he showed up there would be a consequence of events
and to back it up, remember Mr.Ecko's brother? just lured him to his death. its fucked up i know
Mr. Echo was the Smoke Monster. It's also possible that Walt since he's special, that the smoke monster could have been him too. The smoke too is also said to have been Jack's dead (Which I dont' believe). And Alex, Ben's daughter. The smoke monster can take the form of people who died on the island. Yemi (Echo's brother) died on the island.
Walt told Michael that the secret was something about that what happened to all of the people from the Oceanic was a miracle, but I belivie its something else, something that has not been told yet
I think these scene has alot to do with the whole shows mysterys.
In season 1, when Claire has a nightmare, she sees John in the jungle, with one eye black, and another one white.
Then, Jack and Kate discovers two bodies by the caves, inside on of thems jacket they found one little black stone, and one white.
In the final of Season 5, light blonde Jacob sits on the beach with a white shirt on him, beside him sits a unknown man with black hair and a dark shirt on him.
@pedrosbikeiscool I thought it made sense, I just didn`t like what it was getting at. I loved the whole series ACCEPT the last episode where they explained everything! Pissed me off it did. They should reshoot the last season, I agree. Still, to me, LOST will go down as my absolute favourite show out of any old or new show. I can`t wait until they remake it in 40 years... like they do to all those old movies and shows.
I think eko shoose at the end not the way lock wanted, and therefore must die, remember lock got saved from alot of weird forces, at the end eko had still questions and had more then once a chance to shoose the side of the island, but he was to much a treat and therefore he must be eliminated, TBH if i meet this person at night irl i would fear him also :)

Who says dark = evil? Walt is 'dark', but he isn't exactly a bad guy.
