Morganza gates and Old River gates are dams. If they weren't there the water would be going out the Atchafalaya basin anyway. Folks living there know this. Correction - Yes, Morganza will flood, but so will the entire Atchafalaya Basin and possibly Morgan City. man im so sorry to hear that brother, up here in illinois they had to blow up three levees down south, and flooded about 200,000 Acres in missouri to save the town of Cairo about 2 hours south of me, they actually had to open flood gates on many Lake Dams around here.and the flood gates have never been opened..REND lake near me,water was flowing over the top of the whole dam..its a major disaster for all of us on the Mississippi and Ohio river.stay safe Brother! hope evrything is OK for you!!!
