the timing chain oiler has nothing to do with the chain breaking if the chain had 220k miles on it that would be the reason y i have ha my 02 for ever not it now has 430k miles on it and i had to change the timing chain at 250k miles because it got old and stretched out because of age but i have never hurd of a timing chain breaking because of lack of oil the timing chain dont need hardly any oil to stay lubed the timing chain need to be replaced on a cavalier at 200k miles that what GM says
@grandamracer23 Only one thing makes me jealous of a Cavalier Driver... They save money on brakes. Seeing how it's so slow they only have to open the door and stick a foot out to stop.
@MonsterEnergy73 second gen cavs had a decent amount of torque besides why are you commenting/viewing on an ecotec vid if you hate "slow" cars?? shouldn't you be viewing maros and stangs??
Ok guys quit arguing on my account. After some research the reason I had failure is because 2002 model of the ecotec is the first year Gm used them and it had flaws. The timing chain oilers failed in the 02 model and were redesigned for the 03-05 years and then some. So I know it would still be running to this day if the chain didn't fail on me. So it was a design problem. Everyone that has 02 ecotecs reguardless of cavy sunfire alero etc they all will snap the timing chain due to lack of oil.
@slocavky Oh wait sorry for earlier comment, I have an 03' Saturn Vue with the same ecotec 2.2 liter. I should probably check my chain just to make sure it won't snap on me.
@bliane386 Actually, read up on how much abuse these motors can take right along with how much HP they can take with 80% stock internals. I think you will rethink that statement. The reason an Ecotec might crap out is if the waterpump dies and the owner waits too long, or from a major lack of maintenance. That can happen to any motor. I have owned an Accord and know friends with Civics. My motor had no compression and the block cracked. My friends had their share too. Honda isn't all that.
@2muchreality4u The whole statement that these are the worst cars made is completely false. Perhaps you speak of the old 2.2 OHV and not the 2.2 Ecotec. I test driven a Sunfire back in 2000 and it was slow, and had lots of body roll in the turns. My wife's 2003 Sunfire is peppy, reliable, and handles much better than the 2000 model. GM has their 2.2 Ecotec drag car that had a FWD land speed record, and fastest 1/4 mile time in the 7s. The stock tranny on a 2002-2005 can take 250hp., DURABLE.
@2muchreality4u your so very wrong man i had 2 of them they are horrible motors cant take abuse at all they spin rod bearings in no time. so i went back to a honda. and got a civic with a b18b1 swap engine will take what ever i throw at it honda makes the toughest engine out i dont care what any 1 says ...... take care man
@bliane386 LOL, the connection is that you owned them. Ask all other owners. I own a Cobalt 2.2 and the wife has the Sunfire 2.2, no motor problems. As for you, you broke both cars. Redlining a motor that does not need to in order to make power will fail. If Honda motors are so tough, why did my 80hp motor have a cracked block? Was it the beasty output? I never redlined it either, oil change every 3k. Truth is, I bought it used. The Ecos you owned were probably dogged just like my Accord, so...
@2muchreality4u I have no fight to pick here, it is just your experiences probably have a real reason besides "the engine sucks" behind it. Also, that motor from an RSX is an Acura motor. Acura is the quality line of Honda just like Lexus is the quality line of Toyota. I had my Honda blow the motor, and I have two current Ecos that run perfect with one at 140k miles with no problems. I see Ecos with over 300k on the original motor. If you mod a car and tune it wrong, it will blow the motor fast.
@2muchreality4u buddy im not going to waste my time exsplaining myself to you lol i owned a few and there junk as far as im concerned a few freids had them as well and had engine problems. yes they have good power and they run great. but they dont last long!!! my stock b18b1 nonvtec walks away from ecotecs all day believe it or not i dont really care lol
@XrJay03 lol i think not! ss turbo come on man what kind of ? is that. if i turboed mine i would whoop a cobalt. i like the cobalts there nice and the fast cars but theres tons of horror stories on them cars
@bliane386 lol i had my share of problems with my cobalt.. i actually almost traded it in on a 2008 s2000 cr.. any more with money being so tight Just performance isn't worth it.
@XrJay03 oohh man you should have traded it!!! the s2000 is a very nice car 240hp stock. ill have 1 some day its my gole its my fav car by far!! but they do have there down fall there not a family car at all only a 2 seater and its somthing you would only drive in the summer but still worth it lol
@bliane386 Yeah someday the s2k is over 30 grand for a new one with a/c i bought my cobalt ss turbo little under 24 grand those 6 extra g's is a big jump..for me that is. at least we can both respect domestic and imports. idk why so many kids favor their first car.. gotta drive and research them all to give an educated opinion then gay bash every auto maker besides their beloved first car.
@XrJay03 yeah i hear ya man iv had alot of different cars over the years all except a ford i just bought a ford f150 a few weeks ago im doing somw work to it then its off to get inspected i guess ill see what fords are all about but at this point there is not to much i can say about a for other then horror stories iv herd anout them. dodge is my most hated car/truck ever!!! also cavaleirs and sunfires nothing but problems for me and a few freinds
ecotech is a good way to get 160 horses stock, people dont realize what u can do to these cars and are too focused on civic s with their little 1.6's and 1.8's oh shit a B18? i still have 0.4 more liters than you and the 2.4's come with supercharger but i heard they are not worth the time, either 2.2 ecotech or 2.3 quad 4 both have around 160 hp stock
man these cars last forever my put it his in a lake and still runs after a little bit of work i just bought one not too long ago woth 338000 clicks on it and still purs nicely and its a fast car
I wouldn't drive a Cavalier or a Sunfire if you payed me, they're death traps. The best thing GM ever did was drop the Cavalier and Sunfire. I can't believe they made those death traps so many years and people actually bought them.
@whatitis99 Death trap? What' cha talkin' bout Willis? I was a passenger in a Sunfire that got into a wreck and lived. Any car can be called a death trap depending on the circumstances.
@Mike85220 Yes, the car is a death trap. They fold up like a tin can in a wreck. Go look at the crash tests done on them through IIHS. They have a poor rating.
@Mike85220 Yeah nobody wants to be in a wreck, but sometimes it happens and it is out of anyones control. I would rather be in something that will help save my life.
Ok think your Saturn can beat me bring it. I'm sick and tired of dumb asses like you leaving such comments. I'm not saying you won't beat me and who gives a fuck if you do. I sure as hell don't. I don't think my car is the most bad ass car around I know its not so shut the fuck up man.
yea PHXADRIAN is an ignorant dumb ass. I have a saturn ion and it has the ecotec 2.2l. idk why hes is saying his saturn will win. its the same frame same engine just different body panels. its GM cars. funny. i like my saturn ion tho. its a 5speed Manuel.
