  • James has the best freaking guitar tone here.

  • @DavidWoodMusic ya dude. this video is a couple years old. i hate the tone I've heard them use in more recent videos: they have the gain turned wayyy down and the guitars sound weak as hell.

  • WTF!! that double bass was fucking awesome XD

  • 0:25 the dude in the background sang well!!!

  • "...winter it will s%&*$-end" Oh dear - Autotune creeps into their non-DVD live shows too...

  • Lars took drugs that night

  • Breathing never more! NEVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEER!!!! *Head bangs.*

  • Death Magnetic is what should have come out after " And Justice For All"

    Welcome back Metallica!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @40Rtruss Death Magnetic was released at the perfect time in the band's history bro. It's part of the rebirth and the product of a fixed up James and a fixed up Metallica. You must be just a fan of the band and not a diehard, that's cool. Welcome back?? Dude, Metallica never left.

  • @dethmag

Saw them many times in the 80's and the 90's stuff does not even come close as far as being Obsessive compulsive disorder for Metallica afraid not, you have me beat

  • are they playing the intro the way it is on the album (reversed) or 'normal'?

  • @EatMyRice18 the way it is on the album

  • @jmachina25 so i'm guessing it's a recording? and thanks.

  • @EatMyRice18 yes it is n yw

  • This is cool...

  • double bass too! yea!

  • 26/01/10 Santiago, Chile :D we are waiting four u guys :D

  • I'm still waiting till they pronounce a show in the netherlands, i keep my mailbox open!

  • YEAAAHH!!!! WN TOY LOCO POR Q VENGAN!!

  • lars does a good job here

  • \m/

  • GUNNA SEE THESE GUYS TODAY, MOSH PIT

  • to sum this up in one word.......

    WOW!

  • James' voice just keeps getting better and better!

  • agree!

  • hahah he probably knew it was gonna go with the single

  • newsted wrote this whole song so one of his only metallica contributions ranks up there at the top

  • where do you get your information he didnt write the whole song he CO-wrote it with lars and james look it up :)

  • jason wrote all the music on this song but james and lars automatically get credit on every metallica song cause james writes the lyrics and together they arrange it to their liking

  • Jason wrote what?

Please, he wrote nearly nothing in the entire time he played w/ metallica..

  • Why did all of you guys thumbs down that guy. If u guys had any brains u would actually look it up and see that Jason did write most of Blackened.

  • Dude, no..

The guys, lars james and kirk, didn't want jason to write too much, look it up..

  • @Jpprflrp DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUH....i named 3 songs...does that sound like much???

  • Hell yes.

These aren'tt he songs he did most part..

  • @diabulz

i think it was james who wrote the intro

  • @lackofsupport Jason wrote the intro, but because he was the "new guy" or whatever they reversed the track, you can hear how it should have sounded on youtube somewhere.

  • @FreeDrinksTomorrow

so it was Jason who wrote it and james reversed it?

  • Yes, I think the only song Jason gave an actual contribution too.

  • @FreeDrinksTomorrow

maybe the only one on AJFA but there are other riffs too that Jason has written. for example my friend of misery..

  • He contributed to My Friend of Misery and Where the Wild Things Are also.

  • where did u hear thtat kind of shit!!!!

i heard the other version, it sucks, the reversed version makes no sense...

  • it was reversed on perpose cause the original version sounds retarded

  • No, Newsted himself has said that he came up with the main riff ONLY and not the entire song. Check your facts.

  • yeah in my opinion AJFA is their best album

  • DOUBLE MOTHERFUCKING BASS!!!!

  • best part of the solo is cut off again.. :(

    anyway, best song imo.

btw.: i miss the double bass, whenn the sing blackened.

  • Rob's good an all, but he's no match for jason's back-ups

  • YAAAAEEEESS, great double base!!!

  • FUCKING Great DOUBLE BASS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 1:43 lol

  • what are you talking about? All those albums were great!

St. Anger actually was the CD that got me into Metallica....

  • i've notice james' vocals are actually getting better, like they went bad in like 94' till like 06' and now there getting better again

  • they got worse because he blew out his vocals recording the black album and AGAIN recording a song in Garage inc but they were always good no matter what

  • true

  • especially bad in S&M

  • yeah lars can still play blackened and battery, thankfull, i cant play songs like those cause carpal tunnel wlill pwn me. but do u thnk he can still play dyers eve?

  • I like when he just lets the crowd go, "NEVERRRRRR!!!!!!!!". Too bad he doesn't do it here.

  • see lars can still play the song so SHUT THE FUCK UP LARS HATERS HE WILL KICK YOUR ASS ANY DAY OF THE WEEK

  • yeah, cutting every double bass part and replacing it with lame snare stuff

  • Rob fails at background lyrics, he sounds like one of those dogs with the floppy snout.

  • metallica 4ever the best band ever

  • BLACKENED IS THE END easily the best intro ever the crowd is so energetic

  • shit how he dont play the whole solo

  • 1:41 is the proof that lars still uses double bass:) its just not hearable at most of the videos

  • they prob used to use more mics for it

  • yeah, many people say he sucks and can't play double bass but they are wrong. the main reason you can't hear it, is lars does not use triggers, he also uses a lot of muffling in his bass drums....

  • I know! thats what I try to tell people but they're like "No, he sucks" finally someone who actually knows what he's talking about. lol

  • hahaha but lars does use bass drum triggers. But he needs them because of how fast his feet are. HAHHAAH sike. but he really does use triggers. idk why

  • i have never seen any triggers on his bass drums and never seen them on his equpment list, usually they are redshot triggers from ddrum or roland which are black. he uses danmar click pads (go on their website) and a lot of equilization that give the bass drum a subtle clickly sound. but if you notice his kick drums are not turned up pretty loud.

  • i think he just uses bass drum triggers. And when you see metallica in concert you know that the loudest thing you can hear is lars bass drums, it cuts through the guitar live. But the stuff youu hear online is ussually from livemetallica and has been recorded with no triggers. The triggers are on during a show as a soundgate to not allow any other sound but drum to come through the mics. i dont really kknow how it works. but he deffinately has triggers for that purposse

  • when he plays live what happens is the drum sound is recorded and sent to a noise gate which changes the sound a little bit (thats how his snare sounds how it does) and then that sound is mixed with a really quiet trigger sound

  • he only practices when he has to make records LoL so when he finishes them he always plays better xD the bad thing is that they don't do as much albums as they usually did xD

  • Do you have this on mp3

  • awesome crowd \../ BLACKENED IS THE END \../

  • man, the live quality of this performance is MILES better than the some kind of monster cd they released with those live performances on it from paris (mostly, i believe).

  • Live version is much better than album version.X)

  • lars kicks ass s

  • I still say that Metallica rules, gone through bad days and good days, like us all, we go to their shows and have a blast. Anybody who puts down 'tallica, well, let me tell you this, 'tallica are in their mid 40's and can retire whenever they feel like to, live their lives the way that they want to with their families. Both Load and Reload are not their best (some good riffs), but at least they were able to get thier own H.Q. Can you, the one's who down on 'tallica, retire at any time?

  • Agreed, these guys are good guys, and reconize their fans are what makes them who they are,and I appreciate them for that.I think this version of blackened sounds great, and if you ask me ,you can here the bass and james playing better than on the origonal track.Peace out,and metallica forever!

  • About his voice: he's older, he blew out his vocal chords, he uses it a lot more then non vocalist, wear n' tear...it's bound to change.

  • The riff at 1:06 is one of my favorite riffs of all time.

  • awesome

  • Do u know where can i find ur mom's pussy to put u inside it ...Fuck u ..nobody cares about ur shitty ass ...i wish ur dad's rape u one day son of a bitch

  • oh really ?

a 17 years old ..russian kid ..gonna tell me about metallica ..Fuck u retarded asshole ..

  • i just wanna tell u one ..thing ..the new album is great ..and they are on the right way now ..

the only diffrent thing is james hetfield's voice

  • I agree with you on that but I think Metallica as a whole is still badass. Just alot now Jame's 46 year old voice has some good years and bad. For example live earth 2006or7 his voice sucks but it made a comeback rock am ring 2008. The Justice era was his best I think

  • the justice era was the best for the whole band

  • noooo Master of Puppets was easily the best

  • I disagree because as great as some of the stuff was, they could have expiremented more and come up with some truly great stuff musically, yet they played it safe. And while it was awesome, it wasn't what it could have been. And what it could have been turned into ..And Justice for All, which is why I like it more.

  • ...AJFA was a brilliant album. I've been waiting for another so progressive one ever since I heard Metallica, sadly they've gotten further and further from that.

  • yea. this was a kick ass album.

  • I agree. Thats why I like ...AJFA significantly more than MOP.

  • thats because AJFA is the best and there can be no better ^_^

  • >=O I have three words for you! Ride. The. Lightning!

  • Yeah AJFA was their best Album, had a more Metal sound than the others, my favourite sound is AJFA...

  • black 90-93 was awesome too

  • OH MY FUCKING GOD!!!

you can NEVER hear his fucking double bass in their live recorded versions, but live, you can hear em CLEARLY, but 1:43 is fuckin PROOF that he does do double bass......

  • excelente!!!!

  • they should come out with a HQ dvd like live shit and cunning stunts

    i watch it every ay

  • it's rumored that their gig in France this summer will be recorded for a live DVD, similar to Live Shit, etc. possibly recorded by the guy who did the BBS video

  • really?

    that would be great

  • All 3 mexico shows are filmed as well as France, and it is the guy with BBS.

  • its hard to hear the bass drums

  • TallicA is all about the live show if you have never seen this band live than you do not know what Metallica is really about. Great performance here, thanks for posting :)

  • kirks solo still not there :/

  • One of his coolest melodies and they skip right over it :(

  • this time...its sure! : Metallica is really back!

  • yeah yeah, DM is awesome, rick Rubin did a goog job, but what about Bob rock, do they fire him??

  • Nah, it wasn't anything like that with Bob. After 14 years or whatever they decided to part ways.

  • Death Magnetic IS INDEED fuckin awesome. it's all ive listened to since it came out!

  • DOUBLE BASS!! O_O

    Go Lars!

  • METALLICA IS METAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL

  • I think livmet audio sounds better than Death Magnetic, better than most of Metallica albums (except Load and Reload). And i'm not Metallica - hater ; ) I love this band but they sound live better than in the studio.

  • yeye! I Agree with you on that, I just ment that in Livemet Audio they don't mix the sound very well.. I mean. I also think Metallica sounds Better Live.. but you can't hear Lars double-bass, and the Backing vocals are often very low too.. and when you are AT the concert you can hear Lars double-bass much much louder/better.. :)

  • Yeah and we dont even hear his drum toms

  • The double is easy to hear.

  • Oh YAYz love this.

  • you can hear the double when you are at the show.i was at the fresno show...double is there alright.

i used to complain that he didn't use it anymore until i was there that night.

  • same here, I never thought that he would play double bass in some parts after I went to show,in the concert u can see he's alright

  • You know, I've been blasting Lars a lot lately because he hasn't been playing the Double Bass parts in a lot of recent performances.

But fuck, upon listening to this, I have one thing to say:

    He's still got it.

  • The solo start from 4.00 is awesome...kirk nail it flawlessly and faster like the album

  • Very good lars,very good.

  • GO ULRICH.....

  • omfg!!! They play their fast songs really awesome! The 2008 performances of Battery, Damage Inc, Blackened etc. are absolutely perfect! Lars is back pedalling, James' voice is amazing, Kirk does the solos great and all that with Rob's bass gives us an unbelievable sound!!! Long live MetallicA!

  • oh... in this example I must agree;/. But the rest is perfect on it. And the other fast songs are perfect

  • Song is cutted at 5:10 after solo

  • METALLICA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 1.43-1.47 awwesoome!!

  • fuck yea!lars kicked ass!!!

  • FUUUUUUUUUUCKKKKKKKKKK YEAAAAH!!!!! \m/

  • This is what I'd call a FAP. A Freaking Awesome Perfromance! Yeah! Really digging Lars' double bass action too!

  • yeah !!

  • I think you could never hear the double bass is because the guitars are so much louder and the bass gets hidden in the background

  • You can also thank Lars for not helping himself by getting rid of his Remo Pinstripe drumheads, which made his set sound a whole lot more powerful.

  • this sounds fuckin amazing

livemet downloads dont do justie to lars or the band.

  • I Agree with you as fuck! I Hate the Livemet Audio.. i Mean.. even if you listen as carefull as you can, you can barely hear Lars Double bass.. That's pretty lame I think.. Cuz we All Know Lars is Awsome =)

Go Lars! Proud Neighbour from Sweden

    Lars Ulrich!! <3

  • eehm.. lars is from denmark, though.

but you cant hear the double-base, thats right.

  • They should use autotune on every livemet recording it sounds way better this way.

    Almost seattle 89

  • Great sound

  • awesome but i would love to hear them play live in E again!

gotta give lars props for the work on the bass drums

  • o wil u shut the fuck up you child

  • Holy shit, this sounds just as good as it does in the Seattle 1989 video from Live Shit...

    Metallica forever!

  • AMAZING VOICE DUDE.. xdd

  • nice !

    double bass !!!

  • Tasty fucking double bass pedalling by Lars.

    Infact - tasty everything.

  • Bassdrum, yeah!

  • This is kick ass!

  • Is this the B-side?

  • SOUNDS AWESOME!
