  • Liked the Windows 7 Theme, me and others would appreciate if you could give us the name of it, thanks in advance.

  • I think I might pick up a hp dm1. 424$ with 4gbs of ram and the e-450

  • klipsch pro-media 2.1 are the best.

  • YAAAAAY another matte screen lover

  • I bought my X120e in early August '11. Mine has the e-350 processor and 4gb of ram. I've traveled with it, and used it for work and play. Your review is spot-on. Keyboard is excellent, performance is surprisingly good, it's light and has good battery life.Turn down the display a bit and it'll give you 8+ hours of battery in general use. A bit thicker than a Macbook Air, but matte screen, SD slot, 3 USB ports, GBit LAN and HDMI make for a much more versatile machine in a similar size package.

  • If I could get this netbook, I will load it with windows xp

  • I thinkpad therefore I am

  • Btw.. What kind of battery life are you getting on the x120e? Optimal/real-life and tops ?

  • Really nice review. You could work for lenovo:P Professional, decent voice as well, I must add :)

  • I agree that the ctrl key should have been the left-most key. fortunately you can swap the fn and ctrl keys in the bios. great review, i just got an x120e about a week ago and i love it

  • I found this on Best Buy for $299

  • Say something about the battery life.

    =

  • Do you have any info on how it runs 1080p mkv, etc. files?? i was thinking of getting this laptop to hook up to my 55" LED HDTV and use it as movie center, while also serving as a work laptop.

  • does it come with the disk is what i mean

  • does it come with windows 7??

  • how do youu format it??

  • @ghostykilla

Formatting is done in the process of installing whatever OS you're putting on it.

  • Love that pause at 6:03 haha!

    Great review!

  • What is your machine type for x120e?

    Mine is 05962RU

    pre-configured, 4g ram, 320g hd, win7pro, bluetooth

  • your wife??? really? come on guy! open the door and step out!!!

  • How many slots for memory?

  • dis guy nose whats hes talkin about hx for your info on all ure vids

  • is 8gb ram can be work practcally in this x120e netbook ? and is it hard to upgrade the memory ram ?

but i don't know exactly what type , the detail of the memory ram that compatible or recommended for x120e ?

  • Comment removed

  • I've been using a t43 since it came out-

fuck all the other brands- i'm staying with thinkpads- all those other plastic pieces of shit can sit in the trash

  • What's the size of the hard drive? 1.8 inch or regular laptop hard drive?

  • please comment something about the screen. the colour saturation, contrast, viewing angle. when buying a laptop, these are the features that i seriously look into.

  • please comment something about the screen. the colour saturation, contrast, viewing angle

  • Can we not install any drivers after clean-installing windows 7 in x120e?

  • What drivers have you installed in this x120e?

  • Much does it cost? And what are the selected markets for this baby?

  • i really like your theme!! where did you download it??

  • Does the touchpad have the little bumps on it like several other lenovo models? I find the bumps very annoying. Thanks.

  • Great review

  • Would this laptop play Minecraft smoothly?

  • Yes

  • that is a sick ass laptop, i so want it but i dont like laptops with battery sticking out

  • Great video, thanks! What about the sound - is it OK or bad? I am thinking about the newly released X121e here in Sweden.

  • Comment removed

  • Could you show how you installed windows. i understand there's no dvd drive built in. Thanks.

  • @clsmz He used a thumbdrive. You can use those instead of DVDs

  • whats the difference between x121e??

  • loving the klipsh <3

  • What is the average battery life on idle, and in use?

  • This video is how a review should be...... great job!!

  • Subscribed, great review dude.

  • How well does Starcraft run on the Lenovo?

  • IS the screen too small?

  • Hi anyone knows if the X120e is a fast computer? Coming from a guy who has a 4.0 GHZ intel i5 Quad core processor, 1.5 Single sounds quite slow. But I might just be a stupid. I'm thinking of getting this for college, hows this for multi tasking and light gaming? Like Maybe a little CS:Source or something like that. Thanks!

  • @stevenan93

It has the GPU and CPU on the same die, so it should be able to handle it. The GPU is an ATI 6350, DirectX 11. CS:S would run great on it, Arkham asylum is barely playable, if that gives you a sense of the power of it

  • I'm wondering if anyone has used Linux on this baby yet. I plan to install Arch Linux on it.

  • @aNiPlOx eh arch on a laptop sounds like a pain in the ass. I'm installing crunchbang on it when it gets here in 2 days though

  • @aNiPlOx same here, i have seen some videos, with the nvidia graphics it should work like a charm

  • Comment removed

  • @aNiPlOx Eeewww...

    Debian FTW!

  • @aNiPlOx

Just to update this. I dual boot Arch and Windows. All you need to do is enable KMS with the ati/amd open driver. It works great!

  • Hi, now that you have had the x120e for a number of months, do you see any problems with the laptop? I've been considering to get it for a while, but it appears to be always unavailable or have 4-6 weeks lead time on lenovo.com. No other laptops on lenovo.com has such low availability, and I'm wondering if they are having some problems with this model. Hope you can confirm, thanks!

  • The greatest x120e review so far.

I'm going to buy one,but we have stock issues in here, and i can only buy it with the slower CPU (E-250) and i think it is not enough for me.

The slower CPU has the 2.5 of windows exp index.

A matte screen is definetly the best thing in this netook.

  • @wussyib Great review. But do you think its worth to spend extra cash to get the AMD e-350 instead of the lower priced e-260 for this computer?

  • @wordly123 Absolutely. The cost difference is nominal ( I believe 70-90 bucks), but the computing power is exponentially more. Dual core, higher clock. Unless you're REALLY absolutely strapped for cash, I don't see any good reason not to get the e-350

  • What is the glitch @6:00? is that also fixable because i have a netbook which suffers from that glitch also.

  • Can this run fruity-loops and other music software? I was planning to get this notebook with the 1.6ghz proccessor, 2gb ram, and the 350 gb 7200 rpm hard drive

  • How is the noise situation? Do the fans get too loud?

  • Comment removed

  • MPC-HC. VLC are not really stable...

Try Mirillis Splash Light, its freeware with DVB-Tuner feature!

  • I've been searching, nay, scavenging for info on this laptop for hours, i think this video convinced me to get it. My only gripe is the 11.6" screen, but it is manageable.

  • really nice review!!!

btw, where did u purchase this for $349 again?

  • @IanDphotography I don't think this is the best laptop for Photoshop. It's fine for multitasking basic programs - I have about 10 browser tabs, a youtube video, microsoft word, and windows live mail open and cpu usage is 25%. If you want to use photoshop a lot, you might want to look at the x220. The x120e is a super-netbook, the x220 is a full ultraportable.

  • Can you pop out the CTRL and FN keys and then remap them? I hate it when CTRL isn't in the corner.

  • @sugarkang Yep. Enter the BIOS by pushing F1 or F2 (don't remember which) and switch them there.

  • @morbidlyobesecatband Right. I found that after my comment. I popped out the keys, too. If anyone wants to do that, just pop out the keys by getting under the "top" of the key and pull. Then snap it back in.

  • I own the X100e and now the X120e and you can snap off and switch the CTRL and Fn keys then switch them around in the bios.

  • I'm going to have to get one for programming on the go! Know anything about putting an SSD inside?

  • the mouse buttons sound loud

    any info about them?

  • @humakabula1 They aren't that loud I think. I like how they are easy to push - I have an ASUS and the mouse buttons are REALLY hard to push.

  • Hey there, what theme were you using? I like the all black a whole big bunch. :)

  • Great Video Noah Kim!

  • Amazing laptop!

  • great review!

  • waiting for frame rate tests..and if possible a liquid spill test :)

  • Thanks for the review... looks like an awesome light notebook.

  • nice review would you recommend this over the thinkpad edge 13.3 for the same price??? im torn between the two... let me know what you think

  • "...didn't know this video was a racy one"

    oh suuuuuuuuuuureeeeee

    nice review btw

  • Great review, dude!

  • Thanks for this video. Hate those videos where the guy spends 30 minutes showing the fucking ports and the instruction manual, you went straight to it.

  • @themangodess Agreed. Don't a lot of laptops have 3 USB ports, HDMI, VGA, audio out, and ethernet? Nothing unusual there.

  • Great review...I think the best too for this notebook

I wish there was some way I could tell lenovo you convinced me to buy this thing

  • how does itunes run on this?

  • hahah.. half naked women.. "yeah, this vid will dooo ;D"

  • Hey nice review! - have u tryed Star craft 2 on the x120e???

Can u tell me whats the name of the wallpaper is?

Can u sent it to me?

    greetings

  • Hi, what's ATOM?

  • @kamaramour Intel Atom - the suckish slow CPU.

  • GREAT review. I wish someone did something like this for the t420. The x120e actually seems really great. It would be a great travel companion.

  • @krol0909 I may be able to get my hands on a T420. Work has them coming in but I guess corporate orders are on backorder. If they come in, I'll get my hands on one and do a video walkthrough. I think we're getting X220's in too, so I'll see if I can borrow one as well.

  • @wussyib Wow! That's so awesome man. Thank you so much. This was really fantastic. It seems like you and mobile tech review are the best reviewers in terms of issues covered and tone. I really appreciate it.

  • @wussyib Where do you work, lol? Your company is awesome if they just keep putting in orders for ThinkPads, lol. BTW typing this on a ThinkPad T42.

  • i just got my x120e today. Great thing thx so much

  • you can switch the CTRL and FN key in bios (at least with my edge 11)

  • >uses VLC

U need to get Media Player Classic or MPC-HC. VLC has terrible lag

  • @wussyib

So any updates on the fan fix? curious

  • @yhp99 Lenovo actually offered a full refund rather then a replacement. They didn't actually offer a replacement option, and considering how backordered they were at the time, I wasn't willing to wait 3 weeks anyways. So I took the refund. Haven't purchased a new laptop yet, actually eyeballing the Asus EEE pad transformer / Laptop dock O.o

  • Very nice review wussyib but you've made it harder for me to select a new netbook, I was thinking of getting the new Asus eee PC 1215B but now I'll have another to think about, cheers.

  • @sarkycant I don't think ASUS build quality is that good, nor are their keyboards. You should definitely get the lenovo.

  • Great video walk through ordered mine today , there was a red flag deal on them. Did you fan issue get corrected? How is the sound for video playback? Hook it up to a big screen yet?

  • @linuxlady There was an audio issue with flash video playback that was addressed by disabling the Lenovo Power Management software. Video output via HDMI works great.

  • How much did you pay for?

Because right now is 3.99 at lenovo

  • @Raksoxl I paid 349 + tax by excluding Windows 7. AFAIK that option is not available anymore.

  • @wussyib Ya I know I whined and cried and sniveled but they would not cut out windows for me...

  • @Raksoxl $3.99? Nice, that's CHEAP! jk

I paid $394 for mine because I have access to EPP plus there was a coupon. Normally it would've been $440. Note: choose the base config and upgrade the CPU from there to save $10. Then buy 2GB RAM - DDR3 1333MHz - elsewhere to save about $55 (lenovo's upgrade costs $80).

  • How's the heat after extended use? I have this model's predecessor the x100e and it get's hotter than my old Pentium 4/7800GTX desktop replacement. Battery life is also somewhat disappointing; what kind of time you're getting unplugged?

  • @chodemessiah I got about 4-4.5 hrs unplugged, but to be fair, I keep the screen on almost full brightness the whole time. Not a huge fan of half brightness. If you were conscious of battery preservation, I wouldn't be surprised if you could get 5 hrs. It's definitely not as long as some ATOM based netbooks out there, but at the same time, the computing and video ability is so far and beyond, I wouldnt' really put it in the same class either.

  • @chodemessiah The top is pretty cool. The bottom is a tiny bit warm. The vent on the left is always putting out very warm air. I've gotten about 4.5 hours unplugged (according to batterybar). That's with about 80% or so screen brightness.

  • is that a visualstyle? if so which?

  • @junkimchi Yup. "Spot" or "Spot 7" from deviant art.

  • I'm a college student and I am right now between this and the HP Probook 4520s. Any suggestions?

  • Also the Thinkpad L420

  • @xKatz90 Not really comparable laptops IMO. the x120e is a pseudo-netbook that goes for around 450 right now. The Hp Probook 4520s starts at 100 more, but also offers a lot more computing power w/ the Core i series available. If you have the budget, go for the HP. If you want to save some cash, and you're looking mostly for internet and word processing, the x120e (or any E350 option, such as the dm1z and the Sony YB) is an excellent choice.

  • Thanks for the input.

  • what are your thoughts on the upcoming w520? im interested but a little worried about it using cougar point.

  • what is the specs for this model??will be much appreciate it!!;)

  • @pecwen The base has the E240 CPU, 2GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM, a 320GB 7200RPM Hitachi HD, wireless B/g/n. The much better E350 CPU is $40. 4GB RAM is $80 from them or $25 if you buy a 2GB stick elsewhere and upgrade yourself. The a/b/g/n wifi is $20 (it's 300mbps, the cheaper one is 150mbps). It comes stock with a 6-cell battery and that's the only option.

  • Kbsroxors,

    +1

  • just clicked on order.

  • Thanks so much for the thorough review of the x120e. I'm sold.

  • Oh and what kind of Wi-Fi did you get? I heard that Lenovo offers several options for ThinkPads.

  • Nice review! Didn't quite catch the battery life ammount, what is the absalute maximum time you got out of the ThinkPad? And I'm going to buy this with E-360, 6 Cell, but with only 2 GB ram. Is 2 enough? Should I do what you did and order extra ram from somewhere elce?

  • okay, im really debating getting this laptop. They have it for 399 as a base model. But I also heard they are just getting rid of inventory for the new laptops with Sandy Bridge? anybody know'

  • Btw do the starcraft.game test already

  • How long did it take to ship? I have to wait 3 weeks for mine :(

  • This video convinced me of buying. Fucking amazing laptop.

Also, down for some SC2? I'm nGsSojU.373, I've got vent too if you want.

  • Have you tried 1080p videos?

  • Just ordered a x120e with e350, 4gb ram, and 6cell battery. Can't wait. how is the 2 finger scrolling? Any way to make the colors on the screen look less washed out? I watch a lot of videos.

  • @mtazc It's not really washed out. I think it's just the effect of the light behind me hitting the screen. Glossy monitors due to tend to somewhat enhance contrast, but I find that the x120e colors are perfectly fine.

  • i think the problem with the fan besides that it shudnt really matter is that it does do that with the faster hard drive u swapped. did it do that with the 5400drive?

Thats why i was unsure whether to get the scorpion black or just stick to a bigger drive of the blue.

but like i say. everyone wants fast and when they update the hhd it becomes hotter so fan kicks in.

this happened to my laptop ages ago. thinking bout it now i realise the problem.

i wonder if hybrid drives will caus this.

  • @KING0SISQO No, you misunderstood. The duration of the fan is not the problem. If heat is a problem, yes the fan will run more, but that wasn't my problem. The problem was that the fan itself was physically broken. It was making an extremely loud sound, regardless if it ran for 1 second or 1 hour.

  • @wussyib

ah fair enuff. was it louder with the 7200rpm drive?

    ive just recieved mine today.

  • @KING0SISQO I didn't notice any noise changes going from a 5400 to a 7200 drive.

  • @wussyib

ok cool. was the speed difference noticeable? i think that is the last thing to ask lol. cos im just bout to purchase a drive and considering a faster one possibly

  • Hey, thanks for the video, helped me decide to get one of these. Something you might like to know: If you pop the fn and ctrl keys off, you can put them back in the opposite positions and there is an option in BIOS to swap them. That's one of my biggest pet peeves with notebooks keyboards and I was very happy to find the option to fix that.

  • Any word on how it plays SC2?

  • @sp00n32 I don't have the unit right now. Had to send it in for exchange due to a fan issue. I'm 90% sure it would probably only run SC2 on all low settings. My t410s has similar graphics ability, but with a much faster Core i5, and that gets by on mostly low settings. A lot of the settings in SC2 rely on CPU, rather the GPU, so in those instances I'm able to up the quality on the T410s. On the X120e though, it's kind of lacking in the CPU dept. (compared to "full" laptops).

  • @wussyib good to know thanks! I bought a i7 T410 last year and I'm liking it but am looking for something more portable. I will buy it even if it doesn't play SC2, but it would just be an added bonus. Thanks for the video!

  • Comment removed

  • @joejoejoe E-350. Don't know why anyone would get the e-240. It's nominally cheaper for a huge performance hit.

  • Thanks for the video. I get mine next Tuesday!

  • How does Netflix & Silverlight run?

  • @wreckn1 Runs flawless

  • Just for the video at 5:39, i subscribe to your channel !

  • So, when can we expect a 1v1 frame rate demo on this? I'm very curious how it goes.

  • @Elzification Unforunately it'll have to wait. I'm sending mine back to Lenovo because my fan is making really loud noises, like it's almost hitting something as it rotates. They offered a full refund, but I'm actually more interested in just getting a replacement. It's the fastest netbook available, and IMHO the best built and sexiest looking too.

  • Have you had the audio stuttering issue many other users are reporting? Basically the audio stutters when playing mp3s, videos for a few instants. It seems to be occur more often after coming out of sleep mode and no fix has been found yet.

  • @stjernefodt can't say I have. Although, I am having a fan issue where the fan sounds like it's physically hitting something inside. Loud as hell. Called lenovo and I'm going to exchange it for a new one.

  • Very nice machine... if only Lenovo will ship mine to me. Still waiting on them, they say there's a "parts constraint" on the Bluetooth module on mine.

  • @tonicipriani you might be waiting until april

  • AMD did a great job this time!

    And thanks for your video!

  • How much did this cost you?

  • @errdayimhustln It was 351 configured without Windows 7 (I have my own copy) with a 6 cell battery and bluetooth 3.0. After tax (shipping was free) came out 380 or so. It was a one time deal for the first order.

  • Great review! Thank you!

  • @BloodyNeighbor I haven't installed it quite yet, but my prediction is that it'll probably only play at everything set to the lowest possible setting. My T410s has similar graphics capabilities, but with a faster Core i5, and that has to be set to almost all "low" settings just to play sc2.

  • NOOOO.... Don't pause the VIMEO vid.. ;))

Great vid though, thanks, as well as the previous ones on HDD/RAM upgrade! Although I have to admit, I kinda stopped processing what you were talking when the VIMEO started, you I guess most people will watch this vid at least twice. :)))

  • Thanks.

  • Also can you link me to where you bought it for a lower price? I can't seem to find the E-350 for $351

  • @WhisperInTheWind9000 Nevermind. Found it, and you on slickdealers

  • Great video! Can you tell us what the WEI is for the WD Hard Drive? THanks

  • @yhp99 5.9

  • I'm looking into buying one and putting in a 60gb solid state drive and the same RAM you did. I have a few questions though.

How does it handle flash games? Or basically any games through the browser? Try some from adult swim dot com and see how it goes? Robot Unicorn Attack is a pretty quick game so that's a good one to try out.

How is the actual battery life with the 6 cell? Just like internet browsing and watching youtube videos? With the screen brightness on medium or so.
