The Amateur Radio Service provides incredibly powerful and wide ranging powers for people to mess with communications and networking tech, get involved with public service, and just have fun. As a field for experimentation, you can't do better, especially with cheap computers... There are plenty of younger and female hams, but we tend to stay away from 75 meters and the bile on ham webforums. Really, if you have any interest in radio or net tech, you have no excuse not to become a ham.

I'm 15 and love amateur radio to bits - morse code is one of many modes, including digital modes, voice, and television. Ham radio is far from morse code and ladder line, and more young ppl are getting into it. It's a hobby which still sparks ingenuity, creativity and innovation.

Funny you should mention that,another ham friend of mine was saying the exact same thing,old men talking about their medical problems and updating their buddies on which friends and family of them have passed away-really depressing!!! I think the young lady in the video above would be a great assett to field day next year,check out how she spins that VFO and plays with that antenna,I would not mind helping her learn the material-she seems ethusiatic about ham radio!
