This sounds a god awful mess........First of all no one person can duplicate the clavs on the song superstition because Stevie play 5 separate parts on the original recording.
Thank you for a superb breakdown of the song. You have made a complex riff make sense to me. Really enjoyed your playing. Very grateful. Makes you realise what a superb artist Stevie Wonder really is! Your lesson has made my day.
I don't get it, at first it looked like you were actually playing it - then you kept playing some kind of progression with the D note which just looked fake! This really isn't a tutorial at all, sorry dude.
So wasteful...its in Eb..please remember Stevie is BLIND...so the black keys allow him to create the FUNK in this song...and the horns always LOVE flat keys...maybe you should redo it in Eb as I see you got over 61000 hits...still good luck..and thanks for the effort...
Also, @ Isreal... this song DOES consist of a million notes. In fact, Stevie played 8 tracks of clavinet on Superstition, 2 with lots of delay, etc. So, the "ghost" notes ARE there!!
most people think stevie wonder songs consist of a million notes but in actuality those notes are just frequencies created by the way he has produced that certain chord these are ghost notes beacause they are there yet at the same time are not
By the way in relatively new to learnin how to play the piano and i just wanted to ask what do u mean by "the song is in E flat" is it the scale note or wat? thanks
You are probably one of those theory stiffs I hear all the time. You are probably too worried about how far away your hand is from the keys, or if you are in middle C position, rather than feeling the MUSIC!
Soul music is Soul music because it comes from the SOUL! No book will ever teach you soul music, you just need to feel it, and you clearly don't..
All you guys need to LISTEN. If you are a keyboard player, this was VERY helpful. The tracking was excellent too. thefaker10 I agree with you...I understood it completely.
Learning music note for note is not always the way. USE YOUR EARS and FEEL IT.
Well I'm sorry that you didn't get anything out of it. One thing I definitely wasn't doing though was showing off - i tried to keep it as basic as possible just to show various bits of the song . If you're playing live, then obviously you don't need to know the bass part , just the main riff. Short of slowing the video down I'm not sure what you want.
With all the criticism, I thought you should know that I'm not a particularly talented keyboard player and I could understand what you are doing. Good video
not sure why you can't see the keys - it looks pretty obvious to me - is it better to slow it all down and do it note by note? Maybe I did the video assuming that it would be for keyboard players - if Stevie did a video with his left hand doing the filming I think I could follow it - i wish he would !
It annoys me when people criticise others for not 'getting it'.
You have to realise there are three Clavinets on this track all playing at the same time which makes it kinda hard for one person to play!
As a live performer you have to come up with an arrangement that works, and by that I mean it has to sound convincingly like the original without lacking too much depth, and that can be quite tricky.
Who gives a crap about what key it's in, that's what transpose buttons are for right? ;)
Heh Heh - I don't care , I can play it in either key -stupidly, I thought that to do a tutorial it might be easier to do it in D. And I kept it as simple as I possibly could, maybe I should have tried to show off instead. Do i really have to record it again in Eb ? I will when I can be bothered. I like critical comments though, when I come back from Pluto !
unbelievable ! - i wanted to show people the easiest way how to play it , not to show off or be flash - and guess what , the easiest way is in D or E, not Eb - when you guys become Stevie Wonder then it will be no problem to play in Eb
Thank you ! I can't get over the Eb obsession on here - in gigs I play it in E, or D or even B depending on the singer - one semitone isn't gonna make much difference - I thought it would be easier for people to play in D
The above poster is wrong, in fact, you do have groove. Just need a more appropriate drum, play the riff a bit more stachatto and it would be perfect.
If you have general midi presets, it should be on either number 007 or 008 and the patch will be called clavi - if not i have no idea, just look for a sound that says clav
Well I haven't heard your roland but I think the clav on this sounds amazing. Then again i'm sure it wouldn't sound half as good under the fingertips of a really dodgy player.

Read that back and realise how stupid it sounded. How would black notes help someone who's blind?
He'd be able to play it regardless of which notes they are. Even able sighted people don't need to look at their hands to play.
