people think i'm crazy for wanting to go to a game at lambeau in dec/jan, but to me that's what packers football is all about. this video proves it. they don't call it the frozen tundra for nothing. one of these days, i will make it happen, even if i have to go alone. if my dad were still alive, i know he'd go and be cheering and freezing right along with me. watching the Pack play makes me miss him more. if it weren't for him, i would've never watched football, but he's partying with lombardi.
Great video, great game. Although the Packers won the game, the Cowboys also played brilliantly in defeat and proved that they could give as well as they could take despite the bitterly cold weather, which supposedly favored the Packers.
When did the Packers stop having cheerleaders? The last ones died during this game, froze to death because they wouldn't drink the brandy... Besides, there's nothing sexy about cheerleaders bundled up in long underwear and snowmobile suits, it's all rather pointless. Truth, there was only one whistle blown in this game, it froze to the ref's mouth and he pulled a bunch of bloody lip off has face when he took it out of his mouth. No whistles were used after that for the whole game.
"The stage was set. Conditions would dictate the strategy, but it would be the players who would decide the final outcome in pro football's COLDEST war."
Just think -- the idiots who attended this game gave birth to the idiots who attended the NY-Giants Green Bay Packer "Ice Bowl" a couple of years ago.
The cancer that would claim Lombardi was probably already beginning to rage in his bowel. His image is so iconic here, that he has passed the mortal plane into the pantheon of all great men. He's probably diagramming a sweep for God to end-around the Devil. God I love football!
You know who reminds me of Bart Starr? Matt Ryan. He's green but getting harder. The rematch is coming! Rodgers, Flash Gordon, vs. Steady Eddie. But we have Julio Jones and a pass defense that gets better by the minute. See you in January!
Some things are beyond winning and losing. The Packers had a mediocre year, 9-4-1. The Rams, Colts, and Cowboys were all better on paper and in fact. But the Gods have their own plans, and their will be done!
I just had to watch this video AGAIN because it so accurately captures the essence of this classic pro football game. I was an 11-year-old fervent Cowboys fan when this game was played. Every time I see the 28-yard pass from Starr to Mercein that gave the Packers a first down at the Dallas 11 on the final drive, I can almost literally hear the roar of the Lambeau Field crowd coming through our TV set and can feel that "Oh nooooooo" growl I felt at that moment in the pit of my stomach.
Favre was a great quarterback but he let football get to his head. If he would have retired a packer he would have been treated as a god for packers nation wide. But now he takes dick pics and joins a rival team stating that he's on "the most talented team his ever been on." Are you shitting me? What about 96' Reggie White, Gilbert Brown, Edger Bennett, Desmond Howard and Holmgren. Thanks for bringing back the title in 96 Favre but now it's Rodgers reign another 3 or 4 titles baby
No argument here sir; Although I'm a Bears fan, the Ice Bowl's legendary story is truly amazing and probably is the most amazing NFL game ever played. I tend to go south in the wintertime, and I'd have probably been the first to wimp out in an Ice Bowl-like game today.
actually Kramer did NOT admit any such thing. let's be ACCURATE. he said, "i couldn't swear i hadn't beaten the count."
Bart Starr was a great quarterback because of his BRAIN. No one could call audibles like Starr. Also, before he injured his arm, he was in fact, (another myth shattered) a pretty good passer.
Wow man! Thanks for that. My mom was not into any BALL, but she knew and let me back then on sat. and sun. I could watch. I remember my mom saying from the other room "Stevie are you all right?'' She came in and watched the end of that game and was so happy for ME! Pack fan since 65.
@Favre2plus2 Like what? Favre was no Joe Montana. Outside of an occasional lucky prayer (Hail Mary with Vikings against 49ers) he was never known to be that clutch. He is solely responsible for 2 horrible passes that lost 2 NFC Championship games. That is what he will be remembered for, not any kind of game winner...
@Favre2plus2 Stop saying that. His decisions after his first retirement have destroyed a large part of his legacy. Favre will go down as a quarterback who was tough, but had little composure. He’ll be a hall of famer for sure, but he’s not even on the same level as some of the other greats. Green Bay has forgotten about him already. Why don’t you make an interesting point instead of this name-calling and blind loyalty to a 41 year-old pervert?
@IrishRoo12 Yall are both idiots, and clearly dont know the whole story about favre. he will be remembered for much more than interceptions and indecision in his retirments, and plenty more than lossing in crucial moments. he also helped GREATLY in bringing the "title" back to "Title town". he was one of the most exciting players to ever play the game and he was the toughest QB ever hands down. people forget that we(packers) where not good for 20 years before '92, when Favre got here GO PACK!

Just the last years year I finally went because of my business I am in Billboards, that my Client was going to build a couple new Billboards, off i went.
I was only 11 years old when this game was played but I remember watching it on my grandparents black / white TV. The music at the end of the video with Starr going across the goal line is A++++++.....Thanks!
@walrustusks1 ... funny i was 12 and living in dallas, my dad was a huge cowboy fan and went for the booze after the game for consolation ... it was magical era for a little boy, the game is by far the most unforgettable I have ever seen, and i have watched thousands .... i wrote a story on the game, if anyone is curious, just email me at pt1gard@aol.com and I will email it ... no hoax/scam etc, just willing to share if you want.
@pt1gard will drop you an e-mail. That game was on New Year's Eve, so lot of people went for the booze after that one!!!! Funny I don't remember it being New Year's Eve, but that doesn't make as much of an impression on an 11 year old as the end of the football game did in this case.
@TerrorWarrior5000 There were not only white players playing in the Ice Bowl so I don't know why your saying this is racist! Of course football is way more diverse today. If anything, your being racist agaisnt whites when you said 'slow stiff little white boys.' Hypocritical don't you think? Your talking about others being racist when you yourself are making racist comments. The NFL is way better today then it was but that has a lot to do with technology. Seriously save the hypocritical comments
@0024jekramer In actuality. Football is FAR MORE Racist today than it EVER was during that Era. Just today, the Racism IS Against White People. It is exactly REVERSED from that Era of time. Therefore, I propose one of two potential outcomes.(This IS NOT Aimed @ You, 0024jekramer )...Proposal 1.) SIT THE FUCK DOWN & SHUT THE FUCK UP! THE SCORE IS NOW EVEN MONEY...Or 2.) I want Reparations for White folk. A Nat'l White College Fund. FAIR EMPLOYMENT RIGHTS=For every (one) Black, Must be (one) White
if you look at the crowd shots, you'll see that most of the people are wearing red hunting gear ... interesting since there was little licensed NFL merchandise back then. no packer jackets, hats, cheeseheads, etc.
this is what football is all about. i wish roger goodell would jump off a fuckin bridge. hes a fuckin pussy. canceled a football game bc of fuckin snow.....bullshit! hes already ruined the game with his bullshit hitting rules.....go ahead and get ready folks....nfl will be 2 hand touch before long
3434ard1, it is EXACTLY the same for me. My older brother, 11, and I sat on our living room floor, freaking out. I think about it all the time. But hey--I guess we Cowboy Fans have more of a winning history since, eh? :D
With it being proven (watch & freeze the video) that Kramer Jumped during The Sneak, it may have been Best for the NFL and Best for the Country that the Packers, (reflecting tradition) won over the Cowboys, (reflecting newness and youth). The NFL needed the story of the Packers' Third Straight Championship, and the Country needed a vibe of stability that tradition brings. JMHO.
for all u cowboys fans out there this helps ease the pain for me the great vince lombardis last game was a 20 10 loss to the cowboys! !!!!!as head coach of the redskins
To bad the NFL doesn't have any real men playing like these days, today they are a bunch of self serving children who don't have the faintest grasp on the word TEAM.
I just watched this clip again in honor of Don Meredith, who died yesterday at the age of 72. This was a great football game. Two teams played good hard football, in the coldest weather in pro football history, to decide the NFL championship and a trip to Super Bowl II. Other than the temperature, the game is known only for great play, and not a bit for controversy. Maybe the greatest game ever.
Wonderful video with great music. Thanks so much! I spent a day out in minus ten, so I know what these temperatures mean. I can't believe anyone showed any skin (necks, arms, hands...). My face was almost numb after an hour.
@swrdgrl Football does that to people, when you love the game it doesn't matter if your cold, hot, tired ,or full of energy. You love being out on the field and that's all that matters.
Bart Starr was--correction: IS--one of the greatest sports heroes of all time. A guy without outstanding natural ability but a tremendous work ethic and desire to win. He represents all that is right about sportsmanship and American values. He was my #1 sports idol growing up. I hope he is doing well today.
I never noticed this until it was brought up on the radio today but the right guard #64 and #84 on the end of the line on the right both move before the play. In today's NFL they would no doubt have been called for a false start because these refs love to pull the flags out of their pockets.
nICE... BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS... OOPS.. Caps... My son plays flag football here in Salisbury, MD and the coach is Tom Brown from the Packers... He intercepted the pass from Meridith at the end I thought... trying to find that vid now...
You really did a great job with this video. This is was the NFL was all about. Nowdays, it's too much style and not enough substance. Look at the conditions these guys played in! Just to play in those conditions are incredible. I'm from Miami and you've got fans complaining that they don't want 1:00pm games because of the heat and humidity. The game and fans have really changed.
i am neither a packers fan or a cowboys fan. but this was one of the greatest super bowls of all time. 3rd and goal and the cowboys had set up for a pass play because the packers had 2 failed running and attempts and they knew all they needed was 1 completion to win and the coach suggested a qb sneak and faked them all out and surprised the entire world. you gotta love history
This is all about the packers. Lonbardi did NOT have to start from nothing, as Landry had to do. The Super Bowel trp. should be called the Landry Trp.
If you asked a person the question "If you could go back in time to witness any event in history what would it be?" Many would say the birth of Jesus, assassination of Caesar or Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. Little do they know that the correct answer in THE ICE BOWL. FUCKING EPIC.
I only wish a high-quality color tape of the complete CBS telecast of the "Ice Bowl" would surface, and be released, perhaps jointly by CBS and NFL Films.
That's one classic game I'd like to be able to see the original broadcast of.
Hey michaeln1286 thanks for posting the Video. I'm trying to find the actual wind speed during the game. Do you know where the audio file with the announcer came from or who it is? Thanks for your help and GO PACK GO!
I was there! I was 12 and went with my parents in the place of my grandfather, because it was too cold for him. It was the coldest I've ever been. We sat in the end zone where Bart Starr made his historic touchdown. I remember all havoc breaking lose as the fans went wild. It took me days to warm up from this!
people automatically assume that the football players of this era, pale in comparison to the new school of players,I disagree, these players where smarter, more hardworking , a shitload tougher, they could break there arms and still play the entire season, they played from the heart, there skills like form tackling is far superior than modern defenders, they would use there minds and finesse to win,a player Like Peyton manning of today has similiar qualities
As a Cowboy fan who grew up in Dallas, I recognize the greatness of this game even though this game was played nearly two years before I was born. I met Bob Lilly once and I asked him about what it was like to play in this game. He says he still has problems with his hands when it gets gold because of this game.
people think i'm crazy for wanting to go to a game at lambeau in dec/jan, but to me that's what packers football is all about. this video proves it. they don't call it the frozen tundra for nothing. one of these days, i will make it happen, even if i have to go alone. if my dad were still alive, i know he'd go and be cheering and freezing right along with me. watching the Pack play makes me miss him more. if it weren't for him, i would've never watched football, but he's partying with lombardi.

3434ard1, it is EXACTLY the same for me. My older brother, 11, and I sat on our living room floor, freaking out. I think about it all the time. But hey--I guess we Cowboy Fans have more of a winning history since, eh? :D
meridethtohayes 1 year ago
With it being proven (watch & freeze the video) that Kramer Jumped during The Sneak, it may have been Best for the NFL and Best for the Country that the Packers, (reflecting tradition) won over the Cowboys, (reflecting newness and youth). The NFL needed the story of the Packers' Third Straight Championship, and the Country needed a vibe of stability that tradition brings. JMHO.

I watched this game as a kid and huge cowboy fan. My brother was G.B. fanatic. It still hurts.

for all u cowboys fans out there this helps ease the pain for me the great vince lombardis last game was a 20 10 loss to the cowboys! !!!!!as head coach of the redskins

To bad the NFL doesn't have any real men playing like these days, today they are a bunch of self serving children who don't have the faintest grasp on the word TEAM.

@Reapster04 Real men? I see a bunch of slow stiff little white boys who couldn't hack it with the electric athletes in today's NFL!

I'm 52 years old and have seen a lot of NFL football, this is by far one of the best, if not the best, NFL games of all time...
aikidoaow 1 year ago
I just watched this clip again in honor of Don Meredith, who died yesterday at the age of 72. This was a great football game. Two teams played good hard football, in the coldest weather in pro football history, to decide the NFL championship and a trip to Super Bowl II. Other than the temperature, the game is known only for great play, and not a bit for controversy. Maybe the greatest game ever.
Famijoly 1 year ago
Wonderful video with great music. Thanks so much! I spent a day out in minus ten, so I know what these temperatures mean. I can't believe anyone showed any skin (necks, arms, hands...). My face was almost numb after an hour.
swrdgrl 1 year ago
@swrdgrl Football does that to people, when you love the game it doesn't matter if your cold, hot, tired ,or full of energy. You love being out on the field and that's all that matters.

Bart Starr was--correction: IS--one of the greatest sports heroes of all time. A guy without outstanding natural ability but a tremendous work ethic and desire to win. He represents all that is right about sportsmanship and American values. He was my #1 sports idol growing up. I hope he is doing well today.

bigjames02 5 months ago
I never noticed this until it was brought up on the radio today but the right guard #64 and #84 on the end of the line on the right both move before the play. In today's NFL they would no doubt have been called for a false start because these refs love to pull the flags out of their pockets.

3rd and goal and the cowboys had set up for a pass play because the packers had 2 failed running and attempts and they knew all they needed was 1 completion to win and the coach suggested a qb sneak and faked them all out and surprised the entire world. you gotta love history
xxpiexx90 1 year ago
This is all about the packers. Lonbardi did NOT have to start from nothing, as Landry had to do. The Super Bowel trp. should be called the Landry Trp.

If you asked a person the question "If you could go back in time to witness any event in history what would it be?" Many would say the birth of Jesus, assassination of Caesar or Lincoln's Gettysburg Address. Little do they know that the correct answer in THE ICE BOWL. FUCKING EPIC.

This was an excellent montage. My family was hard-core Cowboys fans in the middle of NW Wisconsin, I was always hassled.
stevolkman 1 year ago
I only wish a high-quality color tape of the complete CBS telecast of the "Ice Bowl" would surface, and be released, perhaps jointly by CBS and NFL Films.
That's one classic game I'd like to be able to see the original broadcast of.

BigTexanLonerWeirdo 1 year ago
The Packers are to football what the Yankees are to baseball.
All other teams would fall of the face of the earth but those teams would still be around.
The Packers are tradition and they are America's team.

As a Cowboy fan who grew up in Dallas, I recognize the greatness of this game even though this game was played nearly two years before I was born. I met Bob Lilly once and I asked him about what it was like to play in this game. He says he still has problems with his hands when it gets gold because of this game.
