  • One of the best, and he can still hold his own pretty well on Letterman.

  • I don't know what shocked me more, the 'spade' comment or when Ruth Buzzy 'frenched' Don Rickles?

  • That's racist. Plain and simple, it's too fast to call it anything else.

  • Awe the good old days, when people were funny.

  • this is what a roast should be. nowadays, they're more mean than funny.

  • @livingdeadgrl18 , I agree the Dean Martin Roasts were the best, Today's roasts are not funny at all. they need to watch the Classics to see how it is done.

  • I didn't like Ruth Buzzi when she was around, but she has amazing physical timing and facial expressions.

  • This is great, love Don Rickles. Few roasts are as funny today. Though I do recommend George Takei's roast of William Shatner, I think you'd agree its a good one, check it out!!!

  • I loved it

  • what a night, who we honoring?

  • Holy Smokes can you imagine if some-one said what Rickles said at 2:28 OMG for sure there would be troops at his door in todays Politically Correct World. Then Rickles says he would tap dance to add insult upon insult BUT did Nipsey Russell sue him NO .. he laughed his head off . Why can't we have this kind of tolerance and humor today?

  • @Etnalleb ... have you watched any of the roasts they've done on comedy central? They do way worse than that and everyone's cool with it.

  • @Konform2zoidberg Hey, i'm glad to hear that, every one has to loose-up

and have a sense of humor today and no i don't watch comedy central .

Jon Stewart is about as far as i'll go these days. I loved his roasting of the

Donald at the Albanian Pizza house he took Palin too.

  • LMAO! dean martin's face when ruth buzzi starts kissing don! he looks like that guy at the party who's completely smashed wondering what the hell is going on!

  • I think they're all gone except Rickles, Ruth Buzzi, Phyllis Diller and Rich Little.

  • Who's the woman at 1:35?

  • @chrissylm37 I believe she is Totie Fields

  • @angbots1 Thank you...it was driving me nuts trying to figure it out....lol

  • I love the horrible editing job. While Rickles is busting funny on the lectern, he's also sitting down and headbutting Dean Martin 1:51

  • Now I know why Hollywood sucks now. All the great one's are gone with the wind. On all these clips the talent level is vastly superior to today's so called celebrities.

  • DAY CAN"T DO NUTTIN CAUSE I TAP DANCE! great line lol

  • ROFLOL!!!!!

  • this is why we can't have this kind of comedy anymore, too many of the PC brigade and trolls combined ready to jump on anyone who makes a joke at someones expense, even if the other person laughs too. Jesus he ripped it out of himself too, Jews, Italians, Blacks, everyone... And everyone laughed and had a drink. For fucks sake, what a sad world we live in where we need the UN to supervise humour

  • Holy jesus! All this hatred over some harmless laughs? Seriously people let's just take it ass the comedians on the roast did. As harmless joking at the expense of someone who took it on the chin and dished it back with equal enthusiasm. We could learn a lot from them.

  • @darqangel69 you guys can't be that STUPID, YOU JUST CAN'T BE! Who are you to decide for the rest of the world what is funny and what is offensive! It's good that you can laugh at this, i myself have all the DVDS to the roast, I grew up as a kid watching this stuff and I love it! I'm also African American, but that does not mean because you and I find this innocent and in good fun that other people have to accept it! To each there own! YOU CAN'T BELIEVE YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO DECIDE FOR OTHERS!

  • instead of having arguments about things that don't matter why don't we all remember why we watched this video. To laugh. Let us all laugh together despite our different beliefs and go through the world with respect for our fellow humans.

  • I honestly can't remember anyone ever being sued over a racial slur said during a roast. Criticized, yes, such as Ted Danson at the Whoopi Goldberg roast. A lawsuit over something like that wouldn't get far anyway. You can't just be offended, you'd have to prove damages. At a roast, insults and slurs are the norm- that's the point of it, for God's sake. Not only the word "spade" but just about everything else Rickles said would be inappropriate anywhere else BUT at a roast.

  • I sincerely hope you aren't working in some nuclear plant with your finger anywhere near the button. I'm not the onlu one that made that comment. TONS of people think about that simpler time as a much better time. Being "sued" was never even thought of, nobody "sued" anybody over a "joke", you ignoramus. Now go ahead, I'll make your feeble liberal brain feel "good". I'll let you have the last word...I promise not to respond. Libs feel "good" when they get the last word in...now....GO FOR IT!

  • I just gotta say, I'm a huge Lucy fan. And I love watching the old footage. But I get really annoyed when I see all these comments calling comedy today "crap" and "crude" -- there was comedy back then that were those things too! And there is comedy today that are those things. But there is ALSO comedy today that is smart, funny, and great. I really can't stand it when people make blanket statements. Especially when they are wrong. When you say those things you just sound old and cranky.

  • I love how Ruth Buzzi walks back the second time to kiss Don Rickles and stops on the way back to her seat to whack Dean Martin a couple times with her purse...

  • The joke to Nipsey about being a "spade". See how he just laughed at it? How I WISH I could go back to those days. nobody was offended, it was pure joking and fun. You could NEVER have this today. You'd be presented with 10 different lawsuits from 10 different people and/or organizations. I remember watching these on TV as a kid, because my parents had it on when it was originally aired during primetime. Compare this to the absolute CRAP they consider "comedy" today. I wish I could go back.

  • @John22133 I disagree. People joke about race all the time now days and people don't take offense. People sue when its actually offensive. There is a big difference.

  • @John22133 I disagree. People joke about race all the time now days and people don't take offense. People sue when its actually offensive. There is a big difference. By the way, I'm going to take a guess that you are not black..... just sayin.....

  • @PerfectAngel316 You are wrong. You never see race jokes on prime time channels, sorry. It was a simpler and much, much better time back then. I will take a guess that you aren't old enough to remember seeing these when they were actually aired. So you wouldn't remember nor understand how things were then, if you didn't live then. As far as me being black, no I'm not. So that means.....? I'm Italian-American, and I'm the first one to laugh at all "Italian" jokes.

  • @PerfectAngel316 That's the difference today. Back then we LAUGHED. It was a joke. Today, you'd get slapped with a suit from the NAACP, which is a joke in itself. Don't tell me no, that wouldn't happen, because it would. I'm sure your intelligent, but if you weren't around in the 70's, then you can't debate it because you just have no idea. I don't care what you "read, heard from parents" etc. You didn't live it, so you have no clue what things were like then.

  • @John22133 you are a seriously narrow minded and clearly a very angry person. I pointed out that you are clearly not black because being black back then was a very different experience than being black now. Now days a black person who's black children are watching television shouldn't have to put up hearing black jokes. Period. It was okay back then because at that time a certain level of racism was expected and tolerated. If you are trying to defend that then you have a problems.

  • @PerfectAngel316 And you are a serious IDIOT. You are clearly an angry racist that is mad because I said 1973 was a better time than now. WTF does RACE have to do with this?? I never asked for nor put a gun to your head to elicit a response from you about my innocent comment about things being better back then. You wouldn't understand the way it was then, since this obviously was way before your parents got horny enough to decide to make you. Don't like what I said? Shove it up your ass, then.

  • @John22133 Also, you don't have to grow up then to understand it. Its called common sense. And you clearly aren't watching modern television b/c there are race jokes every 2 seconds and people laugh. Jersey Shore? That is one huge race joke. And an italian-american organization sued them because they were offended by the word guido. It didn't stop the show. Welcome to 2011 where people are allowed to say when they are offended without fear of persecution. That was hardly the case back then.

  • @PerfectAngel316 Thank you! You JUST proved my point, young person. They were SUED. Back then, NOBODY was sued! You are missing my entire point. I can tell youre a left wing lib that voted for the jerk we have in the White Hoise now. Back then, nobody would "sue" you, the only reaction you'd get from those jokes was LAUGHTER. Holt Christ. "2011" sucks compared to 1973. NOBODY got "offended", they LAUGHED. THAT is my point.

  • @John22133 Now, if you'd prefer to live in an era where the levels of tolerated casual racism were never checked, thats your business (which also is a red flag that you are not black, but I digress), but one thing I do love about the USA in 2011 is that I'm legally allowed to tell someone if they've offended me. Apparently that is not how you would like to live, so may I suggest you think about moving to a country where that isn't allowed? Clearly you can't handle this level of freedom.

  • @PerfectAngel316 house* My mistake.

  • @John22133 I'm sure you will want to come back with some cheap shot, whether its attacking my age, or the President of the United States and if thats the place you want to take this conversation to, you are more than welcomed to do that - and that brings me to my OTHER point which you also clearly missed. Which is we live in a country where people are allowed to voice their concern, opinion, and legally check things that they feel are wrong. And there is nothing wrong with that.

  • @PerfectAngel316 Obviously you have missed my entire point. Yes, you DID have to grow up then to understand. I don't watch very much TV these days, mainly because of my schedule. I have seen "Jersey Shore", and that show and most of the new shows I HAVE seen are so ridiculous I wouldn't watch them even if I did have the time. I'll take old school, anyday. Most of what I see today is garbage, and that's especially true of those "reality shows".

  • @John22133 Listen, I'm not going to engage in a battle of wits with someone who has, clearly, come unarmed; but what I will say is that you, sir, have totally and completely missed my entire point. You are saying people don't laugh at jokes like this anymore because they get sued - I'm saying that is not true and the Jersey Shore lawsuit proves MY point. They got sued, show is still on, people are still laughing. One has not effected the other.

  • @PerfectAngel3 You're ONE TOTAL FUCKING IDIOT! I NEVER said that people "don't laugh at these jokes because they're afraid of being sued". READ that the hell I said, do you know how to read? Can you comprehend???? I SAID that back in that time NOBODY NEEDED TO WATCH WHAT THEY SAID! PEOPLE LAUGHED AND DIDNT TAKE ANYTHING SERIOUSLY, IT WAS ALL SAID AND TAKEN IN FUN. There....does the capital letters help you to UNDERSTAND NOW?????? Jesus Christ....Why are you libs so God damned STUPID???

  • @John22133 You also can't seem to handle a simple debate without resorting to gross name calling and disgusting language. Yeah, I'm not gonna stoop to your level with that. Sorry buddy. And, please, keep my parents out of this - they are very nice people and don't deserve to be spoken about in that manner by an angry man with an ax to grind. Thats just rude.

  • @PerfectAngel316 Shut the fuck up, you left wing liberal nutjob. You commented first..so fuck you and your god damn parents. Im through with you.

  • @John22133 my mistake, you are clearly nothing other than a class act. Have a wonderful evening.

  • OMG that is Ginger Rogers. The first woman I fell in love with. I was six and she was about 46. It did not work out.

  • Compare these with Lisa Lampanelli's crude roasts.

  • Rickles can get away with almost any insult he throws at people. lmao

  • WHEN I WAS LITTLE I LOVED LUCY.....HER SHOW WAS THE BEST

  • Why on EARTH did I try drinking coffee while watching this? WHY? Now I gotta clean up the damn desktop...

  • besides being a racial slur, was the "spade" bit also a gambling/card joke?

  • @xhellonhighheels69x I thought Spade was a shovel or how they said it in the UK

  • TALENT.

  • why cant roasts be like this anymore.....the comedy central ones pale in comparison to these

  • 2 people didn't get a cookie but they had to go away

  • Man I love this stuff!!!! So much better than the crap we got today!!!! Everyone joked about each other with respect!!!!! screw political correctness

  • shut up.. I hate when our spade butts in... hahahahahahaha!!!

  • seriously are their any comedians like this nowadays? Can't think of any.

  • Ruth Buzzi was funny, HOW?

  • Nipsey - "You say spade one more that and they'll be troops in front of your door tomorrow"

    Funny

Rickles- "They can't do nothing because I tap dance"

    Funnier

  • This is AWSOME Henry Fonda,,Now,,its time to QUIT!!! LMAO!

  • Don Rickles.. The fucking best!!!!!!!!!

  • "I hate it when a SPADE interupts" Jesus Christ, say that now-a-days and people will have your head on a stick. But Don will always be my favorite comedian. Nobody can follow him.

PS: Ruth Buzzy is one of the ugliest women ever. LOL.

  • where's the remaining part of don's bit???

  • the editing is so bad, if you watch enough segments of the roast you notice they always show the same clips of the people laughing, etc...

  • "i'm just delighted because...i always wanted to meet Henry Fonda" ha ha ha! Priceless!!!

  • Hey the same clip of Lucy at 2:33 is used at 3:46. That may be what they do all the time, I'm not too familiar with this show.

  • Can anybody tell me which of them are still alive? cause I love them all...

  • They are all so plastered! oh my gosh! hahah!

  • spade?

  • @lovefreak27 haha its a black person if you really don't know.

  • @lovefreak27 racial slur for a black person.

  • @jonesing82 shut the fuck up and go find your food stamps

  • @TheMerriamLookout what happened? lol.

  • Ok Don is wicked funny. But come on some of this stuff wasn't that funny. Most of these people look like they are forcing themselves to laugh. Some of this stuff is funny in deed. but come on people we know better.

  • "What a night. Who we honoring?" lol

  • Don Rickles is the best!!

  • what a night! who are we honoring?

    classic rickles.

  • Great stuff, hilarious. I would love to see them tease Obama like this.

  • stilla stiller? huh? who's that lady?

  • @hellokittydolll Thats Phyllis Diller, one of the funniest comedians from the 50's - 70's, and even I believe she made appearances later too. great with the one liner jokes.

  • Dont get me wrong I love the jokes that Don tells, but the celebrities reaction when Don tells it. its priceless

  • imagine that. ruth found a way to shut don up. lol

  • What he said at 2:26 ?

  • Looks as though buzzi owned rickles there.

    5 stars thanks for posting.

  • Hilarious LOL

  • That was great! When Comedies could laugh at themselves, they had respect for one another. I really miss those times.

Also, no F-Bombs, etc. Just pure Comedy. Great Stuff.

  • really miss this comedy. Was about respect and love. Not race or religion.

  • "You say "Spade" one more time, there'll be troops outside of your doorstep!"

"They can't do nothing 'cause I can tapdance!"

  • who is the man at 2:36?

  • that's Nipsey Russell

  • @pinoyboy30 Nipsy Russel!

  • I really enjoy music videos. But I gotta have the comedy videos. I love to laugh. Lucy, you were so funny.

  • "Henry, Henry... Are you up?"

  • Oh man, that was funny!!
