  • maybe someone can help me, i don't know if it was for atari but it might have been i am looking for the title of a very old game that was very much like jezzball except it wasn't balls you had to trap in a small area.. anyone know of any old varients on any of the old consoles?

  • Gender Age

    Male 35-44

    Male 25-34

    Male 45-54

no women missing the old days ...!!!

  • God I so jealous if you still play these I remember loads of them and can't believe you have games like "rainbow walker" " electraglide" "chopsuey" "miner2049" oh I could keep going & going

  • @AnsonH1234 SHUT UP IDIOT, the problem is that idiots dont know how to apreciate videogames this days, I bet you only play CALL OF DUTY, AND LOT OF STUPID SHOOTERS,

Im pretty immpresed on games of atari you can see they worked hard to bring you a nice game, Im programer, and the 360 space ship shooter game really looks interesting, whats the name please?

  • ATARI SUCKS!!!!!!!!

  • @AnsonH1234 .............Wow

  • @AnsonH1234 so you do.

  • @AnsonH1234

Fuck you idiot! You don't appreciate old games! Here in former USSR we liked a lot ATARI games. They're until today interesting and relaxing ones, remembering to us who we were, are and will be. STUPID SHIT!

  • Good times...

  • That awkward moment when you beat every game on your atari only to realize you wasted over half of your life.

  • lol I had this when i was 6 im not 27 I loved my Atari

  • what is the name of the game on 4:38 ?

  • Great list of games ! I think I played all except for 5 of them. Spent countless hours on the 8 bit - had my own BBS as well. Some of my favorites that were on your list : Archon, World Championship Karate, Bruce Lee, Star Raiders , L.Star Fighter. My all time favs: Return of Heracles, Ali Baba, and Ultima III. Pre atari 8 I had a Vic 20 - loved Omega Race, and the Scott Adams Adventure Games. Thanks again for posting.

  • for a 70s computer these are some impressive graphics.

  • i swear you could turn the music in this clip into a mad calvin harris dance song. it'd be number 1 on the charts

  • if you had already includede miner 2049er, you probably ditched the title music (babyish it might seam, it's very catchy). Babyish, because it's based on "there are 7 days". If mom caught me singing the song I would be in hot water, unless it was sung right in front of bella (in wich case, she'de know I'm teaching her the days of the week).

  • @dnch

River Raid is prominently featured in the beginning, can't remember but Kick Start may be in one the 3 videos.

  • Wow!! This is a great trip down memory lane. I still have my Atari 800 and 1050 Disk drive, and I'm sure somewhere the disks that go with it. But having gone through some moves things were left behind by accident and I'm not sure anymore. I can remember fondly the fun times I had playing it! Especially Karateka and Bruce Lee. Archon was fun too! Great video.

  • my memories... :D I had Atari 800XE :P

  • What, no Quasimodo?!?!? That game had great music, graphics, and diverse game play. And Mario Brothers was a great port of the arcade. Tail of Beta Lyrae was one of the best space shooters and the music was amazing. And you forgot the all time best game on any platform, M.U.L.E. !!!

  • Comment removed

  • what was the 3rd games name? i used to play this when i was 3 or 6. But i'm now 15. lol. now what was the name of the 3rd game again? that was freakeeeeeen' HARRRD.

  • Seeing all theese comments, and knowing my game history till to todays. There is 1 fact none can really debat over....:

Games back then had alot more creativity then todays.

    <3 greetz

  • The problem isnt power its programers have to understand the hardware to be able to program it well. Atari 6507 assembly language was not a simple language to learn like the Nes ,however Activision always make great games

  • @fpvshitsonhsv

Actually Atari and NES use the same CPU type - MOS 6502, so their assembly syntax was identical. Atari was harder to program for because it did not have the powerful PPU video hardware of the NES.

  • @fpvshitsonhsv Like subj1 said both atari and nes games are written in 6502 assembly, which is not a simple language to learn unlike a lot of the programming languages that some people are using these days that are more high-level. Back then, there was no simple syntax in programming, well atleast not that I am aware of.

  • @BigDStudios16 I know mate ,im a massive Atari fan and grew up in both Atari and Nes era.Thing is even though Atari and NES share the same language programing for the NES is alot easier. The only ones that where champions at programing for the Atari based games was Activision.Activision is a third party software company that was formed from the best programers Atari used to have, they formed this after getting fed up with no credit for making the games.Keep in mind NES used pre rendered sprites

  • @fpvshitsonhsv That's true, the NES really isn't that hard to program for, I have been learning how to program for the NES and it isn't too hard, but I guess it's true that programming for the atari would be harder to program for but not because of the language, but the hardware itself. Ya, Activision was good back then.

  • @BigDStudios16 Speaking about programming, I find that today the code isn't as "Tight" as it could be, back then you had no choice, if you wanted the game to fit in the Ram available, you needed to keep it simple and straight forward. Today you have many gigs to play with and the speed is there to make up for sloppy code. I have/had many systems and some consoles but find the enjoyment of just hitting a switch and a few seconds later, gaming! Nothing like it....

  • @Mosfet510 I agree.

  • @Mosfet510

Not just that man, do you have any idea how sloppy programming actually is these days, where there is so many types of GUI, front end / back end software & hardware & the CPU & GPU power is measured in Gigs, instead of bits, the programmers can now spend more time chewing thru doughnuts & watching gay porn then what they do compiling their own code.

This is why the games you buy today are riddilled with bugs.

  • Can i ask for help? I'm looking for a name of one old game, i think it was for Akari, too... There was a little guy on a brick grouns with alot of ladders. The guy could eat or ruin the bricks so enemies fell in the hole between bricks... that's all i remember... Does anyone know the name? T.T

  • @AngiHa

    Lode Runner

  • My fave XL game is Donkey Kong. I thought Jet Set Willy on this platform was appalling next to the other 8 bits!

  • is the first music track off panther? I cant remember but its very familiar!

  • @colbaker27

    Yes it is

  • I'm not at all familiar with these... Thanks for uploading. Added to favorites.

  • I'm not at all familiar with these... Thanks for uploading. Added to favorites.

  • Can someone tell me the name of the game at 0:37?

  • Can someone tell me the name of the game at 0:37?

  • so is this 8 bit comparable to the sega and nintendo 8 bit consoles? cause this looks much worse than the games on those.

  • @damek666

Atari 8-bit is inferior to SMS and NES it terms of graphical prowess, as the latter have very powerful 8-bit graphics processing hardware (tilemap banks and hardware bitmap sprites). The only area where Atari shines is the ability to display up to 128 colors per screen (on different scanlines) where SMS and NES are limited to 56 colors. You can't compare consoles by CPU register size, as, for example, Atari 2600 is also an 8-bit console, yet significantly inferior to Atari XL/XE.

  • @damek666 atari 8 bit lines of computers are comparabile to a c64, retro programmers are finding the atari computers had greater capablities than they were credited for at the time, in europe they were sidelined by the c64 zx spectrum and amstrad cpc464, i know in the uk even the msx sold better (i owned one)

it may be down to how poorly designed and marketed atari's consules were the 5200 crashed in burned before it reached the uk and the 7800 and xegs were massive failuire as well

  • @damek666 please note im not slagging off ataris consules off that period just they exibited faults that just shouldnt have been there.

5200 had flimsy poorly designed controllers, a poor set up system and a stupidly bulky machine.

the 7800 corrected most of these faults but put a very poor sound chip to save money, something they couldnt afford to do competing with the nes.

sadly when they got it right, atari with the xegs (a refined 800 from 79) atari had did far to much damage to itself.

  • From which game is the song at 1:34 , does someone knows ? thanks alot!!

  • @Godfridus thats the tune for jet set willy on the 800xl, one of my av 800xl tunes. i believe it was done by the master Rob Hubbard himself.

  • I don't know this console, but some of the games looks amazing. Of course, not the graphics, but there are some really good games there.

  • Your awesome!!! Poke 580,1 press return then press reset on the bad comments. How about leather goddesses of phobos?

  • why are all these games better than cod? ow wait a second.... all games are better than cod

  • Comment removed

  • Is Atari made by Nindendo?

Great Video and, great 8 bit music!!!

  • Aww <3

  • Greets from Colombia !

  • The best game ever in 800xl , Bluemax , then Castle Wolfstein!

  • You can try to play these games (and other Atari classic games) online at atariland.spb.ru

  • 60 Best Super Nintendo (SNES) Games video is now live - check it out through my channel!

  • What was that one game where your suppposed to shoot out missles that are coming down? Sorry if im not explaining good enough

  • @BrucieWayne why did you watch the video then?

  • Atari epic !

  • I hate it when new gamers can't appreciate Atari just because of the fucking graphics. Atari was the console that made video games popular! You wouldn't have COD without it assholes! I say this and I am 15.

  • What's the game at 5:15 ??

  • you should have put the name of the game before each one, kinda hard to remember them from sooooo long ago

  • the karate game was one of my most favorite of all games, i would spend hours playing this as a kid (RED) (WHITE)

  • @1:09 that was my first videogame.

  • What was the game at the 3:00 mark? Looks like a defender copy, I want to try it.

  • Excellent Video Subj1.

  • If anyone misses any of these old games just go to AtariManiadotcom and set up an emulator.

  • @ErikaCn100

Judging by the immaturity of your comment, your parents must have been in kindergarten when these games were made, and you did not appear until about 15 years after. So, please do everyone a favor and take your constructive criticism to your favorite "OMG COD4 RULEZZZ" video.

  • @subj1 hell yeahh

i agree totally erika is a bitch

  • @ErikaCn100 idiot

  • @ErikaCn100 Actually the Atari 800 games were way ahead of their time. They had excellent ports of top arcade games. Most of these games are from the 80s. In 20 years from now when people are playing games on holo-systems than the games you play today will also look foolish.

  • @ErikaCn100 Show a little respect to first games, mother-fucker!!

  • @ErikaCn100 HAHAH kid. you fucking haven't got a clue about good games. cod 4 is only good cos the software they use is the best and they have hundreds of people working on the game. these game's that you say the Graphics blows..is the Games that are the best. and if these weren't made, then COD wouldn't have been either. your one of those Kids who is stupid and needs to go back 30 years to be shown how stuff used to be and how much better it was than today.

  • @TutsModding suck my ballz nub. I can own you in CoD.

  • @ErikaCn100 Holy shit kid. try and beat me in real life ..haha you would die..COD is a game you cock mouth

  • @TutsModding lol I was a marine core army ranger for like 6 years and I was in iraq were I won the metal of the silver star and others to name a few. I have a lot of training since boot camp and in hand to hand fighting. I could crush you without even thinking from my army training.

  • @ErikaCn100 You were a 'Marine Core Army Ranger' ?

No such thing. There is only 'Army Rangers' which has nothing to do with the Marines.

Also, it is just called the 'Silver Star' not 'Medal of the Silver Star'

A real war vet would not make these kind of mistakes.

If your going to lie, at least do some RESEARCH before you make yourself look like a total idiot.

  • @ErikaCn100 what ever fag. stop lying about your life

  • @ErikaCn100 these games are 25 years old ,and to that time they where sooooo hot! believe it or not!

  • @ErikaCn100 you are obviously stupid, these games are sooooo old...

  • @ErikaCn100 rofl CoD4 is shit

  • @ErikaCn100 No. I guess, in those days, game development "teams" consisted of one guy: the programmer. He did all the grafics, sound, effects, programming etc. usually just by typing a code. The programmers are maybe genius, but they're not by all means good artists.

  • Can't believe I played all of them! thanks for this!

  • nice music :d

  • OMG my dad could barely afford to buy me one of these

  • You're missing a lot of great games... Tail of the Beta Lyrae, Alternate Reality, MicroLeague Baseball, Universe (huge role playing game), Cosmic Balance, Realm of Impossibility, Choplifter, Centipede, Starglider II (I don't remember if this game was Atari or Amiga), Eidolon.

My favorite game on your list was probably Blue Max. I can remember thinking how great the graphics were because I could see the propeller spinning on the plane.

  • @AntichristComes

This is Part 1 only as you can see from the caption. You should have checked Part 2 and Part 3 before posting as some of the games you are mentioning are in there. The others are not though, which is probably because I don't count them among my favorites, e.g. could not care less about baseball games no matter how great they are.

  • @AntichristComes I loved MicroLeague Baseball and Blue Max. My favorite of all time was probably M.U.L.E and AutoDuel.

  • @0:39 i love that game , i still play it , neva gets boring

  • Man the 80's were about two things... partying and KARATE! ahahah

  • Damn, I never had an Atari 8-Bit, just an ST - looks like I missed out while messing around on the Spectrum, it looks better than the C64!

  • @stunthumb Naw, C64 was better, but in terms of graphics, ST is better than C64. Also, it does boil down to personal preference, ya know? Personally, I love pretty much all the late 70's thru late late 80's 8-bit (& some 16-bit) consoles/PC's. I have them all/& all the ROMs/games for them, via emulators. Now, I am just looking for people to play assorted 2 player co-op/simultaneous play games, online (Kaillera Client) with. Are you into emulators/retro gaming @ all?

  • @gjc82071 Yeah, I am a big fan of retro gaming, especially the Spectrum, C64, and ST. My favorite 8-bit computer was the Einstein though, similar to the CPC but with a great keyboard and disc drive; was great for programming on. These days I tend to play a lot of MAME roms, in the progress of building a MAME cabinet.

I think I'm a little surprised tho at the games shown in the video - I wrongly assumed the 8-bit Atari computers only had 2600 style games.

  • @stunthumb I LOVE MAME. I've been using it since like version 0.27 back in 1997. Hey, do you think you might want to do some online retro gaming sometime? MAMEppk has Kaillera Client support. Have you ever done the online MAME thing? It's fairly simple. You just need identical emulator/ROM versions. It's really fun, especially for team play, co-op & versus, fighting/shoot/beat'em up type games. (Metal Slug, Final Fight, Gauntlet, Street Fighter, etc). Let me know if you're interested.

  • whats the name of the game in 0:37 , dose anybody knows?

  • What is the first song?

  • what is that music?

  • splendid collection, great compilation. Always like the look of the original Atari 800 in the shops at the time, it looked like a big serious computer! 800xl looked sleek and modern when it came out too!

  • great vids! are these recordings off a real Atari or via an emulator? you should caption the video itself so that we wouldn't have to look at the bottom text. otherwise, great job!

  • the music is fucking awesome

  • The music is absolutely brilliant. Love the game selection as well. This takes me back. Thanks mate!!!

  • Wow! I love really like this video! plus the music is an 8 bit masterpiece

  • @AndCool1111: the game theme to Panther is good.. but.... it has NO SID CHIP !!!!!

  • R.I.V.E.R whoo!

  • What is the name of game 3:55 ??? ... PLEASE !!!

  • @freelord123 The entire list is in the description (with timeline). Its Satan's Hollow.

  • what's the music?

  • oooooooooooooooooooh

  • i still have my atari and nintindo and sega .....

now i add dream cast ...sega satron .....ps2 ....ps2..xbox..ps3 ....xbox360 ...wii ....and gamecube .....dame i have all them but some times i play the old mario on the old nintindo omg i remeber my childhood my dad bought it the nintindo in 1990 and the sega in 1992..thene i start buy them one by one

  • the second piece of music, what game is it from?I am sure I had the game but it was 26 years ago now

  • What the music is 1:40 ? :DD

  • whats the game at 4:09 i cant remember that was awesome

  • Agree on all of this games !

  • the music starts from about 1:37 is pretty nifty.. what's it from?

  • @dannyofthededd Jet set willy, the Atari 8 Bit version ;)

  • @janmansde3dede cheers fer that :)

  • I remember a game in top-down view where you had to punch on the nose of the opponent. Anyone who knows the title of that game ?

It was (also) part of a pack with hundreds of other games...

  • @Keybern Describe it in a little more detail. It's not Atari 2600 Boxing is it? Or Punch-out? Do you know the console?

  • I love games from the 70s 80s and 90s. I think they're better. Like the Cruis'n games racing (USA World Exotica etc.) And the Sonic the Hedgehog games had great music. I like Donkey Kong and Pac man.

  • @samsonite8881 Me too, BIG time! I love the MAME emulator, & Commodore 64, Atari 2600/5200, Nintendo, etc. I am a retro gamers, emulator/ROM collector, & I used to collect real vintage consoles. I am always looking for other retro gamers interested in playing these games online. Unfortunately I haven't had the success I hoped for/assumed I'd have, getting people to play. Granted that playing alone is fun, but playing with/against a human player is fun too. Think you'd be @ all interested?

  • Rescue on Fractalus looked amazing! I didn't think the Atari 400/800 was capable of something like that.

  • I think I was like two when I first played pit fall didn't know what the hell I was sopose to do at first but I figured it out on my own eventually : ) !!! Hard core gamer for life, go nerdcore....

  • I still enjoy dragging out my old Atari 400 and playing on it to this day.

  • Third and final video of the Atari 8-bit tribute trilogy is now live ! Check it out through my channel

  • impressive collection, but I was waiting fo the coolest - zorro, mousetrap, feud, spy vs spy - or I was too stoned and missed them...

  • OH CMON how do you NOT have asteroids it was Atari's calling card LOL

  • Where did you get the music for this?!

  • legendary music XD

  • i like old games

    nintendo8 com

    legendary music XD

  • I loved the "fighting chess".

  • personally if the game has good music, i like it.

  • i played em all. frogger is from 1981. 30 fucking years.

  • Isn't Montezuma's Revenge another name for diarrhea?

  • awesome vid! but can you put up some captions? I don't know some of these games.

  • 5:00 my fave :D

  • So, the atari 8-bit version of Donkey Kong Jr was programmed by actual donkeys?

  • I see master blaster is in there, anyone ever finished that and what was the last level like?

  • ah man, just the sound and images take me back to retro movies 80s pop and arcade pizza...life was good not as fucked up as today

  • nice review but where's Draconus?

  • @SouthernSky

Third and final volume of this compilation is coming soon - its in there, stay tuned !

  • this sure brings back fun memories :) thanks for posting.

  • :) MISSILE COMMAND?

  • I grew on this games. I remember almost all of those games. Atari keyboard with external cassette player :), games were kept on cassette as I remember. Now my cheapest calculator can do more than Atari :)

  • what are the names of the games at 4:06 and 4:10???

  • anyone remember the game where we were a diver and we had to get through same kind of maze underwater and there was shark, whale and some fish i forgot :D ????

  • muchas gracias.

    En verdad te lo agradezco.

    thank you very much.

    I really appreciate it.

  • Oh my fucking God, look at the game SWAT! Reminds you of something? YES, GTA! Damn, it almost looks like the first and second GTA games were inspired by SWAT for the Atari 800!

  • Thank you very much for uploading these wonderful Atari-Games. Its only a little sad that you don't use the original sound of the games. But anyway, its very nice!

  • @Leris

What do you think this is - PS3 or Blu-Ray ?

Most Atari games ran in 160x192 resolution so even 480p is an overkill ?

  • @subj1 I suspect his comment was a joke, I laughed.

  • @Leris lol on your comment has too many thumbs down xD

  • hello well, somebody do should me how is the game of the second 036 please?

    Sorry by MY bad english.

  • @zelink007 It's River Raid. It was a great game!

  • @zelink007 It's River Raid. It was a great game!

  • @zelink007 I think it is Galaga.

  • they just don,t make platform games that hard now

  • 3:36 need help with the name of that game. I came here looking for it lol found it. Just don't know what it is.

  • @GRIMxREAFER That was Gyruss... very fast and adictive.

  • @n142857 FREAKING THANK YOU, a while back I was like wtf I guess they gone just leave me haggin. I guess there are still good people in this world HA

  • Castlevania is my favorite (=

  • where's Yoomp? or Crownland, or Bomb Jack? So many missing titles. Plus the original A8 version of Jet Set Willy was terrible. The 2007 version is much better, but still hardly a classic

  • @gamein60seconds

So what is preventing you from making a video of the games YOU like ? This video is a reflection of my nostalgic memories which do not include the said games, especially considering Yoomp only came out 3-4 years ago.

  • @subj1 I guess you are right, but then I don't look back with so much nostalgia. I have been playing all this stuff since 1981. I do own so many coonsoles, but the A8 i keep coming back to. Only bought a dingoo when I found out I could put an emulator on to play Eidolon lol :)

  • where's Yoomp? or Crownland, or Bomb Jack? So many missing titles.

  • There needs to be an 8-Bit radiostation.

  • love the 8-bit retro music that takes me bk i feel 6 yrs old again.

  • Pffffschhhh.... now I understand what inspired blizzard for Diablo 3.

  • i played these games with my cousin 10 years ago

  • Helpful video. Good job. Thanks!

  • WOW what a truly awesome video - to put 60 small snippets of each game on here, just enough for people to recognise is great, but to list all the names to correspond with the time is brilliant. I started searching the net for all the atari games i used to have on the 800 xl, i knew the names to some but i must have said "God yeah i forgot that!" a few dozen times watching this! Oh the memories! Great upload....
