Oooh, this version omits the "broken all your windows, and ran through all your doors" in the 2nd bridge. Better version on their "Greatest Hits". Plus, there's a bitchin' guitar solo in place of the short keyboard solo.
Phenomenal! Awesome cover by Manfred with some extra sparkle assistance by Trevor Rabin on guitars (along with Manfred bandmates Mick Rogers, Steve Waller, Robbie McIntosh, & Geoff Whitehorn)..One can never have too many guitarists, especially when they're all so talented! From the 1980 band, "Chance"!
I've got to agree with those who say Bruce doesn't have a great voice. After all, he embarrassed himself on the We Are the World which required pure gospel voices. He even made Dylan sound good, but he is great at what he does when he does his high energy vocals, but he just isn't gifted at the "subdued" emotional vocals. Mann does a great cover
This is slightly different ( I like it!) than the version I have on vinyl. The keyboardsolo is different and I LOVE the background vocal on this "I Came For You!!"PS Manfred gets Springsteen songs and Dylan songs and makes them Manfred Songs!
Thank you for uploading this great song! I am wondering, though, this version seems a bit more "tame" than the radio version. The radio version that I recall does not have the pipes in the solo, and the drums seem different. For example, it seems like the china is missing. Also, some of the back-up vocals seem different.
finally a version by someone who can sing as opposes to springsteen raspy screech! he should stick to writing and leave the singing to others, much like bacharach [pardon the spelling].
If you ever heard the Springsteen version you sure wouldn't say it was the best song ever. Manfred Mann turned it into yes, a great, great song. Springsteen when going on MTV's unplugged could not even put his rock songs to acoustic.

These lines are missing in this version -
'Cause they're waiting for you at Bellevue
With their oxygen masks
But I could give it all to you now
If only you could ask
Don't call for your surgeon
Even he says it's late
It's not your lungs this time
But your heart holds your fate

I agree Bruce is overrated and advertised into "saying" he's great . He's not .

this reminds me of Oklahoma City - I believe it came out in 1981, the radio stations there played the heck out of this album (Chance).
