  • Awesome John, very talented and inspiring! Nice to have met you at the NAMM shoe,

    Best to you,

    Jeannie

  • Totaly sick.. imagine if he would use a Demon Drive pedal or Axis, it would just spray the bassdrum with multiple strokes!

  • @skinkpaj I'd like to see and hear that. :)

  • Nice, real nice, damn effn nice,,

  • why so serious?

  • that snare made me cum.

  • Nice shoes

  • Ive been playing around with this stuff for a few months now, just starting to get into the 16th note triplets. I used to use double bass but i figure if i can do all my double bass grooves with one foot then i can focus my left on hi hat command. Its all really tough, im suprised i've gotten where i am, this guy is well past that though, he has much more control over it that i. DW 5000s!!! baby, they the best

  • royster has a challenge

  • Most guys dont`t play stuff like that with one foot, but if you practice it you`r footwork in general will be much better. And if you are playing fast with doublepedals, both of your feet`S have yo be fast so.... And to the guys hwo think this is easy, post a video of your self playing that fast or faster....

  • Can someone tell me how to make the pedal as responsive as his? Mine aren't really that responsive. I have Sonor pedals.

I tried tightening the spring tension but not too much as I miiight just break the springs.

    thanks

  • @ransherparihar First of all, he is using a verry nice pedal, i have one of my own. Thats a huge part but not all. The way i set mine up is just tight enough to get an elongated rebound, pretty much hits my foot on the way back(so its actually pretty loose not tight). His pedal does it at 1:03. A heavy beater helps with that also. Then comes foot technique, which is pretty much the key. If you have the technique you can pretty much do it on any pedal.

  • He plays the kick like carter beauford plays the hi hats

  • god his ultra boring personality puts med to sleep...

  • @antibulletdodger101 really bro? you think a black dude who is this groovy on the drums has no personality?? or rather he talks very slow and direct in this video because he is teaching something incredibly difficult that most mere mortals can't do on the drums?

  • @zrouth Agreed. It's not stand-up time - he's explaining a technique...

  • hey there John, how about a bass drum patch by Evans!!

  • dude hes clean and better than you probably. this dude knows his shit if you were a real drummer youd realize that. strokes arent weak either. no need to wack the shit of of your instrument

  • I'm going to practice this right now

  • un mostro conta tanto anche il pedale comunque

  • 2:56.. just amazing!!!

  • @tljsm1 Amen to that dude!

  • boa éssa técnica em.....

  • Reminds me of Will Kennedy with a crazy foot. What an awsome sounding snare.

  • How can such a boring dude, can be such an explosive drummer... X:

  • always liked John's playing style.

  • is there any video where he shows about setting up the pedal? :/

  • I saw him some years ago in a NAMM Show and the guy was very nice.

  • coñooo esta de pin.. ese negro!!1buenissima tecnica...

  • I play double bass nearly all the time, but these beats he's playing are easier to play with one foot to be fair.

  • @1991ant1991 he doesn't play that clean....also, the strolkes sound weak...a double pedal would be much clearer and more defined.

  • @metalmike83 i can agree with that! people would play that sort of thing with one kick pedal and then ill play it with a double and yes it's easier with a double, and i can do it with 1 foot.... but like you said, not as clear and defined

  • Woah man your tired.. let's take a nap first.. ~Yawn~

  • Um...John try to keep a consistant volume. This would never fly in a stduio...or full live setting. If your pounding regular figures, then throw a flurry of random 16ths in at random volumes, the effect is gone. You should get a little more down pressure so when you try to get that 3rd, 4th, or 5th hit in you can hold that volume. I mean come on...2:53...what was that? Lets be honest here. Im not a hater, I think he is a great drummer. This is just silly.

  • @fabjtown1 Very true. This isn't an easy thing to get right; if I'm honest I've never seen anyone do it completely constant.. Tony Royster's got a variation on this technique (only he rocks his foot without his heel touching the board) and whilst he's as close to perfect I've seen, he's still no where near.

  • excellent technique, excellent choice of pedal, and excellent choice of footwear.

especially the footwear. john is one classy gentleman.

  • Very unimpressed with this video. In the examples his playing is sloppy and his time is all over the place. He also apparently does not know what humming is. He makes a few clear mistakes and reacts to them. Why not do another take? Maybe he did many takes and messed them all up.

  • @commentsarefun Why not pick another comment? Since yours is stupid. Please, just watch and freakin' learn, so what if his timing is out of place. You still know what to fuckin' do, play the drums.

  • @iFuturiztic Watch and learn what? How to play out of time with sloppy unnecessary bass drum technique? No Thanks.

  • @commentsarefun Nothing he plays is out of time. Are you one of those drummers that all drummer jokes are based on? Q: How do you know commentsarefun is at your door? A: His knock keeps speeding up.

Note: drummer in this video can play better with one foot pedal than commentsarefun can play with a double pedal.

  • @commentsarefun come back after watching a solo or something.

  • @Meatlooaf I didnt say anything about Johns playing on the whole. My comment was directed towards this particular video. And I could not care less about drum solos.

  • @commentsarefun Post a vid of yourself playing his patterns and shut us all up. Until then, go back to mom's basement and keep practicing. If you are as good as this vid, why havent we heard of you? Yeah, exactly!!!

  • @makstone Am I the one trying to sell instructional DVDs? Yah that would be no. John and Hudson music are trying to sell DVDs. All I am saying is that maybe he should have done another take. Either they didn't care enough to make sure he was in time with the patterns or he can't play them. Either way that doesn't make me want to go buy this DVD. And fyi my drum kit is set up in the living of my own home.

  • @commentsarefun If you don't like the demo then don't buy the DVD. Gheez we know the vid is not perfect. Point is he's a badass drummer with more talent in one hand than you have in both of yours. We can all learn something from him whether this vid is perfect or not. Check out his other grooves and get back to us. By the way, we're still waiting on your video, Mr. Perfect Foot Technique!

  • oh man that snare is tight!

  • whats the finishing r0ll?? was crazy :D

  • @jhonliver double stroke flams or pataflafla, maybe?

  • @purphanz pata what is that?? cud u send me a clip of u or any? :D

  • @jhonliver I dunno if its got a name, but the last pattern he does is: RLRL FFRL FFRL RLFF R L played as 32nd notes......of course he plays it the other way round cuz he leads with his left hand (ie LRLRFF etc)

  • @Richirida wooooo awsome now i get it xD thx words seem easier to learn than whats in the video :D

    u r drummer too??

  • One of the baddest drummers around today, love the work he did with Prince

  • Does anyone at all notice that this cat can do quite a few things but none of them constantly well? His timing is bad, even in his videos and things he does are sloppy. Watch them. I can't believe some of the gigs he gets.

  • @timbalerotj And why can't you see the gigs he gets, I mean if Prince gave him a gig come on.

  • @timbalerotj The guy is simply talented, and highly sought after. When you learn how to play...........maybe we could converse

  • yeah........ok

  • @ecnirp319 Ok, maybe you're right. I like his style of playing. But you gotta face it...this video was pretty weak... He really failed on his time keeping (which should be his strength...). But hey, just my 2 cents.

  • @timbalerotj What are you talking about?

  • I don't like this technique.

He haven't the full control of his beat on bass drum.

  • cool but his timing is a bit scew wiff lol

  • 3:11 WTF!!!!

  • love how he plays the hi-hat and back beat all with the left hand....NOT!

  • tnx a lot for this vid

  • he looks like he's blind lol. great drummer

  • he need to work on hims humming tequinike

    he is no humming

  • snare sound so much awesome !!

  • @o0metalrecords0o the drummer plays awesome..
