  • I had an 83 Challenger and LOVED IT! By today's standards it was slow, but in it's day it was a fairly brisk runner. I'd give about anything to have another one.

  • NICE!

  • sounds cool in car

  • Why is it that you rarely see any of the Mitsubishi built Dodge Challenger's/Plymouth Saporro's? I think they were one of the nicer looking cars of that time period

  • Have to love the bracket racing. You know anyone who wants to buy any vipers?

  • Thats my nephews car.The first pass he ever made was in my then new 69 GTX (still have it)That is a mild 30+440 & runs 11.30s with that engine.Dirks forte is on the tree, you better have your game when you go to line with him! Also the guy that put him in the water is Troy Wilson...his best friend for 30 some years.

  • That is too cool! I've watched Dirk go rounds for many years and always knew he could drill that tree. Thanks for checking out the video and posting!

  • @OneBadSuperbird did the other guy red light?

  • @westonator6 No, it's bracket racing. Depending on the dial-in, one car or anoiher will get a head start.

  • @OneBadSuperbird yeah ik what it is but i didnt realize it was bracket racing

  • I got one of those... stock ofcourse. But mine is a 1979 Mitsubishi Galant Lambda. The only difference is the badge. Like seriously, just the badge.

  • Yup, the Mitsu, the Dodge Challenger and the Plymouth Sapporo were all the same car.

  • Never thought I'd see THAT Dodge Challenger racing lol

  • what does he run, like a low to mid 11?

  • I believe that's about right. If Dirk is at the Pittsburgh Chrysler Classic in two weeks, I'll have to pay more attention to what the car E.T.'s at.

  • that seems like a pretty hard launch for 11s...id say high 10s at the least

  • I thought Dodge Challenger's in 1982 were a last attempt-sort-of-thing from Mitsubishi to bring it back? What kind of engine does it have?

  • I'm not real sure what Dodge was thinking with the Challenger (and Plymouth with the matching Sapporo) in the early '80's. I think the standard powerplant was a four-banger and maybe an optional six? I'm not exactly sure what engine Dirk is running in this Challenger but it is some sort of a small block Mopar. Runs pretty dang good, huh?

  • Yes sir, I Looked it up and it actually came with a 4-cylinder that's even larger then a Neon SRT4's back in the day. From what the Website said, "It was a powerful engine when lacking the other half", lol. No 6's though. I guess it was kind of like the first Mustang II's, in 1974 when they only came with 4 and 6 options :P. The one in the video sounds great :)

  • Would that have been the 2.6 liter Mitsubishi engine? I seem to remember Chrysler used that in some domestic vehicles too, particularly the early minivans. Dirk's car really does sounds nice. If I recall correctly, he won the season points in the Pro class at the Chrysler Classics either last year or the year before. It's a really well dialed-in bracket car.

  • It might be. Congrats to Dirk, awesome car :).
