Otaku is just the japanese word used to describe those who are equivilent to the English "geek" or "nerd" in a specific subject, so this could easily be refering to an Otaku of the "Video Game and Anime" variety.

@FirstSea Otakus could be like me, one who represents a major percentage of Otakus around the United States. I speak Japanese, not completely fluently, but I am learning. I am going to Japan next year. I have a Japanese pen pal. I know Anime does not truly represent Japanese life, but there are a lot of truths within the over-exaggerations of Shoujo(love/high school) Mangas and Fantasy of Shonen(Fantasy/Super-Fiction Manga). Otaku is a way of life, not a cultural stance. Its video games too

Otaku is a Japanese word. It is used in a wide variety of ways there, like you listed. Over here and in other countries, Otaku isn't part of other languages. But it is used to refer to people like me, and (judging by your username) like you. We who enjoy anime/manga. Using a Japanese word with something that has nothing to do with Japan is a little...unusual...

@princesskemo I love being an otaku. Before I found this world I was a norm. I would hang out with other people but then I saw pokemon in elementary school and promoted my way to Dragon Ball Z and then I was taken in by the manga/anime world. But there is only so far the otaku world can take you. A balance is needed even for us otaku so we don't turn in to the bad kind of otaku that break away from reality and possibly do horrible things like kill people and buy manga before paying bills.

I have really no problem at all paying my rent and buying my groceries but unlike many I enjoy my life I have built a positive quality of life that many others don't build they all go to work and be robots just to make money for things they need and don't take time for themselves I want to live but I also want to have fun and to me that means being otaku
@princesskemo In my eyes if someone can't except me for who I am then I don't need them to accept me. Lean on those who already accept you and soonier or later you'll be able to meet others. My mother accpets me even if I am different than her. I go to anime conventions and I meet plenty of people who accept me but as a warning not all are otaku. Also not every otaku or anime/manga lover gets along. So even within our own groups its like everyday life.

@princesskemo I love being an otaku. Before I found this world I was a norm. I would hang out with other people but then I saw pokemon in elementary school and promoted my way to Dragon Ball Z and then I was taken in by the manga/anime world. But there is only so far the otaku world can take you. A balance is needed even for us otaku so we don't turn in to the bad kind of otaku that break away from reality and possibly do horrible things like kill people and buy manga before paying bills.

I have really no problem at all paying my rent and buying my groceries but unlike many I enjoy my life I have built a positive quality of life that many others don't build they all go to work and be robots just to make money for things they need and don't take time for themselves I want to live but I also want to have fun and to me that means being otaku

@princesskemo In my eyes if someone can't except me for who I am then I don't need them to accept me. Lean on those who already accept you and soonier or later you'll be able to meet others. My mother accpets me even if I am different than her. I go to anime conventions and I meet plenty of people who accept me but as a warning not all are otaku. Also not every otaku or anime/manga lover gets along. So even within our own groups its like everyday life.
