  • If she was still alive, she'd put the pop divas to shame.

  • eu amo as maoires de todos os tempoa bessie smth etta james saravough e elis reigina não deixarei janis joplin.

  • If you listen carefully, Bessie sings hot time in old town which are the original lyrics. At some point in time, "the" has been added to old town. I must admit it's hard to catch the difference.

  • Like the totally most awesome cover of this song was by Leon Redbone. He's like the most totally awesome.

  • Widershins: She might have been a lot of things that a lot of so called up standing people would frown on, but that just made her more beautiful and talented, yes what a wonderful woman.

  • inmortal

  • who ever said she was ugly, is seeing themselves only. Bessy Smith had it all, Beauty, Brains, Confidence which is Beautiful within itself. And Brass,

she was not American standard of pretty. But she damned sure was not ugly!

  • @sharonanony I agree with you all the way. Bessie Smith was Majestic in everything she did. A powerful beautiful lady, tough living,Great voice, to me the best blues singer of all time. This track is a real swinger,I would compare this to another of my all time greats Billie Holiday singing ,My mothers son in law.

  • Lol, Jack Nicholson Joker

  • Phenomenal

  • Enjoyable if somewhat truncated.. .

  • Check out the Google News Archives; a bunch of old Afro-Americans from the era have been posted! The advertisement for this single by Columbia states, "People come from mile around to hear Bessie Smith and Her Blue Boys every time they hit town. Be sure to get their latest record, for Bessie certainly does put lots of fire into this selection".

you'd have to be about 80 or 90 and i doubt you are.

and i would like to ask you.. what's your daddy's name, and how old is he now? 156?

  • she's my dad's sister. He was born in 1919. His father (my grand-father) is Bessie's dad. My grand-father was born in the early 1800s, and before he met my grand-mother he already had children, and one of them was Bessie Smith. He was 27 yrs older than my grand-mother.
